The lead singer of a group called Smith, named Gayle McCormick, did this a few years before Cher did, if I am not mistaken. Her version is slower, with the lyrics tweaked only slightly.

this song is called "it's a cryin' shame" not "Love walked out the door". This is a good Cher song. I have the album.

This is from the lost 1976 Cher album, "I'd Rather Believe In You" it has never been released on CD and thus is lost to history.
