  • I've seen collins and gabriel from back in the day. They gave a lot. Too bad if some people don't like where one or either went musically later in there careers, they owe you nothing

  • I saw this concert at the Richfield Coliseum. Last minute plans, seats behind the stage, and an excellent show.

  • Hes acting and dressed like Freddie Mercury!

  • @Siggy152 ever wonder where Freddie might have gotten his influences from? Check your diary.

  • they don't make them like this anymore. peter gabriel. what a musician. wish i could have been sitting backstage. for every show.

  • This is awful compared to his work with Genesis.

  • I'm no rock historian, but isn't this a VERY early use of a wireless mike? Since this is in Germany, I wonder if he's using a Sennheiser?

  • @cc92103 Peter Gabriel was always ahead of his time, so it makes sense he'd be one of the first to use a wireless mic

  • he is just ace and the master of prog rock when he was years younger than the other aces...so he wins the crown hands down oh gabreal

  • Thanks for the info.Peter is great.

  • too fast

  • how come pete dont sing a genesis song on his tour just one

i think this is the only time ive seen him sing one. does anyone know if did if so is there any video or audio ?

  • Rael lives!!!!! I love the wording on video right in the middle of the song. Kinda annoying. However, Peter puts on a great performance and is obviously just beginning to learn about how talented he will be in his solo career in the coming years.

  • This is really awesome - a real rarity - can't quite place the band. Is that Uncle Tony on bass? David Rhoades with all that hair? Help me out!

  • @tmckinley100 this is from rockpalast of 77 i have this no david rhoades at the time

  • only gabriel could get away with this - so hats off to him i say, after all he made the bloody lamb

  • @MoveOverCasanova and your right but like all musicians things must come to an end(your progressive hypocrites hand out hteir trash but it was mine and i'll burn it to ash)and he's right never to perform it again

  • @slubberdegullian67

i don´t quite understand what you mean -- but recently gabriel began to play very old obscure stuff by audience request, he even considered playing "suppers ready"

  • hmmm total pos...wonder they made it anywhere

  • Great Genesis song!!

  • Peter Gabriel a master of progressive music without dudes

One of the most creatives musicians in the history of rock

  • Whats with the work gloves petes got on?

  • When he went solo he wanted to draw a line underneath his Genesis days. Make sure everyone knew this was different. The whole band I think wear hi-vis construction vests & some of them have those work gloves. At some point they also all had shaved heads. He's Peter Gabriel, does he really need a reason?! This is a great vid, thanks for posting it bilelulubula!

  • ha not sure. you would think he would get some leather gloves for Rael or something.

  • @dvideto During this era he was trying to downplay his fame and show people that he was basically a humble, normal, hard-working dude just like anyone else. To illustrate this theatrically, in this series of shows, he shaved his head, had a ladder on the stage and people in the band wore construction vests, hats and gloves on stage. Peter is the man.

  • @dvideto

peter wairs the work gloves to show class..hes real

  • @numberwang2020 "Wairs"?You need some serious spellchecking there,buddy.

  • nothing bad can be said about uncle Pete..loved him since i was 8..now i'm 43..and my love is still the same...great Peter, great band..they always emotion me like a teen ager :o)

  • Excellent bass work by mister Tony Levin, that guy is out of this world.

  • He was out of breath! It was an encore. And Gabriel does change his looks throughout the years, but yes that is 100% the real deal! lol.

  • This may not be the best performance of The Lamb Lies Down that Peter ever did, but there's something about his breathlessness as he sings that nevertheless makes me melt. Mmmmmm, sexy Peter.

  • he's mine...he's all mine I tell ya!

  • I saw the Peter Gabriel band play knebworth and it was OK...not fantastic but well played and an interesting. This would have been around the 2nd solo record. If you recall both of his first to LP's are patchy brilliant at times but not always wonderful.

  • "And the lamb lies down on broad..."

Finish singing your own lyrics damn it!

  • i hate to say such bad things about peter, genesis,or their songs, but this version is bullshit

  • I think it wasn't as bad as you all said.

  • God this is awful.

  • Event: Rockpalast Nacht

Date.: Night from September 13 to 14, 1978

    Venue: Gruga Halle, Essen, Germany

other artists that night: Paul Butterfield,

Alvin Lee & Ten Years Later.

