The stardard SOVIET made gunship helicopter would be a HIND-24D,a huge armored flying helicopter hulk well armed with machine guns,anti-tank missles and rockets. I certainly remember seeing this mini series on ABC-Tv,but I love the movie "RED DAWN",heck even the old farmers would join the US Resistance groups even if armed with old shotguns,.22 plinking rifles and M-1 Garands from World War II.

I briefly worked about a decade ago for the flag company in Lincoln, NE that supplied many of the flags used in this series. The display of different North American flags - Mexico, Cuba, Canada and (strangely) Quebec - likely had something to do with the statement by one of the characters that when the U.S. was finally sundered, the new nations would be joined into a "North American Community."

Incidentally, in this parade and throughout the miniseries, the state flags of Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Illinois are used quite frequently, along with the strange US/UN/USSR flag and a bunch of randomly designed flags of the "Administrative Areas."

The Soviet flag is used occasionally, but less frequently, as is a blue and gold striped flag of the new county of "Heartland."

No, not so much that Abraham Lincoln was a communist. This miniseries just picked up on the theme already employed in a number of Soviet-supported Eastern Bloc countries; local national heroes would often be coupled with communist icons in an effort to give the regime legitimacy. I'm sure may Czechs and Poles were just as shocked to see their national icons linked with Lenin as we are to see Lincoln with Lenin.

I don't know who did the symbols research for this series, but they were bang-on.

I am guessing that the Lincoln banners had to do with the Spanish Civil War's Lincoln Brigade made off American volunteers that fough there, obviously Lincoln could be a good choice for embrazing national and local heroes.
