  • I heard that your hand placement before shooting a basketball is that you should make a "T" with your thumbs. is that true?

  • @aznzero983 Well, this has been around for decades and it works to help you keep the Assist Hand on the side of the ball instead of around front of the ball. Use whatever works for you.

  • these videos helped me sooo much , u dont want to imagine how ugly my shooting style was before , my shooting arc was really flat and i use to squeeze the ball with my assist hand , well my playing style is attacking the basket , im really fast so yeah but i wanted to improve my shooting skills so i watched all these videos and they helped out alot , sometimes i feel i cant get a grip at the basketball and i just end up doing a ugly release , does that mean i need more practicing or what ?

  • @SiiCkNeSsPS3

.You can never practice your shooting enough. PRACTICE, PRACTICE and then PRACTICE some more.

  • hey coach so before seeing these videos i used to be a great shooter till i stop practing for a while then getting back in the gym after a few weeks i tried the same stroke and kept missing so would you have any tips on where should start cause my shooting mechanics are out of control plus now that my coach wants me to hit the wheights

  • @bigman52100 Bigman, go to our shooting videos an our YT channel and use these to re-build your shot. It will take a few weeks to get it done, but it will work for you. The weight should not really have any effect on your shot, but we recommend that you do a lot of stretching.

  • okay and what kind of stretches should i do before a game? and also, in games i also tend to not catch the ball very well. should i make my hands wide or should i make them narrow?

  • @aznzero983 We recommend that you check out our Vertical Jump videos for the stretching that we feel is important for you. Our players use these every day before practice and games. as far as the hands you probably need to learn to recoil your hands on the catch to soften the ball. This can be learned by spending a lot of time catching the ball.

  • How about Jimmer Fredette unlimited range. His a thumber.

  • @iReFlexGamingTM He does get his thumb into the shot more than is desirable, but it is released early enough to no screw up his stroke!

  • thank you, my shot got so much better and when i shoot, should my thumb come off first on the assist hand?

  • @aznzero983 Just get the entire hand off the ball early and it will not interfere with your stroke.

  • i have been messing with my shot and i see players like jimmer fredette use their left thumb... i tried to not use my left thumb but whenever i shot threes i pushed and turned my body.is it that bad to use my left thumb?

  • @jimmerbasketball It is NOT GOOD to use any of the fingers of the Assist Hand in your shot. It usually causes the ball to have side-ways rotation and your accuracy becomes very poor. You can see his thumb on the ball, but it is not finishing to affect the rotation as his rotation is true backward rotation.

  • when you place your assist hand on the side is it suppose to palm it fully or leave space so that only the tips of the finger are in contact

  • @unaisibra221 The contact would be best if it were with your finger pads.

  • hey coach when i am shooting basketball i don't get a perfect backspin due to which my shot goes very often to the basket. what should i do coach?

  • @has494 the backspin on your shot is a learned element of your shot. PRACTICE, PRACTICE and then some more PRACTICE! No other answer here!

  • Sometimes when i shoot, my thumb on my assist hand touches the ball when i shoot and creates the ball to spin on its side. how do i fix this?

  • when im getting ready to shoot the ball, should my wrist be cocked or should my wrist be relaxed and loose?

  • @aznzero983 Cock the wrist as you are getting ready to shoot the ball.

  • @ShotScience Should the assist hand stay stationary? Sometimes when I shoot the assist hand will either extend out farther than shooting hand or it will extend the same distance as the shooting hand. Is this ok? PLEASE HELP!!!

  • @JTown2123 Try to learn to release the Assist Hand early as it can become a problem with rotation and accuracy. It is only to stabilize the ball until you are ready to shoot it. It has no other role in the shot. Release it early!

  • my assist hand's thumb always ends up pushing the basketball how come this happens

  • @nlelegend1 Because you allow it to happen. You need to get started trying to eliminate this or your shot will be weak. Come on let's fix it starting tomorrow.

  • @ShotScience but when i try to do that the ball always goes to the left

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH, I ALWAYS TAKE THE ASSIST HAND WITH THE SHOOTING HAND! :D

  • @LetTheHorseBeWithYou Glad we could help out!

