I think as an adult, one should be able to stand for himself, but kids deserve a sanctuary free of violence and abuse where they can go learn. We should coddle the victims and punish the bullies, we should encourage openness and make sure the people getting bullied have the courage to ask for help and even stand up to their aggressors.

How? By making sure the bullies, the predators, stay away from kids that just want to learn. This is a similar strategy to how we deal with sex offenders.

And they rely on their faithful tools of fear, ignorance and apathy to continue on. You can't just simply avoid bullies because they'll find you alone eventually. It reminds me of that kid in Florida who tried avoiding a bully and he had to stab the guy to death in self defense. And that was when he got off a school bus full of people.

If we're talking verbal abuse then in my case I just verbally humiliated them, and with other people present to overhear it. You wouldn't believe the feeling of satisfaction you get when you humiliate a bully, they tend to think twice about another attempt.

I agree that kids should be taught to make a stand, but it's not always possible and that's why there are victims and that's why other measures need to be taken. Kids are still developing their self-esteem, their sense of self, and the strength or will to stand up can't always be there.
@zealot256 I'm sorry to say this but I still don't believe taking passive or passive-aggressive measures such as talking things out or whatever will be effective when it comes to bullying. MAYBE something temporary, but I would not consider that problem solved. If bullies can't get their jollies out of one kid it'll just be another, which is why I think a more aggressive approach should be taken. Administer the cure instead of treating the symptoms I guess is what I'm getting at.

@theAntilli Not always true. There are people who stand up for themselves over and over again and the bullies just keep persisting. Its a never ending cycle. They pick on others to make themselves feel better and if someone tries to push against that, then they just intensify it more. People just don't "let" themselves get bullied.

@theAntilli Not always true. There are people who stand up for themselves over and over again and the bullies just keep persisting. Its a never ending cycle. They pick on others to make themselves feel better and if someone tries to push against that, then they just intensify it more. People just don't "let" themselves get bullied.

I can tell you Harry, it is life altering. Victim's can either choose to stay victims or they can love themselves enough to stand up and be leaders in the quest against bullying. I was bullied horribly and it affected me so deeply. I am now a yoga teacher and I help people move past difficult events through yoga, meditation and fitness. A lot of deep digging if you know what I mean. And a lot of forgiveness. Lot's of love to you. Donna

Hi, I loved that. It is such a serious issue and, you're right, it is killing people. For some there is no happy ending. But for others and with all the awareness now going on, kids are learning to love themselves. So let's keep showing them lot's of love. Thank you Harry.

@donnamarguglio Thank you Donna, I haven't faced bullying since I was quite little so I don't quite know how it feels. But when my friend was telling me about how they get their money stolen, teased and pushed everyday, I just couldn't believe it, I couldn't imagine living in fear of everyday.
