I recently traveled the world (California - Germany) to marry my finace; however, she gave me the engagement ring back after only 3 days; & on Christmas night she called a taxi to pick me up & take me to the airport. I was supposed to spend 18 days with her (my soulmate or so I believed). I flew back to California and then decided to visit family in Florida. Every crisis is a blessing, yet we are often blinded by emotional attachments to see these blessings.
in before sunrise, when they're on the bus asking each other questions, jesse tries to reach out for selene's hair while she's not looking also, and he pulls away at the last second too.

¿Sabes?
This whole scene...wow. Powerful. I know it was towards the end of the movie, but this was the climax. Wonderfully rendered, beautifully acted. I remember when I first saw this in theaters, it was only about 15 of us dieharders, but there was not a dry eye in the house. You could hear the quiet sniffles. Beautiful, beautiful moment. I was aching for both of them in this scene, so obviously in love NINE YEARS after the fact.
@jeamim, she reaches out to him because she is moved by his confession, but she is afraid to touch him because it will re-ignite her passion for him. And, after all, he is married to someone else. So she starts to reach out for him and pulls her hand back.
@ptlump What if I told you that THIS is happening to me in REAL life. The exact same feelings as described in the movie?
What I DONT want, is to HAVE this scene in my life.. Im sure im going to meet her at some point of time in life, but I dont want this situation to happen where I want to marry her and make it perfect. I dont want to be married to someone else, just coz I dint get her and loose faith in idea of romantic love, just like he says at 1:00 .. But, can I help it!?!
@ptlump no doubt it's a great moment. and your explanation of what you feel is happening w/ celine reaching out while he's turned away is cool. but for me it's beyond analysis. i've thought about this moment as well and i wonder if it was scripted. i get the feeling it was an improvised move by Delpy. that would not confirm or deny your thought on the character's motivation. but for me it simply seems beautiful, human, and in the moment. just like the rest of the movie. god bless this film.
I've been looking for this scene on Youtube but all I could find was the part where Celine confesses how seeing Jesse again made her feel. This was the part I wanted to see. Where she reaches out to him, but pulls her hand back. This entire scene in the car c'est magnifique.
sigh. the way her voice sounds when she says .. "what dreams?"

@ptlump Why does she pull back her hand?

Almost perfect. Should have gotten Celine when she said "Why are you telling me this?"
