@murattothechosenone The performance was from a VH1 special called "Decades Rock Live" filmed at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City in May 2006. I had the privledge to be in the audience during this concert. Probably the best show I've ever seen. Unfortunately, VH1 has no plans of releasing this on DVD, which is a crying shame in my book...
Fiona Apple may move like a marionette controlled by an epileptic, but oh my god can she sing. I agree with the previous posters, you can tell she is so freaked to be there; her hands flying to her mouth at the end is as endearing as it gets. As great as this is, check out the "I Want You" cover she does with Elvis...if that doesn't give you chills, nothing will.
All Hail the Costello. Imperial Bedroom can cure most emotional issues and Fiona can come over any time! She is COMPLETELY enamored and freaked out when Elvis is rocking it (who wouldn't be??). Check out Fiona singing "I Want You"...mesmerizing in my humble opinion:)
Great song, great performance. Yeah, Fiona's a bit flat at first (poor monitor mix at first?), but once Elvis sings, she's got her bearings & it's on! I love the chemistry. Note the nod from Elvis, once the singing's over and the band's bringing it home. It's like she can't believe she's onstage with him. How can you not love her??
The look that Fiona gives Elvis at 3:19 is timeless. The intensity of the the melody and the lyrics is what makes the 'East Coast' Elvis an icon. Don't be afraid to listen to it twice!
This was a concert at the Hard Rock in Atlantic City for VH1's "Decvades Rock Live" series. I had the lucky opportunity to be there for this show. Greatest 2 hours of my life, I have to say. Fiona totally stole the show from all the other guest stars...
i dont think she's an angry, hateful or bitter woman at all. Music begins where speaking ends. I think her music has helped her through a lot. I wouldnt put it past that she's messed up in the head, But She's a musical genius. She didnt have the best childhood either Listen to some of her interviews. she was raped at the age of 11 i think, in school she was called the dog of the school, while her sister was extremely popular, just do some research on her, u might be suprised what u find out.
I never understood when people say she seems angry and such. Some people write music, or poetry after something big happens in their life. She apparently spent most of her time, writing songs when someone monumental happened in her love life. Just because a lot of those songs are put on on CD does not mean that she is automatically a resentful bitter person. It just means that when she went through her years of writing, she felt those particular songs would be good on a CD.

She seems like a very hateful woman. But she's really good at that concert, havn't really hurt so can say if she's good besides here. I just love her doing "I Want You" :D
This performance makes more explicit than ever a long-time theme of EC's work: the 'Batttle of the Sexes". FA's odd vocal stylings( the stutters, where she breathes and doesn't) only add tension... and not much release. To cabronte: yes, 'I Want You' works in perhaps an even more excruciating way. I don't want to hear it now; I'll save it for a rock postsript to the last mvmt. of Mahler's 9th.
My very fave Elv recording is Imperial Bedroom. I'm so infatuated with Fiona--eyes and voice. I think this is a great coupling. I think that "I Want You" is better but I'll take Fi singing Elvis any day.
Fiona has an amazing voice, it's so husky and powerful. She looks and sounds amazing here. And she should cover more alt. rock type songs, her voice makes them sound like something else.
Umm, Elvis Costello is sharing the stage with her, not the other way around. Don't forget he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when Fiona was working on her 3rd album.
I could see why alot of people wouldn't like the song "...And in every home" since it could come off as a tad pretentious but the song is great and only Costello would have the balls and creativity to write and record that
Elvis sounds constipated and sneery as always, but La Apple is magical. I find the fact this video is tagged with 'glasses' extremely funny, by the way.
In an interview, Paul McCartney said Costello carries a bunch of notebooks around with him, all filled with phrases. Anything interesting he hears people say, he writes down, and a lot of it finds it's way into songs.
It's amazing critics don't take Elvis Costello more seriously. I think Imperial Bedroom is one of the greatest albums of all time. Sometimes works of art come along that are so near perfect it's hard to believe the human race would be capable of creating such beauty. Sorry for being so sappy, but this album has it all: great musicianship, lyrics, and heart-pounding emotion. Too bad most people only know about "Alison" and "EveryDay I write the book".
Agreed. I saw him play a few months back at a Dylan show and people kept shouting for him to play "Peace, Love, and Understanding" and I kept thinking, why? He has so many great songs why keep requesting songs we've all heard a thousand times.
She has been around since 1996, but got known in 1997 when her hit "Criminal" came out. Rather scandelous (sp?) video that got her famous when MTV and VH1 played it. Her lyrics and voice were amazing, but she was mostly known for the videos and (not so) bad public stuff. When her second album (When the Pawn...) came out in 1999, the videos were much different and I guess because she wasn't in her underwear they didn't get much play on tv. Though it is just about the best album ever!! ...
Thank you so much for putting this up. I LOVE YOU!! :) I'd make other requests but I think I'm good with what I got! I love this duet, they need to do more stuff together.
I'm pretty sure it was in 2006 - around May or April. I'm not sure how you can get the whole concert. There were more videos of it here on youtube, but I think many of them have been taken off. Other singers were Death Cab for Cutie and the Armstrong guy from Green Day. If there was a way to buy it, I would like to know too!
we have the Largo In LA and Jon Brion to thank for this!

..another answer is, "Because lots of guitar players do that, especially in old school Country music. He's just part of a long tradition."
