  • I love the video style they used

  • I know the person who made this video!!

  • Is he really 65?

  • This is a sarcastic song. He is guilty that He should've died with all those people that died in the accidents mentioned.

  • There is a reason why everything has happened and will happened. Those 8 people who died in the car crash, they must have been ready to go to heaven or hell early, and you ( the one that survived) needed a little more time here on Earth. Take the song the way you want, but jesus is doing these things for a reason, and we might as well go with him.

  • At a concert in Pittsburgh lead vocalist Ryan Miller introduced this song saying, "you know when you watch a football game and your team scores and you think, 'it's Jesus' and then the other team scores and their fans think 'it's Jesus'? Well that makes me laugh, and that's what this song is about."

  • @Skaman12341234 some guy wrote that on songmeanings, i didn't actually hear Ryan Miller say that

  • I don't care if people think it's a satire...it's still a good "christian" song I like it a lot.

  • uhh. i dunno what to think anymore.

  • its like christian rock, except you know....its good

  • Is there a reason Jesus looks like a dumba...oh wait...I just got it.

  • So sad.

  • the song is supposed to be a joke. He's commenting on how often times, people will praise jesus for their safety in instances where others die or are hurt, while those people are probably cursing jesus for the same thing. A miracle to one person is disaster to another, so praising jesus for an event where others die seems weird to him.

  • @airbob11 U gotta admit, it's still a great song. :D

  • I like this song and I'm not religious. I think it has to do with 'survivors guilt'. When someone survives an incident, especially if they are the sole survivors, the question always comes up 'why me?'. Some people live with serious guilt and shame (at times). This is a good way of explaining it...'It was not your time'.

  • @moxichick67 you realize this is an anti-religious song? Hes commenting on how rediculous it is when people "praise jesus" when other people are killed

  • This song is a religious satire. The idea is that many believe that Jesus chose them and saved them, but what about all of the other people that lost their lives in such catastrophes?... why didn't Jesus save them? "Two at a time" is again another song that alludes to a similar meaning. Guster has openly alluded to this.

  • And simply put, regardless of your faith, it's a great song!

  • Fun fact: Ryan, Adam, and Brian are all Jewish. Their music is often influenced by their degrees (Religious studies, Psychology, and American studies). They've written songs relating to the Judaism (and to Christians, the Old Testament) like "Two at a Time" or "Jonah." There is a lot of cross-over between the faiths, and generally respect. Plus, there is such a thing as a Messianic Jew (being Jewish and believing in Christ). So simply being Jewish doesn't mean they can't respect Christianity.

  • Just saw them in New Orleans and they played this one.. It was so awesome.

  • Hmm, I wonder why Jesus kept the singer alive while all those other people were killed...

  • im a Christian, not sure if it's Christian or a satire, but i like it - a lot. Love their style

  • Such a great song.

  • Reminds me a lot of Relient K's "Deathbed". Man I love Guster

  • The song has a sense irony whether that equates to sarcasm or not I think is an open question. One thing I think is for sure is that if the narrator is supposed to be a real person it is not one of the band members because I'm pretty sure they're under 65.

  • Who cares about satire. This song is Awesome!!! C'mon.......give me a break.

  • Why didn't jesus help the other people in all of the accidents in this song? What makes the storyteller so special?

  • @erk13z the song is probably an antithesis to how self-centered it all is. if not the intention, it sure shows it regardless

  • they are pretty agnostic

  • Praise Jesus!

  • I especially love the soothing yet empowering Hallelujah parts of this song!

  • Folks, its a lovely melody, but it's most definately sarcastic. The lyrics about the airplane is true. Christians think that skydaddy has their best interests in mind. A plane crashes, or something, and one random person survives, and they think Yahweh wanted to save them and only them! How does the families of the other 235 dead feel about this arrogance? hmm? Way too many examples of this happening in life. Or maybe J. took 235 people to heaven and left one loser behind? :)

  • @comeade

I think if it was sarcastic they would have made it more obvious. and if it is, no biggie. christians will still like it. I do.

