  • simple but brillant song

  • Been looking for this for years...

  • I listened to oldies radio for 25 years and never once heard this song played. Talk about a forgotten 45. This is what I love about YouTube!

  • I remember the song- but know nothing about the singer. can someone fill me in on him?

  • @TiocfaidhArIa Here's what Joel Whitburn's Top Pop Singles 1995-2010 says: "Born on 11/14/1936 in Prairie, Mississippi. Died in a tractor accident on 9/7/2003 (age 66). Pop singer/songwriter/guitarist." Gilreath's only Top 100 hit, "Little Band of Gold" entered the Billboard charts on 3/23/63, peaking at 21.

  • @3000EJS Thanks very much- a wealth of info. I do appreciate it.

  • Thanks, TLP, if you're still there - a big hit here in Australia, too. Nice to hear it again.

  • Thank you!

  • 14 again;)))

  • I first heard this on a tape on a second hand tape recorder Dad bought in June 1963. I never knew who sang it until now! I still have the tape recorder (reel-to-reel of course) and hearing it again takes me back to my childhood.
