I think both ways of setting up the joke work, verse or chorus. When arranging this, the original video was so hot, so changing it up, inserting new jokes and cutting one of the verses so that the joked didn't get old, was necessary. It was great to hear from Davinci's Notebook themselves that this was the best arrangement they had heard. The original is great, so for this to have it's own life, there needed to be a few changes.
Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy the chorus before the first verse? The first verse is needed for the listener to understand what's actually going on, leading into the chorus as an early climax. Butchered.

You're right, plus they skip a verse. It's a shame, because these people sound like they're pretty good singers.
