i would like to share a movie called 'song of love, 1947' with all of you who liked this.. someone mentioned this movie under other clip widmung. you see Brahms and Schumans and Listz, too. the entire film on youtube.
When I got my first fish, I was very young. It was a gold fish and I named it Brahms. When he died I was very sad. This song reminded me of that fish.
@TheLagunaSunrise Bit extreme...'Kill'... I love Brahms...But I don't want to Kill them ...Just educate them...and make them see what they are Missing
@malakoffkowalski I've got a version by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Rafael Kubelik that sounds a lot like this. It's recorded in May 1983 and it's edited by Orfeo International Music GmbH. I'm sure it's not the same version, but it's probably the same musicians and conductor.
@tasagaste THANK YOU! Amazing... I actually have the Kubelik recording on vinyl and was thinking the same when i heard it. It's not the same, but still close in a way...
Ever since I had Music Appreciation class last year, this was the song (I know there's a better term for it, but I can't think of it now) that stuck with me. I even kept the free discs that came with the textbook and listen to the same three tracks of Brahms Symphony No. 3.
it's the same for me. i heard this for the first time in a music appreciation class, and this, more than any other, was what i took away from the class.
Actually not only you feel you know him, you feel it was somewhat you, a missing you who composed it. Maybe because his music inspires deep personal or psychological intimacy.
mozart, beethoven, wagner, chopin all were illuminati and to the looks of brahms and clara they looked like they dabbled in occult themselves. FUCK MUSIC ALLTOGETHER, MAN IS EVIL
Unrequited love....out of such agony there is a rapture only a true genius can translate. Truly moving.....blessed are the anguished souls of the world who contribute such beauty, without them the world would indeed be a dismal place!
An illuminating essay and my favourite bit of Brahms. Six and a half minutes well spent ( and now I'm going to have to find a good biography to read!). Thanks.
Thank you so much for making this. One of my favorite movements by Brahms and certainly a work of genius. This is put together in story form very well and even quite poetic towards the end.
when I was a child, I knew this melody from Santana's "Love of my life", then I heard a song of Czyzykiewicz (Polish singer) "Aniol bezdomny" ("Homeless angel") and then I accidently heard this, I made a little inquiry and I found also "Baby alone in Babylon" :)
I just watched and old movie called Goodbye Again ,and said to myself this is some great music,so im wondering was Brahms inspiration for Carlos Santana song Love of my Life.
He he, you got it. What do you mean inspiration, the song is lifted whole sale from this (except the little part "we'll go dancing by the moonlight..."
Carlos Santana heard this and decided it was very moving, so he wrote "Love of my Life" for his guitar with nice lyrics. Check it out, is far from an "Academic" version but takes the seroius music into broader audiences.
With due respect you already admit it's SERIOUS music then for goodness sake don't change it. Personally I think Carlos Santana ruins a master piece. I had to stop after 10 seconds!
I am what you could call a SERIOUS musician myself (Cello) but also a guitar player in a Blues Band.I understand your point and couldn´t agree more that serious music must remain serious. I just kindly ask you to understand that there is an audience for all kind of music AND if you can move people from hearing and enjoying Santana, into learning and appreciating the original and much superior music- then is a win win situation. Peace on earth. Music are mere echos of God´s voice
Thank you for sharing the story. This production was art in itself. That piece playing and those pictures have a nostalgic effect that almost brought me to tears. Thank God somebody cares about the passion of music, the composer, the hardships and the joys. That is the process of good music. The notes stem from those experiences. For those who complained about the story, know that the music is the reflection of the story. Composer's with dull lives rarely make inspiring music.
