  • Attempted one on a 19yo ?DKA in ED just now (1am). She wasn't particularly pleased... wish it had been as smooth as your vid! We got taught perpindicular to the skin - I quite like the 45 cuz it lets you aim under ur finger.

    A great technique for deep veins in adipose people: pierce skin LATERAL to vein (ie miss on purpose), palpate over the vein, then guide the needle under your fingertip.

    Using 45 degrees is similar principle!
