  • I can't speak Portuguese but i could tell it was portuguese. But the song definitely sounds Greek.

  • That was frnech not Portuguese.

"To football atleast" = "au football au moins"

  • @Kenx95 its portuguese i should know i am portuguese and i speak it 2

  • @Kenx95 It is Portuguese, in French moins would be pronounced moi' not moinos.

  • @Kenx95 It is Portuguese, in French moins would be pronounced moi' not moinos. Latin languages are all alike you know?

  • he looks like my daughter's boyfriend YUCK

  • Is that Portuguese or what ? Im confused

  • i was gonna say brazilians not portuguese

  • I could tell this was Portuguese even though I've never heard someone speak Portuguese in person or on TV. Imagine that =P

  • lol cold but funny :D

  • Drives me crazy how ignorant the producer was with this commercial.

    Like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Widow is definitely Brazilian (Mineira, for those who care)

    Son sounds Arab to me.

Regardless, there is no excuse for stereotyping and lumping cultures together in this day in age

  • @greglgates I think you're being wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too sensitive. How is there any stereotyping going on here? An accent being off doesn't constitute that.

  • @redsox28282828 you could have a good point. the stereotyping for me comes in "everyone who speaks Portuguese is the same." Historically accents have been very important in differentiating heritage and culture. Would you find it strange to hear Lincoln or Kennedy talk with a deep southern drawl? It's that kind of thing... they just got it wrong.

  • V poor

  • V poor.

  • i was born in america with a 100% portuguese family, but i don't know how to speak it, but understand most... i heard this commercial and i'm like "it sounds a lot like portuguese... and he's wearing our colors... but... something's different..." and with this brazilian stuff in the comments, now i know! :)

  • regardless of whether brazilian is portuguese or not, the truth is grammar and pronunciation are really different and obviously so (i'm portuguese, btw); and ok, i know, it's just an ad and you have to be one to know one, etc.

STILL: there were copious amounts of money put into this and the production company that did it just won production company of the year at the cannes ad festival.

so, it's incompetent to not even bother checking. also, considering both countries have 2 squads, i mean...

  • LMAOOOO!!

  • Great job to all of you. Way to make something out of nothing. Its a commercial, we should all be reaching into the fridge for a beer during these anyways...

  • ... to futbol, atleast

  • @nashrox61 you mean he cheated on this old lady? nah, i trust him.

  • Brazil vs. Portugal: who will win tomorrow?

  • @garciaworldcup 0-0 lol

  • I want the song in the end :O!!!

  • Is this the video which has been pulled down by catholic church?

  • @vecie78 no

  • @otlil ty 4 replying.where can I find that vid?

  • @vecie78 i couldn't find it either. apparently it was on youtube and then it was removed.

  • And by the way- there are Brazilian teams with Portuguese colors- there are FOUR Brazilian teams called "Portuguesa". Take a wild guess as to their colors.

  • haha funny commercial

  • Listen people- regardless of whether these people are Portuguese or Brazilian, the colors the dead guy is wearing don't matter a damn. I don't think that what he's wearing is supposed to represent any team, rather, it's generic colors put on the guy to represent some generic team he supported.

Am I the only one who has realized that???

  • @mosstrooper you are so wrongggggggggggggg

  • @joaocarlosmilkman So, you're telling me that a company that obviously doesn't have the rights to market the Portugal national team is doing just that?

It's stupid- companies do this all the time, generic colors and generic jerseys- check the Budweiser commercial that they've been showing for the cup, among other things.

And I'm NOT wrong about the teams named Portuguesa, I'm 100% sure of that.

  • i guess english people would not be annoyed if the guy in the coffin wore american colours and the nan was clearly from liverpool... they're both english languages so it doesnt matter, right?

its not offensive but it is crystal clear they haven't looked into it properly...

and how does a dead guy hold a ball?

  • Comment removed

  • @jmfventura its called a commercial and sarcasm LOL chill out its not that serious

  • @globalk100 i guess the reason people are annoyed is simply because they didn't get their facts right... some may understand, some may not understand, if they had a reason to have different cultures then yes i would understand but they don't link this difference to their ad, which is confusing and thats what is annoying

  • This is embarrassing especially for the people who created the ad , who should know better before they start fiddling with things as important as National colors and languages. I guess you can be a very creative and successful ad person and still pretty ignorant.

It's not offensive either for the Portuguese or the Brazilians , it's just a testimony of widespread ignorance.