  • @comeade

saying that God looks after those who have given their life and/or loyalty to him, isn't such a great stretch. most religions (including jews) believe this. If the God in question is good, and wants his followers to do good, isn't it better if they're still around to do it.

  • @comeade HAHAHAHA... skydaddy. Love it.

  • They said they're not a Christian band, so this is likely a tongue in cheek mockery of religion in general ( not cool )

  • @SUPERDOOPERTUBER

just because they're not a christian band doesn't mean they don't have spiritual beliefs of some sort or other. that might or might not include some traditional christian strands.

  • @SUPERDOOPERTUBER

Very cool actually. The world needs more of it.

  • What? Is Guster a religious band?

  • @Shadowsteelll

not really. i mean theyre jewish too. and singin about jesus. haha . i love them.

  • im jewish theyre jewish maybe i dont know what it really means but...I think this song is beautiful and sweet. it kinda makes me wanna cry

  • Love Guster, don't eat them :-)

  • Love Guster, don't eat them :-)

  • I think what this song and video are portraying is that jesus is just a metaphorical person and "jesus" is in everyone. Like when he's in the airport and someone stops him from going on, it could have been anyone. idk just a thoery, okay im ready for the hardcore Christian to come on here and bitch at me of how bad of a person i am and how im going to hell...

  • @Clubpenguinisfortard haha, I won't do that. That's a completely reasonable theory. As a Christian, I found this song odd in that it isn't anything bad regarding Christianity, in fact, it's completely true according to Christians. I don't (or am not supposed to) see the world as completely random. There is some plan for people, and God (Jesus) leads us in the direction He wants us to go (though we of course have the choice to follow).

  • Another "Christiany" song kinda like "Two At A Time". Guster has stated that they aren't a "Christian rock" band. At the same time, they decline to delve into the "meanings" of their songs. They would rather let the listener decide what the song means. I am a born-again believer. When I sing along in my car I don't think, "Wow, this is an atheistic song making light of my faith." I see it as beautiful music with great lyrics that work for me. That's all.

  • It's decent, but where has good old Guster gone? Let's go back to the days of "Keep it Together" and "Lost and Gone Forever"!!! Something is missing to me.

  • @seanmcc0 see 'em live. the new songs are INSANELY good live.

  • Kinda gay, and not related to Soundgarden.

  • Love the song and the video. By the beard, I'm guessing Ryan modelled in a J cap and cape for the cut-out figure. :)

  • and the ending is actually like watching a fireworks finale. so cool. and i like the perspective of when he's driving and sees the deer...sad part but good video.

  • soo good and creative! artsy fartsy. i love the glittery, sparkly, bokeh background where it says "hallelujah."

  • This makes me cry joyful tears.

  • from what I can tell this song is a satire tho

  • @drdave2k11 I agree but what makes you feel this way? just curious

  • @drdave2k11 Indeed, all of this horrible shit is happening, and by chance he's alive but gives credit to jesus for "saving him", or rather... let everyone else die horrible deaths.

  • WONDERFUL SOUL LIFTING SONG

  • Aren't the members of Guster Jewish????

  • @DCLT05 I believe Joe is Christian, the only one in the band.

  • @DCLT05 Yup!

  • @DCLT05

haha yea they are. i am confused too

  • @DCLT05 Yes, but I heard one of the new members is Christian. I don't know if that is true or not. It might be a satire, or maybe they got the idea from Christian friends?

  • @DCLT05 Yup. :] They talked about it at one of their concerts.

  • @DCLT05 This is not a pro-Christianity song. Really look at the lyrics, in the song Jesus only cares about the one person while allowing all the others to perish. The song is less about Jesus and more about the mindset of people who think Jesus interjects into daily life. People who ignore all the death and destruction and show the survival of one as a miracle, proof of a rescuing deity, implication that one person earned saving with their faith means none of the others were worthy of saving.

  • great video!

  • I hate all these ads.

  • You can find out info about the directors (& we'll be posting making of 'Stay with Me Jesus' videos soon) at onedegreeoff (dot)com

  • This video was directed by Susan Hall, Kathleen Judge & Jason Creps of One Degree Off.

Not sure why Universal isn't giving us credit?