  • should the ball be at the set point before we jump or bring it to the set point while going up?

  • @m3v2p Adjust the ball as you are elevating and get ready to shoot it!

  • my "assist hand" keeps going flat (palm faces down) every time I shoot instead of facing sideways.. Any tips or tricks to fix it?

  • @SuperJuggler123 As long as it does not interfere with your shot finish the hand can be facing down. Not a real problem.

  • hey coach i am a pretty good mid range and free throw shooter but while shooting threes i tend to throw the ball rather than shooting it

i cannot get the arc which i get on my free throws and mid range jumpers

    what should i do?

  • @cjslipknot1234 We recommend that you watch our video "MAKE 3 POINTERS!!! Get Your Legs Into It!! the problem with shooting from farther away from the basket is that we fail to use the most powerful and largest muscles in our bodies. When you begin to use more of your arms instead of your legs your shot almost always goes haywire. Take a look.

  • But when i have my shooting hand in position then when i put my assist hand up and shoot i feel like im shooting with 2 hands?

  • @leautinent29 As you begin the stroke, your Assist hand can fall away. It does not need to continue on with the shooting hand stroke.

  • Thanks guys I'm really thankful but I have to questions when I got the ball over my head when should I release? Second question is very little but sometimes it happens the ball falls short or hits the front of the rim Ny tips and I'm really good at shooting now always beat my friends haha

  • @rayallenrocks28 you want to release the ball at the end of your arm thrust and use a nice relaxed flop finish. If you are short on the longer shots you need to learn to get your legs into the shot. Check out our video"Make 3 Pointers!! Get your legs into it!

  • @rayallenrocks28 oh stefan always trying to learn good effort bro seriously and its true stefan rocks at shooting

  • @twolittleboys18 He certainly does.

  • What if the assist hand is under the ball? Like not in front but lower than the side of the ball?

  • @onemogain23 The side of the ball is best!

  • Coach can you please tell me how far my ASSIST HAND should go up when I'am shooting?I seem to be bringing my ASSIST HAND as far as my shooting hand.Is that wrong?

  • @MyGilmo You can and should release the Assist hand as you begin your stroke. It often causes the shot to be off target when the hand continues too far. The thumb of that hand often cause the ball to have sideways spin.

  • @ShotScience Thank you fir the advice!!!!!!!!!

Your videos are very helpful and it is nice to see you guys reply to peoples question, it's nice to know you guys care.

  • @MyGilmo Well, you are very welcome and we look forward to your questions and everyone else as well. We are glad you find our videos useful.

  • when i go up to shot the ball slides out my hand so i try to grip with both.my coach says grip hard with your shooting hand is that right

  • @QB2010MAINE Our guess is that you do not have your fingers spread on the ball (off your palm) where you can grip the ball. It sounds like your coach is giving you good advice. "Spread them fingers and grip!"

  • @ShotScience does it matter where my assist hand is pointing? like is it okay if my guide hand is "waving" to the rim? like my palm is parallel to the goal? let me know!!!

  • @JTown2123 First of all. We feel the so called guide hand is a real detriment to your shot in many cases. We call this the "ASSIST HAND" as it should help the shooting hand to control the ball and then get outta there. The Assist Hand should have a very light touch and make sure that the thumb does not get involved at the release of the shot. If so, it will screw up your accuracy. After releasing the ball with that hand it can go wherever you want to place it.

  • When I shoot i tend to also push with my left hand(assit hand) nd its hard for me to change that what should i do?

  • @NickG1M You gota change it!!!! Until you do, you will have that Assist Hand screwing up your accuracy. It is just a matter of working on this and we recommend our Form Shooting Drill to work out these kinds of problems.

  • coach my assist hand thumb keeps screwing my shot up any tips??

  • @lel3ron One thing that can help is to softly pinch the thumb to your first inger until is becomes a habit. Using the "Form Shooting Drill" will help as well. Just work on shooting the shot over and over and being very conscious of what the thumb is doing and correct it there. It also helps out your stroke as you work on this too.

