@hot5pur11 Jeremiah Clarke did write another trumpet tune called the Prince of Denmark's March, which was first attributed to Purcell, so you're not too far wrong. You might have known that already, sorry if you did.
THe most original English composer of his time,oh yes,Hanry Purcell composed for the church, stage, and court and for private entertainment.I know,he spent his entire life in Westminster.thanks.
you listen to music like this, the Mouret Rondeau, etc., and what comes to mind is that the kings of that time may have been scoundrels, but, by gum, they knew how to be kings. It helps one understand why one addressed a king as "Your Majesty".
This piece has now been correctly attributed to Jeremiah Clarke. It comes from "The Island Princess." This is now the second time Purcell was named on Clarke's music-the other "Trumpet Voluntary."
@someonespadre Syphillis in the later stages might do that, but a more prosaic problem was head lice. It was the custom in those days to shave one's head to avoid them, and to make up for the shorn hair with a wig.
Interestingly, I've read that massive sugar consumption among the upper class (something quite new back then) also led to premature hair loss, while among the working classes it was the industrial use of chemicals such as lead (in paint) and mercury (in processing pelts).
Matt Kingston has made a nice wedding book for trumpet and organ containing 25 arrangments, this piece is amung them. Google: "Trumpet wedding survival kid" it is about 12 GBP in homeprint edition

Has anyone written words for the trumpet tune. I think it would make a great choral anthem.

This was the age of rampant Syphillis which makes your hair fall out, that's why the big hair came into fashion, lots of hair, no Syphillis.
