  • Vastly underrated yes, there was a fantastic, inspiring chapter in our culture from say the late 80s right up until 2003 really (with Cyderdelic the Marc Wootton, Barry Castagnola show, narrated by the late great John Peel) where comedy was so rock n roll.. so out there on the periphery... it mirrored what was happening with indie music brilliantly... Robert Newman was kind of like Mark E Smith, with humour! And look at it now.. Michael McIntyre - what on earth is funny or original about him!

  • "oh fuck off !!" brilliant daring humour...truly brilliant

  • Still as funny as the first time i watched it.

    Thanks for posting.

  • I can see a lot of the Mighty Boosh in the painting sketch - reckon they lifted his style?

anyway he was first & best

  • @Goldengirl1979

I dont think the Boosh lifted his style, but i think Newman influenced a lot more comedians than have admitted being influenced by him. Vastly underrated guy.

  • @Goldengirl1979 I completely agree, I always think "Boosh" when he does the painting. Definately more influential then he ever gets credit for

  • Love it.....I wish they'd release "The Mary Whitehouse Experience" on DVD....it was so good....it's never even been repeated on BBC3...BBC4....BBC 3000 or whatever...they'll show Dads Army and One Foot in the Grave till we can recite it word for word..but this?!?!? Lost in a BBC vault somewhere....someone go find it...blow the dust off...and get it on TV!!!

  • Love it! Thanks.
