hey im thinking about joining im 19 attending college. im realizing college isnt my thing and i want to do something in my life. could someone who has served give me and info on basic training like how it was like?
I've read a few comments from the past here, and maybe it's just me, but when I enlist in the Army, I am going to be ready to give my life for this country. Who gives a shit whether you're in the army or marines. they're both serving this country so I am certainly greatful.

i strongly advise not going to afghanistan. if you sign up remember that there is a very high chance of being injured in afghanistan. you are in effect signing youre life away when you fill those forms in. the injurry rates are kep classified by the mod. nobody even knows the true number. it could be thousands each month. what you see in the media is just what they use to to throw people off the scent

first off the marines are not even a branch of the military. there are three branches army air force and navy, the marines are out of the navy. as far as one or the other being better. the training is about the same with the exception of the crucible. but my personal opinion army is better because if the armys told to take a hill they plan it out than execute it, the marines just run in. so 11B all the way.

That being said, Rangers do have shit on marine corps special forces as their standards are high. The Marines have the best infantry but not the best in special operations. @TheSpartanHealth Recon doesn't do the shit that Rangers do. Their main purpose is to go out and perform reconassaince missions (figuring out where the enemy is etc.) They don't go out and clear rooms like Rangers. If the situation comes down to it though, they are more than capable of fighting. By the way, many Recon Marines go to Ranger school. I agree with you on the Army's standards for basic infantry though.

Since when have we needed to carry out an amphibious assault on Iraq and Afghanistan? Never. How many buildings and rooms have had to be cleared? A lot. And Special Forces are far above Recon and Delta, even higher. The simple fact is that they all fight for the same country so we should just leave it at that.

Because it's MUCH easier for a small group to attack and evade than an ENTIRE country's government. Osama can plot and send people to attack as he has shown through the years and evade..But should a government such as Iran's or North Korea's attack it would be different it would be all out war.

Actually man, if you want to ear a decent education you really need college.Many of the skills you learn in the Army will not really help you out here man. Also this war is questionable. After doing some research I really do not think that Bush had an honest agenda with the Iraq War, but look at what has happended, after he has whipped his hands clean of it it is our military and the Iraqis who have to suffer for it.
@USMCFUCKYEA it takes a minimum of 80 weeks to be considered army special forces so no the rangers arent the hardest in the army. they may be good but if your talking length of training they arent anywhere near army special forces in the training they get. army ranger school is a leadership course. just because you graduate doesnt make you a ranger. you have to be attached to a ranger batt. first. graduating just means your ranger qualified.

My name is SSG Duke (Army Retired) I have taken Basic Training twice! The first time was in Oct 1972 at Ft Ord, CA. Then I ETS in Oct 1975. Six months later I join the California Army National Guard part time. Then in March 1982 I got laid-off from my full time job so I decided to go back into the Army. I had to take Basic Training all over again and had to go back to the rank of E2/PVT! Took my BCT at Ft. Benning, Georgia. The second time around was much easier for I knew what to expect!
@Jmoney21408 if u talking about d day when 101 airborne dropped behidn enemy linds while rangers leading the marines up the beach.... your wrong. first, Rangers attacked point du hoc, a few miles away from the main landings i believe. and airborne did drop behind enemy liens, but there were no marines used in teh amphibious landings in normandy. all the marines were in the pacific. ordinary Soldiers conducted the landings, not marines..

HAHA You’re speaking to the choir my friend. I am a U.S. Army Iraq War Veteran who served in the Army from 02’ - 06' I deployed about 2 months after I got to my unit and was in downrange for a total of 15 months.
Yes you can see combat after you finish your BCT and AIT . My MOS was Signal ( 25Q), but when I deployed signal was about 50% of my duties. I spent ALOT of time on convoy security and guard duty as both a M16 Rifleman and the SAW M249 turret gunner. I was also a combat lifesaver.
Anyway the Army now trains all Soldiers MOUNT , CQB, convoy live fire etc. This is training that use to only be available to the SPEC OPS community, but because of the urban terrain that Iraq this training is given to all Army Soldiers.
Dont get me wrong I am not supporting a decision to join the Army. I personally think that Bush had an unhonest agenda with this "War on Terror" and that this war is wrong.

i strongly advise not going to afghanistan. if you sign up remember that there is a very high chance of being injured in afghanistan. you are in effect signing youre life away when you fill those forms in. the injurry rates are kep classified by the mod. nobody even knows the true number. it could be thousands each month. what you see in the media is just what they use to to throw people off the scent

first off the marines are not even a branch of the military. there are three branches army air force and navy, the marines are out of the navy. as far as one or the other being better. the training is about the same with the exception of the crucible. but my personal opinion army is better because if the armys told to take a hill they plan it out than execute it, the marines just run in. so 11B all the way.

That being said, Rangers do have shit on marine corps special forces as their standards are high. The Marines have the best infantry but not the best in special operations. Recon is more trained than Rangers and more mentally tough. Thats a fact. Green Berets is another thing. I hate how the Army lowers its standards for basic infantry. When they mass produce soldiers, they are not very well trained and lives get lost. Thats why i joined the Marines. Thank God.

@TheSpartanHealth Recon doesn't do the shit that Rangers do. Their main purpose is to go out and perform reconassaince missions (figuring out where the enemy is etc.) They don't go out and clear rooms like Rangers. If the situation comes down to it though, they are more than capable of fighting. By the way, many Recon Marines go to Ranger school. I agree with you on the Army's standards for basic infantry though.

