I don't really care what anyone thinks, I like that album! Obviously Amused to Death is considered his solo masterpiece.. But it's fairly emotionally taxing, haha... I always have a great time listening to this album!
Saw this tour at the Hartford Civic Center...then the Momentary Lapse of Reason (pink floyd) tour the same year. This one stirred my 19 year old (at the time) emotions more. Im 40 now..and will always remember this show. Thanks for posting.
Radio Kaos is Roger Waters' best solo album. It shows his versatility in songwriting, the music just flows and is so coherent. May I also add that the production is just amazing. Its got a really warm presence in the room when you play it.
@thepompousfrenchman I really feel Radio Kaos is extremely difficult to listen to and enjoy....I feel Pros and Cons is almost as bad. I think Rogers first solo album called The Final Cut is by far his best release....Lord knows it was labeled as a Floyd album, I totally disagree that was a Floyd compilation!
@Abonanno24601 Depends really on what kind of Floyd fan you are! Do you consider Momentary or Division Bell a Pink Floyd album? I dont, just like I feel The Final Cut to be a Roger Waters solo album. When you say worst album, I personally and IN MY OPINION put The Final Cut above anything PRE Meddle.
@mrdave777 if you use that logic, then Pipers at the Gates of Dawn was a Sid solo albulm? (which it is not!) I like the Division Bell and Momentary Lapes of Reason and consider those as much as PF as Animals the Wall or Dark Side. Roger is NOT PF. Nick, Rick, Sid, Dave AND Roger are all PF and I don't think PF would of been as much as a power house if it wern't for Sid's demize and I hate to say that but true. Wish You were Here, All about Sid. The Wall I see more about Sid than Roger.
@Abonanno24601 I really like this conversation, I could debate with you the rest of the year! Appreciate your insight and opinions! Roger is definitely NOT Pink Floyd, including Dave, Rick and Nick! However, something has to be said about the ego of Roger after Dark Side...it exploded! Sid was a genius in his own right, but when you add mental illness with LSD...thats not good! Let me ask, would you say Ummagumma is almost a solo album by each member under the Floyd name?
@mrdave777 yes to you're question about Ummagumma. Would you consider Obscured by Couds a good albulm? Just wondering? BTW, I didn't know that there was a bigger PF fan than me! LOL. If you get a change, take a look at David Gilmour Live at Gnansk. There is a great version of Echeos and I think it may be one of the last times Rick preformed.
@Abonanno24601 David Gilmour at Gdansk is quite respectful, although he is NOT Pink Floyd! Just like watching this video on Radio Kaos....Roger is not Floyd! I just want to listen to songs like Wots..uh the deal, the only song I love on Obscured. To ask you further about the Final Cut....I read one time those were all songs rejected from the Wall. I put that album in my top 5 Floyd albums, but the composing and producing is 90% Roger, making it the same as Momentary....no??
@mrdave777 I think that KAOS is a far cry comparied to Gdansk. I get what you're saying but Roger kind of lost me when he started to play Floyd songs during KAOS. Kind of lost its meaning a little. I never saw KAOS live, but from what I've seen on Youtube, KAOS live kind of looses its naritave aboout Billy. Dave... well, I think he did the best version of Echeos at Gdansk I've ever heard with Rick. Yeah, Dave said that if the songs wern't good enought for the wall, why now?
@Abonanno24601 Different strokes for different folks...we are different....but fans nonetheless! :) Wots is a prime example of a Floyd tune, although I am preferable to only that offering on that album! You are correct about Davids comments on Final Cut! As I type Im listening to Pros and Cons...in my honest opinion? I DISLIKE IT so very much...yet love Final Cut...wots the deal? Bad pun! Thanks for the chat and great debate!
@Abonanno24601 My top 5 Floyd Albums in descending order The Wall, Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, Meddle, The Final Cut....and I could re arrange the last 3 :) Yours please!!!!
@mrdave777 Pipers, Animals, Wish you were Here, Meddle, and Darkside. Any order. I just can't get into the Final Cut but to each is own. Wots is the only good song on OBC? You don't like the title track OBC?
Roger Waters definitely holds a place in the 'anals' of writing history, however, he is NOTHING without David Gilmour, Syd Barrett, and MOST IMPORTANTLY... Rick Wright. Gilmour - the voice and guitar from God's Hand. Wright - the REAL genius behind the music. Waters - the inspiration and lyricist. Based on strictly musical ability, Waters is BY FAR the weakest link...
@thevoid99 ..Oh by far, it was the weakest of his solo work, IMO. I think he was trying to stay "relevant" by incorporating some "new wave" vibe into his music. It was, after all, the mid 80's. But, thankfully, it didn't end his career, and to me, Amused To Death trumped both Pro's and Con's of Hitchhiking and Radio Kaos.
I saw opening night of this tour (Civic Center - Providence, RI) and I was very, very stoned. Let's just say it blew my mind. The RADIO KAOS stuff was cool, but the PINK FLOYD stuff was amazing! Later moved to Los Angeles and would always listen to the DJ - Jim Ladd on KLOS. Good DJ.
Québec City is my home town and I attended that show. Thanks for bringing back these nice memories! I also attended a Pink Floyd show, also in Québec, on the 10th of November 1971. They had just launched "Meddle" at that time...
I thought the pros and cons tour was better. We saw it in Phoenix and the second half of the show was the entire record.. Got really stoned and the rest was history. Do they still make Sneak a Tokes? Best damn invention for concert s.

