I'm on your side JayStiff, few years ago drove an TF wannabe (MGF with TF bodykit)

with a 160vvc, went like stink! i found it ver deceiving how fast i was able to come through bends.

Lost it, however, on a roundabout when i flicked it left into a dual carriageway and booted it too early :(

would love to have one for myself (yep, wasn't my car) but finances wont allow it

the mr2 is a knobs car - expensive wannbe "fun" - sold mine (yes i was a knob for buying it) fed up with the so called Toyota reliability and mine had a total history - 101 quid for ht leads etc ? - ha - screw the lot of you who knock the MG, friendly club cheaper parts and value - jap.. never again

Although the MR2 is a great little sports car I'd sooner own my MGF. A car with real heritage, the MK2 MR2 was way to heavy, very nice to drive though. Don't get me wrong, I'm a professional test driver and I love most mid engined cars but the MGF just has that charm and cheekyness you don't get with other makes. I also can't remember any other MR2 owners waving at me when I owned mine, you do with an MGF. My clutch is still hard after 97,000 miles!

For your info, my car is now past 97,000 miles and the head gasket has never gone. If you keep an eye on the resevoir tank and warm them up before going daft they won't go. And I have owned 3 MR2's (one of each MK) and the first suffered head gasket failure and a warped head. All bought from new and pampered. If a car's going to play up its going to play up. My Current MFG was faster than the first and third MR2's and is proving a damn sight less expensive to run.

I have a TF160 Sprint SE and I'm struggling to see how it looks feminine?! To me the TF is one of the best looking cars ever made, big boot for a 2 seater, fast, sounds good. But yes, be very careful in the wet!! :-p

All 2 seater sports cars are so called hairdresses cars, I've heard the MX-5, TT, Z3, Z4, elise and even a S2000 being labelled as such! To me it's just max power lovers that come out with these comments and lets face it they've got a monoploy on bad taste.

Yeah, I've heard some people say it's a girls car, but to me an MX-5 is much more girly than a TF. After I bought a TF 160 (which is a hoot to drive) one of my mates told me only dick-heads drive MGs ... but I'd expect that from him ;-)

They're great cars. Yes, some of the people that bought them were hairdressers, but all good cars have some people that buy them for the wrong reasons. They're a hell of a lot more involving and entertaining than any wrong-wheel drive hatchback will ever be. I have an Elise S1 and some peopel call that a hairdresser's car. They're wrong too! Just because something looks femenine doesn't mean you have to be feminine to buy it!

Thats a lovely constructive post. Thank you for that. I can't imagine what makes it "for a woman". Its mid engined, RWD, has racing brakes, handles corners brilliantly.
