This tone isn't that great, I promise take a jcm 800 either 2210 or 2203 honestly probably any of them but I have experience with those. The 2210 with a cheap ass DS1 in front with maybe the gain on 1 on the pedal and the volume maxed to boost the front end. It sounded smoother than this, there was no harsh edge on it and I didn't even think that tone I had was that great, I few fender bassmans and some real plexis and I got that tone.
oh so with your fingers you can change the 820ohm cathode resistor to 1k and bypass it with a .47uf cap, change the OD channels to a 2203 circuit with a 2200pf treble bleed cap, change the 1uf bypass cap on the first gain stage to .47uf, and finally bypass the 10k cathode with a .1uf cap? impressive mate. some fingers you must have to achieve the #34 sound with just your fingers
To all you dickheads saying "oh how come my AFD dont sound like this" it's probably because you cant play like him.. FFS man Slash would sound like Slash plugged into a fuckin celing fan..
I can get Slash tone outta my JVM, and its a fucking computer inside
This sound is basically in the AFD 100 head as well! It has two different gain stages and the one is the Appetite Mod, and the other one is Slash's #34. So you also get this wonderful crunch! It Sounds AMAZING! Can't wait to get my hands on this!
@AmnellAndreas Of course dude it won't sound like this !! this one is Slash's moded version i think there is another model coming out soon just like this one
@AmnellAndreas Definately man !! This is because if everyone can get the exact Slash tone then whats the point of Slash ?? There is a reason for it man !! If everyone is Super no one is !!
@RocketQueenBand201 haha sooo true man!!! but i can't really get it how slash can get so good tones out of it.. I'm guessing he's just putten some EQ pedal between

Slash and Marshall : i would like to thank you all very much for this ultracool sounding unit !! i love YOU !! thank you
@pratikppm its a pinch harmonic, you hit the string with the pick, but in the same downward motion, touch the string with your thumb to create that high pitched sound. the last one he does, he bends the string to get that cool sound. hope that helped :)
"As part of the AFD100's tonal investigation, Slash very kindly recorded some sample riffs for Santiago to study. As such these recordings have not been altered in any way, just Slash with a Les Paul plugged into his Marshall JCM800 driving a 1960B cab. . . enjoy!"
Thats what I got from Marshall AFD100 website
So the It's officially a JCM800 not the new AFD100
I suspect this will probably one of the most expensive Marshall's ever, when you take into account:
1. It's a Slash signature series amp
2. It has 6550 valves (4 of them) which are more expensive than EL34s
3. It seems to be based off a 1959 design and they have better quality covering
I suspect it will be around (UK) £1,200 - £1,400 which will definitely raise the bar for a mass produced brand...we can only wait and see...Though I love amps with 6550's.
@ItsChrispyTv yeah but why not releasing a moded 1959 SL Tremolo :( but I guess that's how it goes now... for example the les paul appetite is chambered unlike SLashes baby... dunno why they had this Idea, they're supposed to make reissues not upgrade gears
@HybridRxn Yoou just said yourself they haven't got the tone yet... If you listen to the Appetite album, you'll understand this amp has too much gain at the moment, just sounds too driven. The Appetite tone is crunchy, not full on gainy.
@zildjian15894 i know but i meant it sounds good, i know they don't have the tone yet. My freind watched a video that said the amp is coming out late april early may
Cool...I didn't realize he played Nightrain until I saw it again. Man, I wish I can get a kickass Marshall amp and like a Fender Vibroverb...I can play anything from Slash to Hendrix to SRV.
@asda6572 that's so false........ the VM sounds different!
If you want THIS tone, you NEED a JCM800 or a JMP 2203 (!! preferd) with 6550 tubes in it, a cab with greenbacks and it must be MODDED by an expert tech.. and this Slash's amp is modded by Frank LEvi and ANYONE ever had the same result that Slash got in this vid and in his other contributions. So STOP with these comments where everybody says that another amp (in this case the Vintage Modern) sound identical to this amp head.
@asda6572 it's better trying this other way than continue to play the VM, honestly... and when you have this other result with a 2203 (JCM800 or a JMP), believe me.. you will think that the VM is only a joke. With the VM there's no way.. 'cause is a different sound, a tottally different amp. If you listen Slash's new lessons on the Guitar World mag, you'll can hear what I'm talking about.. there's no way, this Levi mod head sounds million times better.
@stemean it's not fair comparing 2 amps with one amp cranked and the other amp on 2 on the master volume (which is the case on the guitar World Video). Sure the amps both sound very different but the vintage modern has an awesome rock tone in it, you just have to learn how to use the Body and Detail which is pretty tricky at first.
@Nellysman1 VM sounds weird. I hadn't say any bad things at all, I just can say that the VM suck, but I didn't do it.. I only tried to say that the JMP's and 800's are million times better.