If most of you listened to the whole album and not just the first song(which is pretty weak)you'd realize it's actually a pretty good album. Who needs info., Me or him, Sunset strip, 4 minutes and the tide is turning are all very nice tracks.
lol thats where I find all my good LP's. Im starting a collection because I find them more interesting than CD's and downloads. I managed to find Richard Wright's 'Wet Dream' album for a fiver in Oxfam. Quite a find!
The quality of music doesn't mesure by the sales numbers, if that so crap like M Jackson, Madonna, b spears and others are the best in business. Rock on Roger.
This is probably the best footage of this tour known to public, but there does exist pro footage of this tour, but for some reason Roger doesn't want to release it.
Actually Pink floyd sort of disolved you know Rick Wright wasn't on the final cut in fact he had been kicked since before the Wall tour he was just asked to play on the tour but either way this was Rogers second solo ep The pros and Cons... was his first so no he didn't leave Pink Floyd for THIS
@soysaucefool funny story about The Wall. Since Rick agreed to be put on as a hired musician for The Wall Tour, hes the only person in the band that made money. Rick was the only real person that made money off the concert because since he wasn't in the band anymore at the time, he agreed to take union wages. All he wated to do was to tour with the band
Here's how I see it."Radio K.A.O.S" has a very 80's pop/MTV sound to it, and I think it adds to the whole feel of the album. I think roger used this style to send a message, since at that time, the radio would only play commercial sounding songs. So the overall style of the music blends with the over-all message Waters tries to send about the music industry. And that message is, well, I'll leave Mr. Waters to explain.
How was roger a commie and Momentary and Bell were in my opinion the weakest of all the floyd material. but either way Pros,Kaos, and Amused were good records but they liked one thing just like the Floyd records after roger were missing something and that was the Other members of Floyd

Pink Floyd are more than the sum of their individual parts - just watch the Live 8 performance - it is better than any thing Gilmour or Waters have done since they last played together, they need each other.
debbie gibson?? are you talking of that chick from the 80's. if so then what the *** are you talking about?? if not. sorry then you must be referring to another debbie gibson.
David Gilmour is one of the greatest guitar players ever. Rock and Roll truly began when Chuck Berry brought the electric guitar to the front of the stage. Roger Waters is a singular genius who was incredibly fortunate to have had Gilmour playing, singing and writing. Waters was also a notorious major pain in the ass to deal with.
i agree with the comments re.waters & gilmours singing abilities but i saw both in 87/88 and waters concert was far better....an emotional rollercoaster.long live them all
Don't get me wrong, I like Waters too. He is a good vocalist. But I think that Waters strength lies more in his songwriting, whereas Gilmour is the better musician and singer. I feel that was Pink Floyd at their best when those two shared those roles.
I'll put it this way. I like Roger more, I think he's the heart of Pink Floyd. (The geneius.) But Gilmour has a better voice, that's what makes Floyd so good Waters perfect writting with Gilmour's perfect voice. Put "Animals" is basically all Waters, and that's a perfect album. I don't think Waters ever needed Gilmour, I think Gilmour needed Waters.
I mostly agree with you here. Though I don't think that Gilmour really needed Waters, just look at the success of Momentary Lapse of Reason and Division Bell. Not to mention those huge tours they did. Yeah, the songs were better with Waters, but if you're gonna say anyone needed anyone else, both Gilmour and Waters needed Syd Barrett, otherwise Pink Floyd have have never existed, at least not in the way they do now.
@rogerwaters11 I agree. Gilmour needed Waters. I always thought Waters and Gilmour were perfect together. They have 2 very distinct looks and personalities that no other 2 humans could make/have to create such a super group as Pink Floyd.
I love Roger Waters (I'm driving from Dallas,TX to Omaha,NE to see him next Friday). Still, I think it's sad that he had to compete with Pink Floyd on the road while touring for his Radio KAOS album. I can understand his frustration, too, because visually and musically he doesn't hold a candle to them (as shown here). This might explain why he didn't really tour for Amused To Death until 2000.
As huge an admirer of Roger and the whole "Pink" team as I am, doesn't it bother you, particularly the left-leaning of you, that Roger's biggest passion in life these days is golf?
Oh come on..even Roger succumed to 80s Pop!

