The often unsung hero of Old Trafford. People seem to glance over him or forget him entirely when talking about the Knights of Number 7. Such a shame really for Robbo was Captain Marvel and a true knight of the Sept. A true red!
Robbo was true class - a never give up, give everything attitude & leadership helped inspire & mould the more modern day utd. Neville giggs becks all looked up to him & even now speak so highly about him. Fergie's clearly the main man but don't underestimate Robbo's role influence - pure class & genius. Wish he was still playing now - his style of get stuck in play is what we need - ps he could pick a pass too! And what a tackler.....
He got a poor boro side champions in his first year and got them to two cup finals in one year. Also against all odds kept w.b.a in premier league. A very underrated manager. What a side boro were back then.
For me Bryan was the best ALL round player of all time!! Midfield power house.. Would defend with his life and score important goals!! True legend!! Get well soon Bryan!! Pete
Robson was a good player, but he represented all that was wrong about English football. They worshipped his graft and the fact he got stuck in. Players like Rodney Marsh, Hoddle, Le Tissier were criminally overlooked so that they could play hardworking midfielders. Brazil had Zico, France Platini, Argentina, Maradona, etc. Managers in the late 70's, 80s should have had players like Robson backing up the truly gifted players like Hoddle.
robbo was like roy keane, steven gerrard, gattuso, even brazil had dunga.you always need a midfield general! letissier was the best and over looked coz venebles and hoddle tried sign him and failed
I support Spurs and we have need a Robson type player for years. I just think that players like Hoddle and Barnes were not used enough whilst England focussed on players like Bryan Robson and players that were similar to him. Interesting point about Le Tissier, he did do a deal to come to Spurs but backed out, maybe Venables never forgave him.
im a saints fan and apparently he signed the spurs contract then ripped it up.i used to argue with spurs fan at school about same point between hoddle and robbo.i said back then why they both not play
You probably have a point mate to be fair. Its a real shame, LeTissier was a god to many of us who wasn't Saints either. I still watch his goals to cheer myself up sometimes. Its criminal that he didn't get more games for his country, he had a gift that only a few English footballers had.
hoddle said to matt in dressing room before england b game just before wc98"go play yourself into the squad". matt scored great hattrick with both feet.lol
Exactly, Don Logan, it works best when u use the likes of Captain Marvel & Hoddle TOGETHER as a midefield PAIRING. W/o the likes of Robbo/Roy Keane in your midfield the back four are too exposed, IMO. Besides, Robson had VERY under-rated field vision, was a solid passer. and could find the back of the net; as his goals for England, 'Boro, & United showed.
Maybe his only weakness was picking up injuries in WC Finals? ;D Like I posted on another thread; I don't get supposed football "experts" who go on about how much better that England played as a team after Robbo was injured in the WC'86&'90 Finals. History might've been a little different if England would've had Robbo on hand to mark Matthaus in the '90 semis against W. Ger., IMHO.
he was unlucky he dislocated shoulder a few months before 86 finals and was rushed back.he got injured coz he went in hard so often.football in prem was warfare in them days
Life of BRYAN...just a pity a Robbo rip-off (made in west germany) lifted the World Cup in 1990, when we might have had Captain Marvel up there! Just kidding..I know, Matthaus could pass a bit and score too lol.
the real reason i became a red devil, captain marvel, sir alex's choice as complete player, that no.2 goal against those reds - marvelous, respect !!!

Bryan "relegation" Robson was indeed a terrible coach. But he was a super midfielder.

What i want to know though is who was the best between Scholes and Robson
