This video says 1 in 10 suffer mental illness. Later videos say 1 in 4. These are not 'illnesses' and not 'diseases'. The modern psychiatric and even psychological profession knows NOTHING about what these are. I'm a psychology student. I've experienced depression, generalized anxiety, post-traumatic stress, borderline personality, social anxiety, and these are just a few. They are NOT diseases or illnesses. The experiences are real yes, but they are resulting from problems in living in society.
@Ragnarok187 They're organic brain disorders. If you've read any peer reviewed journals, you'd know that. Maybe you should stop trying to sound credible by saying you're a "psychology student". There is a century worth of research and evidence based treatment to help people with these very real illnesses.
@MrGrevy Maybe you should stop sucking pharmaceutical industry wang by saying there's research and evidence when there isn't any. There are few if any studies supporting the chemical imbalance theory or biological origins. Tell me, what is the best medical test to do on someone to see if they have a mental illness? You say they are 'organic brain disorders' and 'very real illnesses'. If they're real, what tests do they have to show a person has one of these 'very real illnesses'?
Are you really this thick? I can't tell if you're trolling. Of course there is peer reviewed research and even the AMA supports my position. Of course, to you, it's all a conspiracy so why bother pointing anything out? Can something exist without having a "test" to show it? Yes. And even then, people are misdiagnosed all the time ( I know, another conspiracy). You seem very juvenile and angry. I'm guessing you feel you were treated unfairly or unjustly by those eeevil pharmaceutical companies?
@MrGrevy So in other words you can't tell me a single medical test to check for any 'mental illness'. Why can't you tell me just 1? Cause none exist. How can you prove someone has a 'chemical imbalance' when no such imbalance exists (before the drugs), when there are no tests, and when no true disease existed.
I've not juvenile, but a little angry sure. I have access to the research, and the research supports what I'm saying. Psychiatry is based on lies. The drugs do more harm than good.
You want to tell the soldiers coming back from overseas that their PTSD isn’t real because you can’t detect it in a blood workup? You think schizophrenics are just hallucinating for the hell of it? I get what you're saying as far as their not being an x-ray, etc. to show an illness...but so what? That does not mean there is no mental illness. Your conclusion is illogical. You must be smart to know more than the entire medical profession! I'd love to hear your ideas on 9-11 and alien invasions.
@MrGrevy I had another question based on your comments. You said "Can something exist without having a "test" to show it? Yes. " So science doesn't need to prove something exists now? Science can just make stuff up without having to produce anything to show works or is even real? Cause that's exactly what psychiatry does. But psychiatry has nothing to do with science and everything to do with marketing. It's psuedoscience.
there kind of like sales people for the pharmacutical industry. The last thign you wanna be doing is popping loads of chemical pills which are mostly secreted by the living. MOst people actually imagine they are depressed. One psychologist actually proved you cannot be happy without being depressed sometimes. Its what nature intended and its in all of us. Everybody is depressed but some just don't understand it
@Duvmasta It's hard having depression, I know...for a long time my mom suffered with depression, and it was really hard on me as well. If you ever need to talk, or just someone to listen, message me anytime.
They will hand you pills and appointment cards- send you out to be mocked and called stupid and such- those who dont suicide from ignorance and stigma become hermits as I have done- they dance at the country club and do nothing about cruelty to so called mentally ill- I became better when I tossed most of the pills and saw my mind as creative- not "sick"-
@Amethysting same here, I went for help and told my friends. They all just left when they had no reason to help because the doctors where taking care of me (apparently), which in turn left me alone making any problem I had 1000 times worse.
Read Explaining colours to a blind man. Not only will it enlighten many as to what living with a mental illness is like, it also gives comfort to those sufferers who think there is no hope and that they are alone. It is very informative, sometimes shocking but also very funny in parts. All in all, a good read and highly recommended.