Gilmroe could never compare to waters

David Gilmour is one of the greatest guitar players ever. Rock and Roll truly began when Chuck Berry brought the electric guitar to the front of the stage. Roger Waters is a singular genius who was incredibly fortunate to have had Gilmour playing, singing and writing. Waters was also a notorious major pain in the ass to deal with.
bartholomew313 4 years ago
dude, gilmour wrote a little, but it wasn't untill waters left that he started to write.
tenordude14 3 years ago
@fadedhail99 Gimroe?? No I doubt he could. Gilmour, on the other hand, owns Waters ass.

i agree with the comments re.waters & gilmours singing abilities but i saw both in 87/88 and waters concert was far better....an emotional rollercoaster.long live them all

Is Roger screaming as in Run Like Hell. He done that in a lot of live versions with his voice.

This song makes Vera Lynn sound like Mozart.

You want to see why his voice is so bad these days? Start with this album

Excellent album by R Waters like every piece of work written by the heart and voice of Floyd.

heart of Pink Floyd..eh..maybe..but voice? I'm sorry, but that's Mr. Gilmour.
thepiper2112 4 years ago
Voice?? You're kidding right?
jimloufman 4 years ago
Uh, no I'm not. David Gilmour has a much better singing voice than Roger.
thepiper2112 4 years ago
Sorry, man. I have to desagree with you. Gilmour voice was ok but miss the feeling of Waters voice.
rockaires 4 years ago
Don't get me wrong, I like Waters too. He is a good vocalist. But I think that Waters strength lies more in his songwriting, whereas Gilmour is the better musician and singer. I feel that was Pink Floyd at their best when those two shared those roles.
thepiper2112 4 years ago 3
I'll put it this way. I like Roger more, I think he's the heart of Pink Floyd. (The geneius.) But Gilmour has a better voice, that's what makes Floyd so good Waters perfect writting with Gilmour's perfect voice. Put "Animals" is basically all Waters, and that's a perfect album. I don't think Waters ever needed Gilmour, I think Gilmour needed Waters.
rogerwaters11 4 years ago 4
I mostly agree with you here. Though I don't think that Gilmour really needed Waters, just look at the success of Momentary Lapse of Reason and Division Bell. Not to mention those huge tours they did. Yeah, the songs were better with Waters, but if you're gonna say anyone needed anyone else, both Gilmour and Waters needed Syd Barrett, otherwise Pink Floyd have have never existed, at least not in the way they do now.
thepiper2112 4 years ago
Hm... Gilmour's voice is so forgettable on its own though. You know when you are hearing Roger's voice. He is so passionate.

Amen to that/ My thoughts exactly

This might explain why he didn't really tour for Amused To Death until 2000.
djtrixen 4 years ago
*amendment to my post* The "In The Flesh" tour (which included ATD material) actually started in '99.
djtrixen 4 years ago
Yes he played "Perfect Sense", "Bravery", "It's A Miricle", and "Amused To Death".

As huge an admirer of Roger and the whole "Pink" team as I am, doesn't it bother you, particularly the left-leaning of you, that Roger's biggest passion in life these days is golf?

This is really great. A very good album and a damn good conceptual tour, fighting with Dave for the spirit of Pink Floyd.
I´m hoping to see the new Roger Waters tour very soon...