  • i don't use my thumb for nothing and im good at shooting, dribbling etc. Should i use my thumb

  • @m3v2p Not your Assist hand thumb! It screws up the shot.

  • hey shot science how to dribble behind the back?

  • @TheNabeelkhan101 Check out our "Flat Back Dribble Attack."

  • what about Kobe's two handed shot? and these videos are great

  • @ibanezesaresick13 Kobe does not shoot the ball with two hands. He use the Assist Hand to get the ball to the Set Point where is going to release it, then it becomes a one handed shot. Thanks for your very nice comment, We appreciate it very much.

  • to master this

    1. be black

    2. practice

  • @TheNabeelkhan101 Color has nothing to do with this skill! Now practice, Yes, Yes, Yes!!!!!

  • @TheNabeelkhan101 So Larry Bird is a black man ?

  • @iLoveHer304 Come on now!

  • @ShotScience Lol .

I have great respect for Larry . Actually he's my one of my inspirations and I always use team larry when I'm playin' NBA :)

  • @iLoveHer304 We really appreciate Bird also. He was an inspiration for so many players of all colors.

  • i have a problem, when i just touch the ball by assist hand (not squeeze) like you said in this video, ball falls down from my hand and i have very poor control on basketball. mayby it's becouse i have small hands an i cannot catch the ball by one hand. so how can you help me in my situation?

  • @Mihau0794 Go ahead and use a tighter touch with the Assist Hand be lossen it upp as you begin your shot.

  • do i grip the ball with my shooting hand or let the ball just sit on my fingers? thanks

  • @HussAA23BBall This is a very good question. It is best to have a grip on the ball even though it should be a light grip. The grip occurs between the thumb and the little finger and it does gives us a lot better control of where the ball is going.

  • Thank you coach! This works really great for me ^^

  • @bulletproofboy10 We are so glad to hear that you have found our videos useful. Please stay tuned and "Spread the Word!"

  • shot sciene i grip the ball with my assist hand the way it says in this video but my shot comes out ugly my assist hand gets involed in the shot anyway u cud help me not qet it in shot?

  • @dtray06 Get that Assist Hand off the ball early so it cannot foul up the shot. When it helps on the finish it really screws up your shot. This video is the best help you can find on this topic. Review it over and over again to get the information.

  • very thx

  • @TheMikeros You are very welcome.

  • And how do i get the Ball up to Eye-Level when i must "hold" the ball with the fingertips ?

  • @SpeedyX51 Well Speedy, we recommend that you spend time watching our shooting videos to learn how to get into your shot. We cover any and all questions you may have. After you have reviewed them get back to us with your questions.

  • Coach, i have a question ! Why does Michael Jordan grip the Ball with the Assist Hand when shooting?

  • @SpeedyX51 He grips it just like we describe and show you in our videos.

  • hi coach, when i try do the assist hand thingo, i can never make the distance.and falls short.. even from the free throw line..thus i always resort to basically using the assist hand to throw the ball aswell, . i am not that strong of a person, but am an adult player. what can i do?

  • @kyoshokev First, STOP THINKING THAT THE ASSIST HAND IS THE WAY TO GAIN POWER! Your legs and all those large muscles hold the power to get the ball where you want to go. Please check out our video "Get Your Legs Into It." This explains how and why the legs are essential for the power to reach the basket.

  • Hey Coach, i put my hands in the right positions as demonstrated. I keep the ball balanced on my fingers throughout the whole shot, except when i release i do it with the middle finger and the ring finger instead of the index finger. is this bad?

  • @abr1322 We tend to have our best control of the ball when it comes off our first and second fingers. Imagine throwing a baseball. Do you release it off the last three fingers? No, Why? Because those fingers give us the less control of where the ball needs to go. Hope this helps.

  • hey coach my shooting form is better but should i still in focus in how to shoot it in anyway coach i practice lately today i think there's much better than shooting in a light touch i think maybe ill focus on it

  • @tontonitik We highly recommend that you work on your shot mechanics every day using the Form Shooting Drill. Accompany this with some forms of "Game Speed" Shooting as well.

