Saccidānanda, Satchidananda, or Sat-cit-ānanda (Sanskrit: सच्चिदानन्द) is a compound of three Sanskrit words, Sat (सत्), Cit (चित्), and Ānanda (आनन्द) (the ā is of longer vocal length), meaning Existence (Truth, the Eternal), Consciousness, and Bliss respectively.
this is my shit and im only 22... i bet yoll thought us youngsters aint kno nutin bout this....well your probaly right but it doesnt matter i do tho.. i try to teach were i can but my lessons normally fall on deaf ears
@StevenCharlesJazz thanks man. that (yoga) is a journey I was enamoured with growing up, but only recently found out more about... beyond TM... in the AM... and the PM... impatience of youth. that's when i found music is the drug. btw, do you remember who did 'that' song...? it had the hook "TM in the AM and the PM" like a mantra. was it charles lloyd? i tried to find it online but get no reference to it popping up anywhere on google. google has been shitty like that.
This album, and especially this song, were part of my introduction to jazz (1971), along with Miles Davis' "In A Silent Way". Some of the most beautiful music ever recorded, and my soul was transported to wondrous heights. May God bless Alice Coltrane, Pharoh Sanders, Roy Haynes and Rashid Ali. Let us never forget the great gift that was John Coltrane, and the incredible legacy he left.
This recording has been in my life since 1971, 33", cassette, cd, etc. No 'attitude', no 'got a good beat', no'funky lyrics', no 'well, I'll show YOU'. Just a river flowing before, during, and after mankind's presence.
Listening to John Coltrane - that tremendous energy he plays with, I always felt it's like he's searching for God. All those wild notes he plays are like the pathway leading him to that sacred place. The album "A Love Supreme" is a great example of that passion & spirituality.
Listening to Alice, I feel like there's a particular tranquility - as if, in life, she found that place. And John is there, too. I suppose his life served as the inspiration for her to find that very place.
This is where her nephew Flying Lotus got inspiration for his last full length album "Cosmogramma". He's become an idol of mine, and Alice is super dope too!
Fellow vet here, different war though. I just wanted to say that I defintely feel you. Music like this has a way of taking you out of the bad times and transporting your mind and soul elsewhere...so needed sometimes to stay mentally healthy. If I didn't have my music, I don't think my head would have stayed in the game over there. Peace and love to you.
Alice, Alice, Alice... 'Journey in Satchidananda' runs through my ears over the, at times, vexatious years. Soothing. You are missed, lovely lady-greatly.
One of the most treasured performances of all the music I've ever heard. This song & album (& Ptah the El Daoud) turned me on to jazz, the Coltranes, & Pharoah, who's music, & very presence when playing, is transportive, primordial, & transcendental....
In fact, I still call music as this "Transcendental Jazz"...

Alice Coltrane (August 27, 1937 January 12, 2007) was an American jazz pianist, organist, harpist, composer, and the wife of John Coltrane.
