People watch these videos and assume that all officers are like this. There was no need for him to tell the guy to shut up etc. The guy was his brother, so he was concerned. The officer seems to be giving plenty of time, as well as clear. striaght forward instructions and said it many times too right? And then used only enough force to take the man down, didnt taze him repeatedly, didnt hit or kick him, didnt verbally abuse him either, only enough force to take him down and that was all.

THe officer gave him plenty of time to comply, and when he didnt he was the only one there to make him comply do you expect him to wrestle with the suspect then? If the family cared so much, why did they not tell the man to comply and not cause it to escalate? @dyllpickle94 Have you ever wrestled or fought a drunk or high person? or argue or have follow simple instructions? They usually cants and get irritated very easily. Then when it goes from verbal to hands on, it escalates faster than a sober person because they are too drunk to make sensible decisions. And then a half easy take down or arrest turns into a full out fight because they drunk guy has above average strengh and less pain.

A fight with hits or kicks or pressure points, which wouldve almost certianly occured had he tried to tackle him, would leave longer lasting pain and injuries, as well as more commotion which is not a plan to take when you are the only officer with an equal sized suspect AND his family right there.

Its alot more difficult and dangerous than you ovbiously imagine, even worse when the cop is surrounded by the suspects family/friends. And thats when its gets more physical and people get hurt, both the officer and suspect. Arm bars, baton strikes, punches.... alot more dangerous and longer lasting than a tazer.

@apples871 I certainly have. Duty gear is not all that constricting, so I don't know where you get that? Even given this guys size, I could have easily placed him in cuffs without a taser. DO YOU SEE any ACTIVE resistance by the suspect? Needlessly deploying a taser w/ the family standing around, not to mention that cops mouth, created far more danger to the officer than a minor struggle to get some cuffs on would have. Treating ppl with respect will get ya pretty far as these things go...

Yes they're not lawyers, but they need to know the laws of the state, county, and city that they are policing in.
