  • whats the point when you edit like that lol.

  • What do you ask strangers when you want to take their photo? Is there any paperwork involved to use their photo?

  • if only I had the courage to ask random strangers to model for me haha, great vid though! :)

  • thank you very much for this video.

    it was really helpful!

  • I love the first guy

  • bert i like the style of your photos

  • I want to start doing photgraphy and this is an inspiration

  • Man that was awesome! I think it's a good idea just to go shoot without any plans, that forces you to think in a creative way! Anything Bert shoots, turns out finally to be masterpiece of photography :P I really like this stuff! Waiting for more videos...

  • You're not just a great photographer but a person with a very good sense of humor! Thanks for the videos!

man you be getting girls holding that camera !!

  • Bert, you're awesome photographer... Nice portraits!

  • Hi bert, what do you youse for flash triggering on your cam and flash? iwant to buy the same

  • He uses Pocket Wizard which cost 199 & Vivitar 285hv bout 95 on B&hPhoto

  • amateur models look like professionals with your shooting. amazing...

  • Bert I love your work, great job! =]

  • Really impressive. I love your work very much~

  • May i know ur reason why u choose to shoot in the shade?? Btw really great work, u are one of my fave photographer...

  • the light at that time of day and especially at noon is very harsh and not very flattering and shooting in the shade allows you to have more control of the light and not have to compete with it as much

one question for Mr. Stephani tho (i would call you bert but i find it improper) out of curiousity did you have all those people sign model releases or just simply ask them if you could photograph them?

  • I have to say that you are one of my greatest inspirations. I love your work and hope to gain the same type of skills so I can apply it to my kind of art work. Thanks for making these videos. ONce again I love your work.

  • Sorry to ruin your day, man :o)

  • great job

  • great work!!

  • Definitely, you're great. I used to go around, no location, no gears, no models. when I was starting with photography. I used to do that, but even low reesources (canon 300D and 18-55 lense, de default kit, now I own a Nikon D700 with a 50mm lense).

What power do you set to the flash? and what Guide Number it has?

  • What whitebalance temp do you use in mixed light. e.g. Sunny day, girl in shade + strobe fill?

  • Maybe Auto, I used have mixed light sources with the 1D series and auto always seemed to work. Even better than a grey card.

  • I think the answer may be to use a small Munsell colourchart.

Change the lighting then take one shot with the chart in the frame to re-calibrate in Lightroom/Aperture.

  • Shoot RAW, adjust in PP until its right

  • Comment removed

  • c11umw: the white balance from the sun is the same from a vivitar 285 or any flash for that matter

  • Er ... no it's not. The sun's light temperature changes all trough the day. If you don't beleive me, what colour is a sunset ;o)

  • Love this video and what you learn us. Really appreciate it!

  • Love them, as well.

    Peter, as well.

    Fom Hungary, as well.

nice pic`s , good light.. good as usual

  • I wish I knew how you got those great photographs using the reflector to block the sun. My images always look flat if I use that approach.

  • MAN! Seriously! Those were one of the gr8test photos i heve seen!

You are a master of light!

  • Keep these truly amazing videos coming! You are truly talented with what you do! To not only be able to create these fantastic shots but to openly share your trade secrets all with a touch of humor may be the coolest thing I've seen lately. I find it hard to get inspired from time to time. Watching your vids and seeing your photos I no longer have any trouble! Keep it up! Cheers! -Marc