  • but i tried lately something's strange i can shoot the ball so easly ,but the accuracy's very hard to shoot it straight i tried nothing improve give me some advice

  • @tontonitik We recommend that you go to our "Interactive Basketball Shooting" video Series. Here you will find a number of videos that address shooting problems and offer ways to change them. Check it out.

  • if the assist hand holds tha ball the same in your shooting hand the accuracy of shooting is very difficult it happens if someone tries to force jump shoot even someone guard them

  • @tontonitik Your Assist Hand does not hold the ball the same as your shooting hand. It is on the side of the ball and has a very light touch so that it doesn't affect your shot.

  • Thx shot science

  • @vibrantrokrfan24 You are very welcome.

  • @ShotScience Whenever I follow through my hands always touch each other. Is this okay? PLEASE HELP!

  • @kcball4321 This is okay as long as the Assist Hand does not affect the finish of the shot. Often in this kind of finish that hand causes the ball to have sideways rotation. The A.H. thumb is usually the problem. If it is causing this type of rotation you will probably need to get the A.H. off the ball at the finish.

  • @ShotScience okay thank you so much!!! and I was also wondering if my guide hand should be facing the rim when i shoot parallel to the goal and if it matters if I curve it not. Once again thank you sooo much for the help!

  • @JTown2123 We have no idea what the guide hand is! Oh, if you mean the Assist Hand, after it's release it can do what ever you want it to do. It's only purpose is to stabilize the ball prior to the shooting stroke.

  • Hey Shot Science, If my assist hand moves slightly forward instead of falling away BUT does not affect the shot's rotation and direction at all, does it matter?

  • @flyingduckzz The Assist Hand should not be a problem unless you know the hand, especially the thumb, is screwing up the rotation or the direction of your shot. If the ball has sideways rotation even once in a while, your accuracy is going to be poor.

  • @ShotScience thank you

  • @flyingduckzz You are very welcome.

  • @ShotScience I immediately let my guide hand down so my follow through is just with 1 hand. is this okay? PLEASE HELP!!!

  • @JTown2123 YES! This is o.k. The Assist Hand is nothing more than a hand to steady and control the ball prior to your release and should not be a part of your stroke. It tends to screw up your shot if the thumb is involved in your shot. If the Assit Hand thumb gets involved the ball will usually have sideways rotation and not be very accurate.

  • i have a problem with my hands, they are kinda small, i cant even hold a ball with one hand so when i release assist hand off ball during the jumshot, ball just fells down from my shooting hand and then i give a ball a wrong rotation and direction. that is frustrating me everytime when i try to shoot the ball correctly, due to your tips in videos

  • @Mihau0794 It's o.k. for the Assist hand to stay on the ball up to the release, but don'y allow it to propel the ball, because it usually screws the shot up.

  • does it really matter if i extend my assist hand with my shooting hand?

  • @theLALfan24 It doesn't matter unless the assist hand is having an effect on the ball as you shoot it. That is the usual problem with extending both hands.

  • @ShotScience im pretty good shooting even though the thumb of my guide hand gets in the way and gives it side spin, if my elbows are tight then it kinda negates the spin, but i would most definitely shoot better if it didn't, i dont know how to fix it though, when i shoot w/o it im all over the place, i can only shoot comfortably when the thumb on my guide hand helps to shoot

  • @liflyguy Well what counts here is that you know the effects of the Assist Hand on your shot. If you choose to change it will undoubltably help your shot. Changing your shot will take some time and effort where you may not be too effective for a while. In the long run your shot will get even better. Your choice, everyone is a little different and the choice to change is all in your control. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and stay in touch.

  • Hey Coach! My name is Tommy and i love your videos! great tips, tricks, and tutorials. However, i find my form great, I am consistent when i shoot but there are times where i find my assist hand gets in the way, and when i put a light touch like you recommend it is hard to bring the ball up to my set point with control. any idea why? or things i can work on to improve this? thanks!

  • @XxS0uThxP4WxX Just get to work on taking that hand out of your nice shot! It just takes time where you really focus on this problem. It may take a few weeks of work, but you can get it done. We recommend using our "Form Shooting Drill" to work out this problem

  • @ShotScience OK thanks so much! keep posting more videos :)

  • @XxS0uThxP4WxX you got it ;-)

  • its a shooting hand for Shawn Marion

  • @Cinnawarrior yeah, his shooting form is pretty scary...

