@ZeroRegretTV I know what you mean, but in any dojo in any style the practitioner's desire and will to get stronger is the most important. At the end of the day, a belt is not going to save you from street assaults.. Everyone should train for themselves. If a fool believes he is strong just cos he has a black belt, then let the fool be a fool.. the dojo shouldnt have to discipline stupidity
@ZeroRegretTV -damn right.the real karate training is very tough.i also train with 4 students only.when one recieved his 1st dan, sensei tested his training by hitting him flat on his tummy with a nunchaku.
my school is shurinjiryu kenryukan karate or way of the nothern shoalin temple for those of you who arent japanese or dont speak the languane pradon my english
Unfortunately I could not find any official sites, but I know Bill Duff's statement was wrong; the martial art that has 50 million practitioners is Tae Kwan Do, not karate. Karate in fact has considerably less, around 14 million, the largest single style in the world right now is Kyokshin, followed by Shotokan. If I am wrong, please PM me sending me a link with the actual numbers. Reliable sites only please.
I am not sure about Okinawa style grades, but for Kyokushin there are 10 kyu grades: orange, blue, yellow, green, brown. Each color covers 2 grades e.g. 10 kyu is orange, 9 kyu is orange with blue stripe etc.

Most people give Karate shit for not being as effective as other martial arts.....That is true for people you are taught by large branch dojos....
I train with 3 other people in a small dojo...We get very personalised training because our sensei knows our limits....
I believe that the branch dojos give people false confidence...
In my dojo to get black belt requires the upmost of skill. In the branch ones....any fool can do it...
It sickens me.....its all about money to those guys.

@ZeroRegretTV this is very true, it's not the style it's the teacher, and the teacher's teacher. Well said.

Kyokushin gi has short sleeves - ending by elbows. Those in the beginning are for Okinawa Karate styles.
And by the way the belt colors are not exactly from bgight to dark - the blue belt goes after orange and is followed by yellow.
egorych 3 years ago
...Wait what? it goes white-yellow-orange-green-blue-brown-black. It does get darker as you go up so I dont know what you are smoking...
darkestmerc 3 years ago
I agree.
hmm... I guess I forgot that there's no red in karate.

This color exists actually, it's for 10 Dan. John Blueming has it e.g.
