I'm absolutely PRO-breastfeeding, but sometimes women struggle with it. Yes, breast milk is the natural and best thing you can feed your baby. And it's very important! But that's NOT all there is to mothering. There needs to be a balance, if a mom is trying so hard to breastfeed that she is exhausted and frustrated and nuts then how is that "the best" for baby? There are plenty of babies who are healthy who were fed formula. Breastfeeding is a mommy-baby relationship and decision.
woman in my ante-natal class said didn`t like idea of breastfeeding, but would try for baby`s sake. She did it for several months, so it must have been better than she thought. That was in the days, when mums encouraged to ,breastfeed initially, but encouraged to stop early if problems
It's not pressure, it's information. If you automatically say you are going to bottlefeed, obviously you are uninformed (or have information only from formula companies)
I really *hate* the way people use "good for mum, good for baby" as an excuse for parents to do whatever they want to their child's detriment. If you're going to put yourself before your child for your own convenience, you shouldn't have kids in the first place - having children is about (amoung other things) sacrifice. If you're not willing to sacrifice what you want for what's best for your children, you're going to get a rude awakening when they're actually born.
Her body will make breastmilk whether she likes it or not. It's too bad she will make the conscious decision to deny her babies the most perfect food for them.
people that ask if you will breastfeed are most likely mom's who've done it and know the challenges and the many benefits of it and are trying to open themselves up to help you make a really important decision for your babies. Not being willing to even try to breastfeed is like saying, I don't have time to prepare my kids healthy food at home, so I'm going to feed them from fast food places.
Pressure?... Oops!, these girls needs some education. Breastfeeding is the best thing you can do for a human being, it is about health, nutrition and love.
I'm so happy to see the comments here. Certainly own your decisions but the harsh reality is you have a good reason to feel guilty about them. Birth and parenting is scary for a first-time mom, but there's something to be said for trying. I hope you changed your mind, and confronted what made you so uncomfortable about the idea.
So sad. It's all about what *I* want, not what's best for the babies. If she tried and it didn't work out for whatever reason that would be a different thing, but to not even try.... Long ago I told my son not to marry a woman who wouldnt't consider breastfeeding because it meant that deep down she was selfish. This video confirms that axiom.

How selfish of her to not think of what's best for her babies and at least giving it a try.

Yeah. She's right. Society should totally just encourage her to shortchange her babies. Whatever's easier for her!

Why *wouldn't* you breastfeed twins?
sduszynski 4 years ago 2
Yeah, that is pretty sad. It's not about how the mother feels about it, it's about the baby and what's best for him.