  • l i am also having trouble with my assist hand. i shoot very well with one hand when doing your form shooting drill, the rotation is good and it comes off my hand perfectly. But as soon as i add my assist hand the ball seems to come off my hand differently each time and it really screws up my accuracy. It usually ends up short or to the left (i'm left handed). my form is great but i can i always tell when i release it if my assist hand gets in the way or not, any suggestions

  • @aVanEman2 Well, this is a pretty common problem for shooters. Typically it is the thumb of your assist hand that flicks the ball as you release and messes up the shot. A little tip that we use is to take the thumb of your assist hand and lightly pinch your index finger and focus on a very "Light Touch" with this hand. The assist hand is only useful to gather the ball and prepare for the shot. Anything after that is usually a problem. Try it and see how it changes your shot.

  • is the palm of my assit hand suppose to touch the ball?

  • @damond2324 We recommend that the finger pads of the Assist Hand be used, just for better feel and control. The palm may create some problems for your shot.

  • Wow, I didn't realize that my left hand was actually in the way of my shot. Gotta do more work.

  • @iAdroit It's pretty easy to fix. It may take a few days or a week of work to work it out.

  • for me, this is the hardest part of shooting... i dont understain when is the perfect point to take the assist hand off

  • @Kd4Master Just work with it until you feel that you are comfortable with your releasing the ball. Everyone is just a little different. Hang in there, you will get it. Just do not wait too long, because it affects your accuracy.

  • when is my assit hand suppose to come off?

  • @damond2324: As you are releasing the ball.

  • I feel the ball slide off my assist hand when i shoot. Is the position of my assist hand wrong or am i not taking it off the ball fast enough?

  • @theLALfan24 your assist hand should fall away as your shooting arm extends. It sounds like you're letting your assist hand have too much influence in your shot. Try shooting some form shots very close to the basket with only your shooting arm. Keep you assist hand at your side. Once you master that, add in your assist hand and make sure you're only gently contacting the ball and that it falls away as soon as you extend. Hope this helps!

  • I can shoot the ball without the assist hand perfectly but when I use it I have a problem . The moment I release the assist hand the ball on my shooting hand moves a bit off my fingers and my shot goes strange ...

  • @DaredeviIGR: One problem you may want to look at it; "Is the ball elevated off your palm?" You get this by spreading your thumb out and this creates a small space between your palm and the ball. This also allows for you to GRIP THE BALL FOR YOUR SHOT. This gripping will allow for your shooting hand to have more control over the ball.

  • @ShotScience As far as I can see there is no contact with the palm of my hand ... There must be a problem with my finger position though , as the way I touch the ball is pretty uncomfortable . I found one of your videos addressing this matter (finger position) and it was quite helpful as I did not have an 90degree thumb to index finger angle but a much smaller one . I will try this out . Thanks for your help

  • @DaredeviIGR: Let us know how it goes.

  • Hey coach.............

please give some tips on how to acquire perfect amount of backspin while shooting

  • @Meganbaplayer: If you go to our YT channel you will find a video on this very important element of your shot. We refer to this as the "FLOP FINISH." We do not feel that having a snapping follow through is good because it tends to make the ball spin fast capturing a lot of energy in the rotation of the ball. When it runs into the rim that energy is released and cause long rebounds. A slower rotation means less energy and therefore the ball tends to stay around the basket. "FLOP FINISH."

  • @ShotScience so, what is right, spinning fast or slow

  • @Meganbaplayer: We totally believe in the slower rotation because the ball is less active on the rim and this may allow for the ball to go in. We refer to this finish as the "Flop."

  • @ShotScience: will it cost me anything to send a video of my shooting in?

  • @23baseballer: No, it will not cost you anything. Just post it so we can evaluate it for you.

