@spikemp violins aren't just something you can just pick up. Believe it or not, most of the instruments Tom does play have stuff in common (hense why he's so brilliant at so many), but the violin is a string instrument and is completely different to most stuff he plays. There are many instruments that are very different to play, so it's stupid to think that he could just pick up any instrument in an instant.

Tom isn't a fucking god of music you know, he's just very talented at what he does.

@cadisaurusrex Tom doesn't play violins. He's not great at bowed instruments in general. He does play drums, but the drums are a very versatile instrument and I don't think his style will suit this record. I will be asking about various other instruments, though!

@akmelza no, actually, I fashioned a soft box out of a high-watt bulb and a sheet of low-grade A4 white paper. It looks a lot darker because there is no light in the background, something I have learned for next time I leave filming a video as late as I did!

you know so much about the process of music making. a lot of people (on utube) seem to just sorta mix things together and get lucky (or not lucky) . u put so much into it. and u can tell by listening.

@scifigeek14 that's certainly not true! Most of the artists on DFTBA Records are aware of the processes of writing, demoing and recording songs! Many of them are excellent producers and multiinstrumentalists themselves, and thus have no need for studios and engineers and friends who play other instruments. Sadly I am not one of those.

@eddplant dear edd. i of course know the DFTBA guys and gals know their stuff.. as well as many other utube artists. i just meant that there are some that just autotune everything and its annoying. (im not trying to knock anyone's art here.... just putting it out there) .

i dont think not being able to play many instraments makes u less than them. because u put so much time and love into your music and it shows. that it what i meant.

Just because people aren't talking about demoing albums doesn't mean they aren't, and just because someone uses autotune doesn't mean they aren't talented! It's not possible to autotune an incredibly complicated sequenced backing track, or guitars, or drums. Autotune is an effect, but it doesn't mask bad vocals. If someone can't sing, autotune will not help them. I didn't suggest I was any less than anyone.