  • YOU EFFING MORONS, SO-CALLED CREATIVES WHO CAME UP WITH THIS AD:

BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE IS NOT THE SAME THING AS PORTUGUESE (THE CORPSE IS WEARING A KINDA PORTUGUESE-COLOURED SQUAD APPAREL)!!!

EFFING INCOMPETENT WRITERS, ARTS, CD'S, DIRECTORS AND WHOMEVER CONTRIBUTED TO THIS DISPLAY OF IGNORANCE!!!

  • @nelsonesq go vent somewhere else dude...there is no place for this here anywhere. I'm Portuguese and I don't care if the ad mixes Brazilian accent!

  • Now I know I ll never buy a "hyundai"... But anyway the accent is right since most of portuguese national team is brazilian/african...

  • Lol They can't even pronounce Hyundai properly.... xD

  • This is a big disappointment.

It doesn't matter if the accent it's from Portugal or Brasil.

I'm Portuguese and I believe no nation's colors should be used in a commercial like this, especially during the world cup. It's a big disrespect for any nation.

  • Hyundai & their Ad Agency really Messed Up.What is the problem here Language or Color of team?Well, what does it matter, if there is Translation? IT SHOULD MATTER!They are speaking PORTUGUESE and mind you it’s from BRAZIL. YES, there is a difference between Portuguese from PORTUGAL and Portuguese from BRAZIL.Before anybody comes up with something like this, make sure you use the right colors to represent the people and country they are from.By the way, I AM BRAZILIAN, which says I KNOW BETTER!

  • @santanaclan I am Portuguese and that was my first thought when I saw the Portuguesse flag, She is speaking Brazilian and not Continental Portuguese. bad! Saw it for second time and pissed me off from the other side. They can get it right.

  • @santanaclan this is stupid and crazy!! why are you guys so offended?? I see Brazilians offended because the ad used PT colors, on the other side Portuguese are offended because the ad use Brazilian accent..WHO CARES????? it's all good! it's an AD for God sake!!!!

I'm Portuguese and I'm not offended in any way! get over it, grow up and understand one thing...we're all united by the same language but with different accents!!!

  • Terrible analogy. I hate these commercials.

  • most world cannot read arabic world cannot write arabic language, because arabic language is like art, arabic is big diffcult my life.

  • The degenerates that work for Hyundai should be fired and the executives should hire someone who knows the difference between Portuguese and Brasilian. How do you have the old man dressed up with the Portuguese national colors and 2 Brasilians speaking Brasilian Portuguese and not authentic Portuguese?? You imbeciles have revealed yourselves. You have offended the country of Portugal and its people. Fix it Hyundai!

  • @PauloValpacos so is that why the tanslation is of? at the end the old lady says "educado" which in italian and spanish means educated but the son says commited

  • @ciabogado

Portuguese, Spanish and Italian are romance languages and have many similar words. Listen to the commercial again. She says "dedicado" (meaning devoted or committed). The translation is accurate.

  • @ciabogado

    she says dedicated

  • love this commercial

  • There're two mistakes on this ad. The first one is the language and accent as everybody are saying. But the second mistake I think is , you never can related a car ad with dead. That was the huge mistake for me. I never want to buy a car that reminds me death. ;) Marketing people failed twice.

  • the besssssssst i love this commercial !!!!!!!!!!

  • A portuguese guy emigrates to Brazil. He marries a brazilian girl and they later emigrate to the US where they have a kid. The father always rooted for his national team. That's the only explanation I have for the inconsistency between the portuguese outfit and the brazilian accents.

(that or they stay in Brazil and the son speaks english only for the benefits of the US viewers)

For all I know, the widow and the son would root for the brazilian team. :-)

  • @cafecomics Problem solved!!!!!

  • @cafecomics would not be much easier to pick someone with a portuguese accent? All that may be correct, but would make much more sense to go straight to sommeone from Portugal. You thought, but whoever made the commercial didn't

  • @cafecomics Brazilians speak Portuguese so they obviously have smiler accents

  • @cafecomics Is that even matter??? Portuguese is Portuguese, be it in Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, or any where else....there are different accents...so people be proud your language is widely spoken it doesn't matter if the accent is Brazilian and the dead man wears Portuguese colors..it's all beautiful to me and it shows how united the Portuguese speaking community is!!! I love this commercial!! viva a lingua Portuguesa!!

  • Makes me so proud when people notice and know the difference between a Brazilian accent and Portuguese accent.

    Força Portugal!!!

  • so i was lookin all ovr forths video expecting something reallyfunny.....pretty much wat the fuck......u peps got to get ovr yourselves

  • Made it to TopofYoutube(.)com lol funny commerical

  • One of the funniest commercials I have seen. Made me giggle this morning. Except, I think it will be the other way in our family (me in the box with sports gear on).