Our VW Kaefer broke down on the way back

    from the Concert..what a night!

  • The Peter Gabriel Band?

  • That introduction is the worst I've heard, even worse than some of the Genesis tribute bands we have today. I mean, this sucks so badly.

  • Phil Collins has admitted that Genesis also were not musically sound playing the Lamb live. Gabriel live was not good at the top notes either..

But Genesis wrote it and that's all that counts.

But yes that Keyboardist is bad.. Looks like he's jacking off..

  • the keyboardist is tony banks dickhead!

  • You are having a laugh here..

If you think that keyboardist is Tony Banks. Then you are an even bigger Wanker than the wanker on the keyboard.

Obviously you know F$%K all about Genesis..

    Knob!!

  • No, it is Timmy Capello on piano and sax, Larry Fast on synths. Do your homework before you call somebody a name like that...

  • Yes, do your homework...only then you can call people 'dickhead'

  • Isn't this really Kevin Gilbert?

  • What on earth IS THIS? What possessed him?

  • He's trying to be a punk, and it doesn't work

  • wow-this is pretty bad! love gabriel but this is so not his best work.

  • I don't know, I was at this tour and it was boss when he came out and did it.

  • yeah its Gabriel solo

  • What complete rubbish!

He really improved as he got older.

  • anda a cantar al infierno

  • Tony Banks looks like Billy Squier!

  • That's because it's not Tony Banks - This is Gabriel post Genesis.

  • The lamb lies down on Broadway is one of the best records ever made, and very left apart in their days,it's a cult.

  • collins just COPIED Gabriel's voice.

    Known fact dim wit.

  • thats not genesis...

  • Are there any other songs on Youtube from this Peter's solo gig? Has anyone found any?

  • peter trying to do a punk verision of this great song...and its shite

  • tony levin sans 'tache... so sick

  • Correction, it was 1978. There is an interview from ten minutes after the show on youtube also - which I just found. Cheers.

  • This is from - I think- 1977 live at The Rockpalast in Köln (Cologne)- a big musical TV event in these days. His first live band after the split from the real Genesis. It´s the encore after he performed an hour of songs from his first solo album.

  • >FAKE

-No. It's just not Genesis. It's PG.

    >collin's has the better voice

    -Vocal preference is subjective

    they're both great and you,,,,,?

    >hmmmm.....what was is that bottle they were passing back and forth?

-It's a well known fact that PG liked wine

    back in the day

  • FAKE

  • Erm...this isn't Genesis!!!!!!!

  • I agree. That is Tony Levin on bass for sure. It seems to be an encore for one of PG's early solo performances. Plus the video calls it "The Peter Gabriel Band".

  • Slightly too fast and Peter gasping and cutting off the words ;-)

  • I believe this was the encore performance for that mini-concert and Peter was tired. You would be too, if you put 110% into every show! :)

  • fakes

  • CRAP......

  • hmmmm.....what was is that bottle they were passing back and forth?

  • Remember when musicians could really REALLY play?

  • surely you arent refering to these guys... this is pedestrian at best, there were soo many better live bands at the time, ufo, jethro tull, wishbone ash... but not these guy

  • NO! STOP!!! I'm sorry Peter, you are the best, but GOOD LORD. I presume that he did not care about Genesis anymore at this point, so he did his best to wring himself of their songs, then dropped them after this tour and became a completely different musician.

  • Not the best performance, but still a very interesting example of an early Gabriel solo performance!

  • is that my peter gabriel in white pants - please tell me it is not so.

  • where phil collins?

  • probably at home crying over his divorce

  • He was , is and always will be the ' Master of Musical talent Presentation' The ABSOLUTE BEST. !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well that is Sid McGinnes (Sp?) from the David Letterman band...interesting all these session cats like Timmy Capello, who was indeed Tina Turner's musclebound keyboard player/sax player and onstage foil through the Private Dancer tour and Tina's subsequent comeback...

  • Sorry but....this sucks.

  • Thank you so much for the treat. Larry Fast?, on the yamaha cp-70?

  • No, that's Timmy Capello who also played sax and went on to play with Tina Turner.

  • i agree archshade, phil sold out to disney, i mean atleast gabriel retained some integrity.

    gabriel was a genius

  • collins singing was the worst thing that happend to genesis. woo gabriel

  • wow fuck you buddy! I love Gabriel and Phil, they are both amazing!

