mmm but... what about the lottery? I did not get how zak is able to buy so many air-ticket without run out of money. I remember that it was mandatory to play the lottery with the number stolen at the mind benders on the spaceship.
btw, great work!! I accomplished it in an entire summer on a pc386 (w/o walk through of course)
i wonder how much time i played with this... in fact i learned english with that game... i used a whole dictionary just to understand what it was saying, then i used it to play "maniac mansion"... silly me, hours of fun...
@TheSallySeagull Download the Monkey Island 1 remake from piratebay or something and then press c or space or something while playing and it goes into old school mode.
Or just simply download Monkey Island 1 & 2. They work on Windows XP as least (no sound, though) or download DosBox and then the games and get the PC versions with sound.
Or download WinUAE and emulate the Amiga versions.
Or you can always download Maniac Mansion DeLuxe for PC.
@TheSallySeagull Maniac Mansion DeLuxe and Monkey Island Remake should be found on piratebay and Monkey Island 1 & 2 just simply google Monkey Island 1 torrent and Monkey Island 2 torrent. You'll probably find both in one big torrent. Not sure if the latter works on Vista or 7 (if you use Windows) but they work fine on XP (sound's missing though)
Great game. Great humour which seems to be a mix of George Lucas and Monty Python (but even funnier and more brilliant than Python). This game along with Maniac Mansion taught me English when I was a child. (I was born in 1976.) I used to dream about this game at night, about the scene in the airplane with the egg in the microowen...
Aww I wish I had this game still, it was awesome. I remember I had this on a PC thing and a sega - maybe a PS1 too. But this game and Maniac Mansion pwned them
Yeah I remember finding out by accident that you can sell the butter knife for a huge profit if you bend it on the floorboards or the loose dirt. When I first played the game on the A500 I had virtually no cash left so went to sell all my stuff and the guy says "wow that's a rare artifact!" and gives you a nice cash boost!
At 32:00 - 32:07 something strange happens. You have Leslie holding the sarcophagus feet keeping the stairway open but as soon as Melissa reaches the top you switch to Leslie and release the feet which should close the stairs so Zak and Melissa can get to the middle of the room - However in this vid they mysteriously teleport there!
Also when stealing the flag pole you don't need to set fire to the hay as long as you quickly get to the yak with your cash card.
When you switch away and back, the character ends up in the middle of that room, no matter where they were initially. That "trick" (bug?) is used twice, for Melissa and Zak, to save some time.
There's a similar idea to gain a little time at 29:00 (she keeps walking even after the switch).
Nice idea with the flag pole, if it really works, it would have saved some time...
Wooohoo! Zak McKracken from beginning to end! Havent seen this game since i ÜBERFAILED at it as a kid on amiga 500. Now I see why I failed so hard, it's a huge and complicated damn game, here I am thinking I was retarded my whole life. hehe
I was only six years old, when I first played this game (Amiga 500 version, really good sounds). I didn't even know how to speak English back then. But I guess this game taught me a lot of English at an early stage =D. I wonder why we can't have any educational games at schools. Ppl bore the hell out because reading too much books. Anyway, I couldn't beat the game because it always crashed at a certain point. Later (about ten years l8r) I just DL'd pc version and used walkthrough.

why speedrun? you are cheating, you already start with items and you didnt had to wake up the busdriver by playing the trumpet, tz tz tz not a real speedrun.
1. He only started with the ticket to Seattle, which you get from your editor in the opening scene. 2. It's not a trumpet, it's a kazoo. Get your facts straight.
oh, it so reminds me of the old days! except when i played it it was on the old floppy disks which actually WERE floppy, (the big ones), plus you needed 4 of them to play the whole game... Yeah, and in my version you had to type in some codes from the sierra instruction manual before each time you used an international flight!
After receiving the winning numbers in the king's spaceship, go back to Lou's Loans and play lotto. You'll win and have unlimited money on your cash card.
You did a lot of bungling in this game, I think, like jetting from one place to another and then right back again without doing anything in-between, or neglecting to do a couple of things in frisco before shipping off to the airport.
Going back and forth to Seattle at the beginning is faster than staying in the plane and watching the cutscene (you can't skip the cutscene without landing).
Since you need to return to SF anyway with the blue crystal, it's faster to do things in the order chosen in the video rather than what you suggest.
very nice run. I remember this game from c64, the difficulty is hardcore. I wish the new games were like this instead of utterly dumb crap. The game industry got screwed by growing too big and publishers being interested in graphics only. No risks are taken...

You also don't see the entire "transaction" with the Guru - you can't just "esc" through a lot of it. I'm still bothered by the Bus in San Fran - the text doesn't scroll past that fast. I just played that exact scene on my computer and it takes twice as long.
i loved playing this game as a kid.