  • Portugal 0- Ivory Coast 0

so far, We'll see how it ends.

  • Are you guys serious? Have you ever heard of immigrants? Judas Priest, this commercial is pretty straight forward... And have you ever heard someone speak English in a spanish accent?

These are the colors of the 2010 World Cup, not of Brazil. I'm shocked at how many stupid people have commented on this video and have no idea what they're talking about...

  • @ElPorteroBestia you seem to be the one who doesn't know what are you talking about. The woman and the young guy have a Brazilian accent, the old man is dressing the colors of the Portuguese national team, thus colors of Portugal.

  • @ElPorteroBestia You have a god way of analyzing it BUT sorry, no real soccer fan wears the colors of the Cup. We wear the colors of our team, to represent our team and to support it. A Die hard fan would not be caught 'dead' wearing another color if not his team colors. It's not stupid it is common sense.

  • @santanaclan That's why this is a commercial, made my AMERICANS that have no pride or sense of pride when it comes to football. I understand perfectly what you're saying, and yes, if they had consulted someone that knew 2 shits about this sport and the tradition from a country that worships football, they would have gotten this right.

Unfortunately, they didn't, and they're representing the Cup, not the country.

  • I agree, those colors should be just green and yellow. Or that lady should speak portuguese with Portugal accent, not brazilian accent.

Plus the son is speaking english with spanish accent, what a mess.

  • There are plenty of Portuguese nationals living in Brazil..

Great commercial, funny and sensitive at the same time!!!

  • There are plenty of Portuguese nationals living in Brazil!!!!!!!

    Great commercial!

  • I just saw their commercial featuring Argentina player in a church for Hyundai, I think their point is to to make everyone up in arms and talk about it. So instead of giving them what they want and make it controversial laugh it off, it is funny.

  • It is funny, maybe this way they just involved both of these countries who do share a language and a love for the game. I'm Portuguese and I have no problem with the Brazilian accent being used. It does show some ignorance but we can turn it around. Look at it this way how many Brazilians have grandparents who are Portuguese and How many Portuguese have Brazilian Family. Both Brazilians and Portuguese understand the loyalty that the commercial is trying to portray.

  • either the actors should've spoken in a portuguese-portuguese accent or the dead guy should've worn brazil colors. i'm surprised the actors didn't stop this!

  • Get off your high horse people. Portuguese is Portuguese!

  • @garciaworldcup Sorry but it is different.

  • Is there even such a thing as a Brazillian language? People in Brazil speak Portuguese.

  • @SuperGLS

in this case it's all about the accents. people in brazil and portugal both speak portuguese--but with different noticeable accents. so it's very strange to hear an accent that represents one country (brazil) go along with the colors that represent another (portugal)--even if the language is the same. it would be the same thing as 2 people from the US speaking as though they are the family of a guy dressed to represent england or australia, same language, different accent.

  • @stargazer6389 Good example here.

  • @SuperGLS There is a difference.

  • @SuperGLS Yes, Brazil's language is Portuguese, but the accent is very different from Portugal's Portuguese. Something like Scotland's English and USA's English, for instance.

Portuguese speaking countries will know that they're not talking Portugal's Portuguese, but Brazilian Portuguese.

For all the other countries it won't matter.

  • @arlab it goes further than scottish and american english, there are entirely different words and spellings, some portuguese people can barely understand a brazilian, although the same might be said of a Glaswegian and his Texan friend...

  • @SuperGLS sometimes the variation between the accents and certain words are very different, but I can understand the majority of the time when I listen to Portugal portuguese.

  • @SuperGLS, there is such a thing as brazilian dialect, just like american/british/australian, etc.

  • @SuperGLS oh thank you for enlightening us, captain obvious! however, it is not so simple.

there are different dialects that may vary significantly in pronunciation and vocabulary/terminology and also reflect cultural/historical/political contexts and friendly rivalry between the two countries. these diffirences are part of their identity and is a huge deal in both countries.

  • This commercial is so stupid! Why didn't anyone realize that the dead guy represents someone Portuguese and the two people talking Brazilian? Total fail.

  • It is very funny LOL ......Daniel Rocks

  • it's not funny anymore because they were supposed to talk portuguese with portuguese accent since the guy who died is painted with portugal colors, instead they talk with brazilian accent, totally ruined the commercial

  • Very funny

  • This is funny! LOL

  • Why is she talking Portuguese with a Brazilian accent and the old man is wearing a Portuguese equipment?! :/
