Conclusions: Previous Petzl statements required special training for this specific use of the Petzl Shunt. The lack of any described methods or special training therefore makes these previous Petzl statements obsolete. As a measure of precaution, Petzl recommends to NOT use the Petzl Shunt, while towed by a cord, as a back-up device in rope access.
This statement supersedes all previous statements and communications relating to this particular use of the Petzl Shunt. Welcom to the 2012 !
Petzl have issued guidance on the use of shunts by industrial users via international distribution agents. The 2011 work catalogue has both Figure of 8, and Rack Descenders. Also Sprint carabineer (EN 12275 mountaineering connectors – not EN 361). Rescucender, Macrocender, Macrograb, Micrograb, Macrocender, tibloc & Basic Ascender – all EN 567 Rope clamps for mountaineering.
A standard does not restrict use. Users of all safety equipment in the work place should evaluate the requirements and be competent in the equipment they use.
Yes they cost but when the sh!t hits the fan... come on guys
The test is under the best cercumstances. If you cant see what im talking about, then you shouldn't doubt what the professionals are telling you. Petzl have said it for a reason. Im not saying shunts dont work,if used correctly 3/4 of the time they will, but it's time to Evolve