  • Hey Coach,

I have a habit of flicking my assist hand along with my shooting hand, and it gives it a bad rotation, and it usually goes off and hits the rim. Whenever I lightly put my assist hand on the side of the basketball, it goes even FURTHER off. Mostly airballs. How can I fix this?

  • @MusicStudios18: It is really impossible for us to tell you what is going on with your shot unless we can see it. What would help is for you to provide us with a video and we will try to analyze your shot for you. It will also help you to know what your shot looks like as well.

  • hey shot science i have watched all your videos and i just cant figure out why i cant make shots. basketball is my life and all i want is to be a good shooter. i go through your videos everyday and i cannot figure out whats wrong. I think about this 24/7. is there anything you guys can do to help?

  • @23baseballer: The best thing that you can do for yourself is to do a video of yourself shooting the ball and then study it closely to actually see what your are doing. Send this video to us and we will analyze it for you as well. Let's see if we can help you with your shooting.

  • were should i put the ball at the very beginning of my shot? this has been bothering me a lot please help, i put it at my waist, and when i bring it up i need my assist hand to bring it up, and it screws up my shot

  • @23baseballer: Get the ball into your set point as quickly as possible and with out dipping it downward. See our video on "Dip- Rhytmn."

  • Hey Shotscience. I'm having problems with my shooting. I watched all videos on shooting and such and none of them are working or is it just me? Okay so my problem is that when I shoot, I'm thumbing the ball. My Provincials team coach told me to keep my hand straight. When I keep it straight and shoot, the ball is off balance in my hand and it seems worse that before. How do I make sure the ball stays balanced after I let go and make my assist hand straight?

  • @TurdMountain: Well, it is almost impossible for us to help you with this problem unless we can see it. Please send us a video and we will analyze it for you. The "Thumbing" of the ball is coming from the Assist hand, is that correct? If so, that is a common problem. When you bring that hand to the ball pinch you thumb to your first finger of the Assist hand. This will keep that thumb from screwing up your shot. Please get us a video of your shooting.

  • time and how to you keep your shooting elbow and arm straight because mines always flares

  • @onemogain23: You correct any of your shooting problems with a lot of practice. We recommend our "Form Shooting Drill" as a way to focus on your problem and correct it.

  • how can i stop hitting the back of the rim all the time and i use my leg but either my shot is short or hits the back of the rim most of the

  • @onemogain23: Once again, it's all about working on the little things and making corrections. Practice on changing those elements that you feel are not working for you.

  • i'm a right hand shooter and i had a bad tendancy to let my left "assist hand" curve to the right upon shot release and it generally resulted in bricks and misses but now i know to have a soft touch on the ball no force exerted at all , thanks for the informational video

  • @killjoy5418: You are very welcome. Glad we can offer some things that will help you. The "ASSIST HAND" is a real problem for most young players. We recommend our "Form Shooting Drill" as a means of getting rid of the effects of the ASSIST HAND! It really screws up your shot accuracy.

  • whenever i try the assist hand method over the guide hand it just doesnt work because i cant gather enough power to shoot from a long range

  • @ojmayo100: Important to remember that the power source is the legs!!!

  • I have rotation on my shot but the rotation on it is very slow. Can you help me get a tighter rotation.

  • @JakeNWOSmith: If you have a very slow rotation on the ball you are right where you need to be. The faster the rotation the more live the ball is when it hits the rim. You want a ball that is soft around the basket and not one that is nothing more than a long rebound. Forget the tighter rotation!!!!! You hear this all the time from coaches; "Get more rotation on the ball." In reality, you really want less. Example, from the free throw line maybe three rotations. Check our videos.

  • i have rotation on my shot in close range but from longer rangers i have no rotation or side rotation and when i try not using my off hand the shot is usually short

  • @JakeNWOSmith: The Assist Hand can screw up true rotation by imparting side-ways rotation. Being short on your shots is usually due to not connecting your legs to the shooting stroke on set shots and late release of the ball on jumpers.

  • @ShotScience: The more i observe my shoot the more i realize that i should defenetily try to get correct form. FYI the problem with my sorm was that i used my ASSIST hand as a guide hand, i used my thumb to generate power, but my elbow always slightly stuck-out wich helped me have some shots go down. I video taped my shot from many different angles wich is how i realized that my thumb messed up the direction and rotation of the ball. Also is it okay if my set point is high? Agian thank u so much.