  • i'm a gabriel fan and collins fan...but face facts...collin's has the better voice

  • Phil Collins can't sing for Jack Shit, he never was or will be in the same class as Peter. If I hear him on the radio I turn it off for the duration of the song as his voice just irritates me like no other vocalist.

  • Me the same, my friend.

  • this is cool, bt it's not genesis (duh).....tony levin on bass & that sure ain't collins, rutherford & banks-still way cool

  • Late july 1978. Genesis with Gabriel as guest at Madison Square Garden in NYC. He was already out of the band. Best concert ever saw.

  • I was there. Practically nobody knew who he was, what with the shaved/short hair. He came on for the final encore, "I Know I Like"... but they didn't really announce him properly. It was sort of anti-climactic - I remember him being more in the background playing percussion with Phil. After the concert, we met a couple of girls from our high school, and we said "Wasn't that amazing! Peter Gabriel back with Genesis, and we were there!!!" And there were like...."Who?"

  • ????

  • No, this YouTube video isn't that night, it's a Gabriel solo show. I should have made that clear. But Gabriel did appear at Madison Square Garden with Genesis in 1978. I was there.

  • Gabriel left Genesis in 1975.

  • Yes, we all know that. He appeared onstage with them at MSG for one night in 1978.

  • I did not know of this. What were the circumstances that they were together? Thanks for the info.

  • The action is so fast and frenetic that Peter can barely catch his breath to sing. Amazing and weird.

  • I'think peter in the seventys, after Genesis's experience, he was mental insanity because he like Jonhy Rotten - just equal think boz 170 - .

  • saw him on security tour and have seen him at amnisty ineternational, seen genesis like mama stuff (ick) still want to have peters children. love this!!!!! thanks.

  • LA MEJOR BANDA DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS

  • rather 3:00

  • peter slows down the drummer at 3:15

  • nice catch peacejones

  • io amo peter gabriel, ma il look alla sex pistols proprio non gli si addice!!

  • The intro to "Lamb" - that tinkling keyboard - is one of the most evocative pieces of music ever. I only have to hear it and I'm transported back to 1974.

  • Well said.

  • Thank You tommygun

  • yes im sure is Tony Levin with this posture on bass!

  • gabriel's voice, looks and stage presence reminds me of jello biafra.

  • Tony Levin on bass in this video back then?

  • fookin brilliant, punk gabriel.would have loved to be there, love to see more of this concert

  • mamma che figo Peter!!!!

  • This has to be 1975, isn't that Tony Banks on keyboards?

  • not quite right. This was recorded in 1978 during the 3rd "Rockpalast" night (a terrific German music broadcast), and the guy pecking the keyboard is Mr. Larry Fast, Mr. Synergy himself.

  • who is Larry Fast?

  • Larry Fast played the keyboard on the first Peter Gabriel solo albums, and had his own project "Synergy", you'll find much more on Wikipedia

  • Please expand I am going on memory only and have recentlly ventured a guess myself.

  • Sorry, don't understand this comment (me = non-native speaker)

  • No. That's Timmy Capello. This is the "On the air" tour of 1978, his second solo album.

  • Yeap, that's correct. Sorry for the confusion, the keyboard chap isn't Larry Fast.

Nevertheless, I'm pretty sure that Larry played the 2nd keyboard in the same concert/tour, that's why I mixed it up.

  • uuuuuuuummmmmmmm..... PG got so much cooler in the 80's, his first two solo albums weren't great, and this is just embarrassing, they must all be on cocaine. five stars though because its hilariuos!

  • Funny, I thought they were among his best albums. Too bad you missed it. I saw most of his tours since Genesis and the first two were awesome.

  • saw em in the 70's me and mi bro.... they were the back up band for Lindisfarne. preston city hall ....long time ago!

  • Grandissimo Peter!!!

    No more words

    CDC

  • Amazing - where and when was this filmed? Looks like late 70s. What amzing energy PG had in those days.

  • sure looks like one of his first tours after leaving Genesis- he's so young and thin- i'd guess one of the first 2 solo album tours. so yeah, late 70s for sure. brilliant!!!!

  • 1978. The "Scratch" album or "On The Air" album.
