She was saying that she is for predator control, prior to being voted in and still won. We do need animal control and the few farmers in this country will agree with her. In general, most hunters are very concious of wildlife conservation and protection and are very respectful of our wildlife.

Thinning the wolf population in order to compensate for hunting of caribou/moose makes absolutely no sense and is selfish.

Diminishing the population of their prey by hunting will cause the wolves die off naturally (by having fewer prey to hunt and thus starving in the cold), since humans in that case serve the role of a competing predator.

In other words, Palin and the "ecologists" who advocate the bounties on wolf kills are talking out of their asses.

I don't actually care as long as everything it kept in balance. That's really the main thing. I know in texas they have deer hunting to keep the deer under control. what I'm more puzzled is why are people saying that the caribou are dwindling in numbers and that we shouldn't drill there because of it. doesn't sound to me like they are in any danger? at least not from drilling...lol.

Good point - balance is important, I was just saying that balance in this case would come naturally given enough time.

Like Palin mentioned, many Alaskan residents hunt for sustenance; meat is the most practical and cheap food source when the supermarket is a long, dangerous drive through snow away.

However, the real reason for aerial hunting of wolves is to make the game population rise in order to circumnavigate hunting limits. A selfish sort of "less of them, more for us" deal.