  • @ilovelucyismylife: Congrats! You have done a nice job of discovery about your shot. Just keep working on it. We recommend the higher set point as demonstrated in our videos.

  • wow man! thanks! this amazing!i just need a little help, i am used to use the "assist hand" to be involved directly in my shot, that's why im too bad at it. when i am at midrange, i shoot with one hand and i make many shots, but when i am far (about 20 feet) i have to use both hands and i fake a lot, should i start using just one hand and the assist one fot those 3 pt shots (if i do this way, i will probably dont make it to the net), or just stop making them

  • @Kd4Master: Glad you like our videos. Check out our video "Get Your Legs Into it." This will help you understand how to shoot those longer shots.

  • @ShotScience wow, thanks!! you are amazing! thanks for answering me!

  • @Kd4Master: Not a problem, glad we could help out. Please stay tuned for more videos and "Spread the Word."

  • help! i need help in my finish with the right hand, its easy for me to do all kinds of shots with my left hand but i can barely finish a layin with the layin. itried to do every drill of my left hand to the right one but it didnt help. what should i do?

  • @haider939 It sounds like you expect immediate development of new skills. It doesn't work like that. It takes time and a ton of practice to develop new skills, especially with your weak hand. You really need to dedicate time and effort to develop skills. PRACTICE, PRACTICE and then PRACTICE some more!!!!

  • HELP! My shooting form is wrong but I still make lots of shots. Should I stick with what's working, or should I try to retrain myself using the correct form? (I am 12 years old) Thanks. Your videos have really helped me a lot. Camden

(this is my Mom's account, Lucy is not my life, basketball is)

  • @ilovelucyismylife: Hey Camden, your name is the same as one of my sons. At your age I would think about changing your form so that it will not limit you when you get into High School and beyond. You will have to make that choice for yourself. The change-over usually takes about 3-4 weeks and then you are on your way. Let us know if we can help.

  • hey coach, i have a question/problem, i need some tips on shooting off of the dribble. Whenever i shoot off of the dribble or drive in for a floater, my hands go to the sides of the ball, making me shoot an ugly and way off shot.

    thanks

  • @PostUp45: The floater is not an easy shot to make in the first place. It is a shot that takes a lot of control and touch which takes a long time to perfect. Take a look at our video on "Finishes at the Rim." These possibly can help you out.

  • This video helped me a bunch! The problem with me was I would always put my ASSIST hand on the ball to hard, and then shoot. This would cause the ball to not even go anywhere close to the hoop because it was giving the ball side spin and it would fly out of my hands going way far to one side or another and it was making me really mad because I couldn't do jack in a game and even practice!

  • @NJVbasketball: Well, we are so pleased that we could offer some help on this and then you find success. That's great. Stay tuned for more videos. BTW, sorry about the Bulldogs and the finals. We were really rooting for them to win it.

  • Hey

My set point is right above my eyes, and when I go to shoot, my non-shooting hand stays stationary, while my shooting hand elevates. In the end, my shooting hand is much higher than my off hand; however, your videos show both hands at the same height. Should I raise my set point or raise my off hand while I am shooting? Also, because my feet are staggered, my shoulders are also staggered, leaning in my shooting hand's direction. Am I suppose to be perfectly square with no leaning?

  • @revoapparel: Your Assist hand does not need to follow the other hand on your shot because it does little except screw up our shot sometimes. For older players(13+) we like to see a high set point that you see in the videos and this hand really is the shooting hand. Well, stagger the feet but don't lean toward your shooting hand side. STABILITY is a key factor in shooting, not leaning in any direction and do not set up perfectly square. See videos for the reasoning.

  • Hey coach, a couple months ago i changed my shooting form from a chest shot to a more proper shot. I'm still training up my strength to shoot farther. but today i tried my old shot and it was deadly accurate. i'm assuming it's cause i can put more spin to it and it's more centered than my other shot. which shot should i use now? the one that's more accurate, or the more proper one?