Marines go to Ranger school, i know. Recon needs to go to Ranger school. Rangers are not more trained than Recon. You can talk about Green Beret and Recon though. But Rangers are under them. No bias here at all.

Since when have we needed to carry out an amphibious assault on Iraq and Afghanistan? Never. How many buildings and rooms have had to be cleared? A lot. And Special Forces are far above Recon and Delta, even higher. The simple fact is that they all fight for the same country so we should just leave it at that.

Honestly man, I am not sure if this whole war in Iraq and Afgan is defending the U.S at all. So much just does not add up. Saddam did not have MWDs. AK47 fire and RPGs cannot reach Iraq to the U.S.

Because it's MUCH easier for a small group to attack and evade than an ENTIRE country's government. Osama can plot and send people to attack as he has shown through the years and evade..But should a government such as Iran's or North Korea's attack it would be different it would be all out war.

Actually man, if you want to ear a decent education you really need college.Many of the skills you learn in the Army will not really help you out here man. Also this war is questionable. After doing some research I really do not think that Bush had an honest agenda with the Iraq War, but look at what has happended, after he has whipped his hands clean of it it is our military and the Iraqis who have to suffer for it.

@USMCFUCKYEA it takes a minimum of 80 weeks to be considered army special forces so no the rangers arent the hardest in the army. they may be good but if your talking length of training they arent anywhere near army special forces in the training they get. army ranger school is a leadership course. just because you graduate doesnt make you a ranger. you have to be attached to a ranger batt. first. graduating just means your ranger qualified.

Sniping isn't just being a crack shot, it's mostly about sittting in a pit, alone, getting cold, wet and uncomfortable, alone, shitting and pissing in a plastic bag and praying to god it won't leak inside your bergan. you wont be told to shoot unless you are on fire support duty where you will have a senior spotter with you to give you permission to fire so you don't kill civilians. Your job is to map out where everything is, not to kill.

marines are basically the brute force, nothing else...that's why they rely on the navy for resources...the army is another force...but to maintain...and they help with logistics
airforce is like overwatch...they help with intel and stuff...without eachother...each branch would suck ass...and besides...if you're not in any branch...then don't talk...its only for us to talk amongst ourselves..because you see...we are already better than civilians in every way...

marines are the tip of the spear...that's why the have to train harder...they're the first to go in, clear a base site...then army comes in and keeps the base site...marines then move on to another area and take it over...then army comes along..etc.

that isn't what happened in the middle east there were Army SF there first then rangers then marines, and WW2 was a joint attack with 101 Airborne dropped behind enemy lines while rangers leading the Marines up the beach.

My name is SSG Duke (Army Retired) I have taken Basic Training twice! The first time was in Oct 1972 at Ft Ord, CA. Then I ETS in Oct 1975. Six months later I join the California Army National Guard part time. Then in March 1982 I got laid-off from my full time job so I decided to go back into the Army. I had to take Basic Training all over again and had to go back to the rank of E2/PVT! Took my BCT at Ft. Benning, Georgia. The second time around was much easier for I knew what to expect!

@Jmoney21408 if u talking about d day when 101 airborne dropped behidn enemy linds while rangers leading the marines up the beach.... your wrong. first, Rangers attacked point du hoc, a few miles away from the main landings i believe. and airborne did drop behind enemy liens, but there were no marines used in teh amphibious landings in normandy. all the marines were in the pacific. ordinary Soldiers conducted the landings, not marines..

@haszK i know your dont have to be in combat arms to see action... im just saying that thats the whole basis of the military. they make combat arms jobs before added all those other support MOS. so its still funny to me to think when people ask a recruiter or all over youtube if there a job i can go where i dont see combat. the answer is obviously no because that why the military was made. as long as your trained as bct you can see combat... male and female both get deployed.

HAHA You’re speaking to the choir my friend. I am a U.S. Army Iraq War Veteran who served in the Army from 02’ - 06' I deployed about 2 months after I got to my unit and was in downrange for a total of 15 months.

Yes you can see combat after you finish your BCT and AIT . My MOS was Signal ( 25Q), but when I deployed signal was about 50% of my duties. I spent ALOT of time on convoy security and guard duty as both a M16 Rifleman and the SAW M249 turret gunner. I was also a combat lifesaver.

Anyway the Army now trains all Soldiers MOUNT , CQB, convoy live fire etc. This is training that use to only be available to the SPEC OPS community, but because of the urban terrain that Iraq this training is given to all Army Soldiers.
Dont get me wrong I am not supporting a decision to join the Army. I personally think that Bush had an unhonest agenda with this "War on Terror" and that this war is wrong.

DemonSoul 89 - I went to Ft Knox basic training this last summer. It was hot as hell but its all mind game. Not that bad. If you are going into the military dont worry about Basics. Just push through and you are golden! - US Army / Hooah!

Watch some US Army Ranger videos, they make the marines look like little bitches. So you miswell not even talk crap. Im in ROTC at my university for the Army and going to basic this summer cause I chose too, looking forward to it, also looking forward to getting commissioned as an officer when I graduate from MSU.

THEN YOU ARE TALKING FUCKIN SHIT OUT OF UR ASSHOLE. british marines r the best ever...most elite unit in the world. there a step down from the special forces like the SAS and SBS. and there the most elite regiments in the world. u cant top them. and 60% of royal marines end up in the special forces. so stop talkin out of ur ass. and if ur joinin the US army then ur joinin the worst army ever son!!

An officer actually said they've eliminated most of the yelling AND recruits can carry their cell phones with them and call their mom, dad, girlfriend really anyone th