No, this is a JCM800 modded by Mike Morin, this was his main amp in '90s.. he used to record lots of albums with it. Read my old post down here!! @goerge4 I saw a picture of a combo version of it as a prototype with only a power switch (no stand by) so maybe they will be making a cheaper solid-state version as well
@goerge4 Absolutely, Marshall aren't like Framus, Diezel, ENGL and the rest. They make amps for the people so making them priced for rock royalty would be throwing 40 years tradition out the window.
@goerge4 Good luck with that. They're only making 2300 of them. That, plus it's SLASH. I'd estimate well beyond $1,500, considering that one of their ordinary amps are that much, some more.
I hate to be pessimistic; I want that sound incredibly badly. But I also have to be realistic.
there are claims that SIR #39 stock was a super tremolo, not a super lead, and much evidence to back it up, but in a previous video slash says that he thinks it was a modded jcm800 as he didnt remember the 4 inputs that the super tremolo has...i guess theyre still working on figuring out wat the housing will be, but this video looks like its just slash giving an example of his AFD tone to the best replication out of that jcm configuration
is this 800 modded? or is it just a jcm800 with 6550's? cuz that thing sounds MEAN. awesome tone.. almost as cool as appetite tone. has he recorded with this amp???
of course.. he recorded lots of things with this amp head. Slash recorded the Illusions albums, Dangerous of M. Jackson, Brick By Brick of Iggy Pop, Hey Stoopid of Alice Cooper, Ain't No Nice Guy of Motorhead and so on... and yeah, it's a hotrodded amp with 6550's
@stemean wait... so then where does the jubilee come in? did he only use those live? cuz i coulda sworn he recorded illusions with it... maybe im just retarded idk
Slash started to use the Jubilee heads when he started to tour with GN'R just 'cause he didn't have the Caswell stock#39 anymore (read the story) and his JCM800 was stock at that time but he was lookin for something different. He always used them live, then he used those amps in studio on the 2 Snakepit records and on Contraband. He also used them with the Slash sig.model with VR and with a Vox AC30. But he always used them live! His main studio amp always used to be this Mike Morin JCM800 head.

Slash used the Jubilee heads on some clean parts on those 2 Illusion records with a roland jazz chorus. But his main amp on that record is his JCM800 modded by Mike Morin.. can you hear the difference with the Levi amp head? Go to hear WTTJ with only the guitar parts and then go to listen the instrumental demo of Locomotive.. different tones, different amps.. the Morin amp is a bit more aggressive to my ears and its more treble. I can't hear at all basses.. with the Levi you can hear a BIG tone!

yep dude, Slash uses V30's with the Jubilee heads and with his signature heads.. but with this specific Morin JCM800 modded amp he STILL uses greenback's and used them in '90s for mostly his old recording things. This is a modded JCM800 hotrodded with 6550 and these amps with these mods NEEDS greenback's and an attenuator.
yes, of course.. it's an exact copy of a 1959 original LP. It's a Chris Derrig replica LP and Slash owns 2 copies of these beauties.. and also a Max guitar

wat u talking about modded spl he used a old jcm on appitite tht had an extra gain stage thn the slp
cameronc20 2 years ago
That amp is a fucking monster.
SparcoRX7 2 years ago 14
I find that this amp is too harsh sounding. Also, why are they using a jcm 800 when the appetite amp was a modded Super Lead?
FabC87 2 years ago
@FabC87
there are claims that SIR #39 stock was a super tremolo, not a super lead, and much evidence to back it up, but in a previous video slash says that he thinks it was a modded jcm800 as he didnt remember the 4 inputs that the super tremolo has...i guess theyre still working on figuring out wat the housing will be, but this video looks like its just slash giving an example of his AFD tone to the best replication out of that jcm configuration

Well i am surprised he plays it that good considering he wrote the riff over 20 years ago. Well i guess that's why he's a guitar hero eh!

can you hear any difference? Love this sound anyway a lot
stemean 2 years ago
is this 800 modded? or is it just a jcm800 with 6550's? cuz that thing sounds MEAN. awesome tone.. almost as cool as appetite tone. has he recorded with this amp???
Acidrain1993 2 years ago
of course.. he recorded lots of things with this amp head. Slash recorded the Illusions albums, Dangerous of M. Jackson, Brick By Brick of Iggy Pop, Hey Stoopid of Alice Cooper, Ain't No Nice Guy of Motorhead and so on... and yeah, it's a hotrodded amp with 6550's
stemean 2 years ago
when you say "hotrodded", im assuming you mean modded. How was this modded; extra gain stage, change in components or the circuit board, etc.
SquiLLguitar51 2 years ago
@stemean wait... so then where does the jubilee come in? did he only use those live? cuz i coulda sworn he recorded illusions with it... maybe im just retarded idk
Acidrain1993 2 years ago

Yes and gonna be his new sig. model for april when it comes out it looks sick. Its on Gibsons main page now!
spidermonkey22 2 years ago
yes, of course.. it's an exact copy of a 1959 original LP. It's a Chris Derrig replica LP and Slash owns 2 copies of these beauties.. and also a Max guitar
