  • My brother spent the whole summer learning to play this song on his guitar and singing it...and I loved every moment of listening to him learn it.

  • Oh yeah, great wonderful stuff. I must be getting old, because this sounds younger and younger to me. Thanks for posting!

  • i used to busk this song alot. after going through some changes, i forgot how to play it. i listened to workingman's dead and fiound the chart again. what a beautiful song.

  • i lost taste for the gd after mars hotel. i like good old fashion upbeat happy tunes from self titled, trippy tunes from anthem and aoxo, good old country/blues/rock tunes from wmd and beauty

  • Never underrated this tune. Was my favorite off a favorite album (Workingman's Dead).

  • Awesome song. Love the feel of it along with the harmonies as well. Good choice to share!!!

  • The Dead remind me of doing acid in the early 80's, a girl named Jennifer, who i haven't seen in years. A good friend who passed a year ago and a shit load of good, good, good old times...

  • I think it's funny, people always have the need to say they smoke pot when listening to the dead. I like listening to the Dead, and I never smoke pot. I enjoy the music just as much.

  • @tommythunder99

How do you know you "enjoy the music just as much" if you have never experienced the alternative?

Chew on it for a bit...

  • @pinstriker11 heard that

  • "When you told me goodbye, how was I to know?

You didn't mean goodbye, You meant PLEASE Don't let me GO".....

One of my favorite Dead songs EVER!<3

  • "When you told me goodbye How was I to know You didn't mean goodbye You meant PLEASE DON'T LET ME GO'

That line brings me to tears everytime I hear it.

  • This is NOT "rare" et al..Just "Working Mans Dead"....(it never 'died'...)

  • @BigWaveDav1

It's a rare song in that it didn't get performed live very much. Thought the explanation was pretty obvious.

  • @TheGodfather4200

Totally agree...I've been gettin' into some live shows from 1970. Haven't heard "High Time" yet. I've heard every tune on Workingman but this one so far. We're talking some long shows too. 40+ songs including NRPS! Thanks for posting a great tune. I listened intently to this album for a long time when I first started my journey with the Dead...

  • @TheGodfather4200 As opposed to being obvious, your explanation was what is called "ambiguous" when you label it "somewhat rare" rather than "rarely performed." This way, you end up with people like BigWaveDav1 shrieking their objections in a manner I found comical in itself, even though I thought the same thing he did (though all I did was roll my eyes over it).

  • @dantean LOL! That's good comedy. Spot on with a hint of sarcasm.

  • @TheGodfather4200 Oh it was obvious, but someone has to be this guy who in more or less words says "yeah, but I hear it,/feel it/understand it better than anyone else"

  • @BigWaveDav1 Oh, relax, would you?!

  • I love this song, I took a trip to montana, and listened to Working Mans Dead, Anthem For The Sun, Aoxomoxoa and The Grateful Dead's self titled debut, for the first time all the way through, and it was beautiful, nothing like smokin a blunt under the bridge by the river in superior listening to the dead, beautiful man.

  • @skovie23232 deadheads don't smoke blunts

  • The Best Country & Western song of all time!

  • A little out of tune, a little high...smokin my cavendish pipe in east mountain , waterbury ct. 1974

  • THe pedal steel in this song is fab.

  • One of my favorites. Beautiful. Thanks!
