Very stimulating ideas--but JPM is reinventing the wheel in many ways. Could learn something from those Campus Crusaders who are now Eastern Orthodox. No need to see big break at 5th century.
The bible was put together from many different people, it was hand chosen and reviewed what we would put in or not. Therefore, we are forced to believe what others have chosen for us to believe.
Deny God and one lacks the necessary a priori conditions for the universals and immutables of the Laws of Logic, the universal and immutable God supplies such; the laws of logic are necessary and certain, thus so is God.
@Goddoesexist I agree that God is a necessary being. But if the laws of logic are necessary truths, then they would obtain whether or not theism is true. There are many examples of necessary propositions; why couldn't the logical rules of inference be among them? Furthermore, even if they are not necessary independent of God, why think that God is the only possible grounds for their being universal? Platonism, for instance, would accommodate them as well.
I love the book. It's not as dense as Scaling the Secular City, but parts (especially the chapter on naturalism) take some real effort. I'd encourage people to read the last part first; it's wonderfully encouraging and not hard to read. Shalom!
Yes, it is very good. It is not as deep as Scaling the Secular City but it is also a different type of book- more of a cultural analysis & prescpition whereas StSC was a layout of specific arguments in favor of Christianity.
Treat the bible as a source of knowledge and you're forced to believe disease is caused by demons. How do you reconcile that one, Moreland?
