  • I saw this as a boy at the Odeon in Saint John, NB; early '70's.

  • Frankenstein looks like David Bowie here.

  • I saw this decades ago. Anyone know where I can view the whole movie?

  • my only question is what did frankenstein conquer, he never left japan

  • Frankenstien must be rolling in his grave !!

  • @rickw1100 The movie was actually a great movie.

  • who one baragon or frankenstein and was frankenstein the good guy throughout the movie (I never watched it)

  • Ziggy Stardust at 1:05

  • Is it just me, or did they start playing one of the Mothra Themes early in this trailer?

Also, what color would you say Frankenstein's skin is?

  • @qpboii2k9 and then baragon king kong stared in king kong escapes originally supose to star in godzilla vs the sea monster and kong was replaced with godzilla for marke value or it would be more profitable.

  • is octopus stop motion?

  • @diddymuck nope the tentacles are controlled by wires no stop motion envolved and they did a good job with the octopus.

  • Devid bowie VS Baragon!

  • thanx 4 making this vid. my little bro loves this stuff so much

  • German Title: Frankenstein, der Schrecken mit dem Affengesicht.

one of my first cinema memorys of my life. saw it in the 1960ties as

a teenager. long, log ago. thx for upload. 5*****

  • i didn' like the end of the movie

  • "Strange, he's not Japanese, he's Caucasian." ----Best line in the movie! : )

  • can anyone tell me why the octopus scene was cut from the american version?

  • @Lowrey88 It wasn't even in the Japanese version. The octopus was requested by the American producer, then nobody liked it so they cut it out.

Considering this is the film with a stationary toy horse passed off as the real thing...

  • The main actress in this movie was always the most beautiful of the Toho stars. She even looked good in the Final War movie.

  • I think that Baragon and the Octopus are both from a certain place....

the dark depths of hell. I guess these monsters want him.

    That's my guess.

  • They should've keep the giant octopus in the film,it was more fun that way!

  • I don't get it; did the frankenstein monster die from fighting the devilfish in the original japanese version?

  • That's what's plagued fans for years..did Frankestein die or become something else?

Since War Of The Gargantuas is the sequel to FCTW, there's a ton of theories about how Frankenstein became at least ONE of the Gargantuas.

I think since his heat and brain are immortal, perhaps he lay dormant at ocean's bottom and regenerated into the Green Gargantua, while others think he became the Brown Gargantua (as per his gentle nature.)

One of the great movie monster mysteries of all time..

  • What I mean is: At the end of CONQUERS, did Frank Jr. die fighting the devilfish in the original japanese cut? I remember him being buried in an earthquake as he fought baragon in the version shown here in the states.

  • If my memory serves me right, it's believed that Frankenstein did die at the end of the original Japanese cut, as he most likely drowned underwater.

There's always that unknown variant though, and while some believe he truly died, there are just as many others who think something else happened to him.

  • @Shawnster65 Frankenstein died when the giant octopus pull him on the water and after that the giant octopus eat him but some of his body parts are not eaten by the giant octopus so it regenerate into the green gargantua and his severed hand regenerated into the brown gargantua.

  • Right...the body repaired itself thru absorbing protein-rich plankton, as

the cells were immortal and could regenerate.

Meanwhile, the brain slowly repaired as the heart and circulatory system began rudimentary functions, when the body was finished.

The brain had limited repair thru isolating and absorbing the oxygen molecule in the seawater.

But, Frankenstein's old memory was gone, save for the primal memory of the octopus, and that's why Gaira attacked him.

  • @Shawnster65 I also think Frankenstein's severed hand when he escapes the laboratory was dumped in the forest then shortly after Frankenstein's death the hand regenerated into the brown gargantua but it don't grow fast because there's not much protein foods to be found in the forest but the green gargantua grow fast because it eat fishes in the ocean.

  • The hand died in the movie though, right? Unless the scientists revived it

and allowed the Brown Gargantua to regenerate from the hand in secret without anyone knowing.

Maybe they made up the story about "finding" Brown Gargantua, and they had him all along growing secretly in the lab during the time that Frankenstein escaped.

Right on about Green Gargantua--the ocean gave him lots of protein and he grew much faster. Good call!

  • @Shawnster65 the reason I tell you that the brown gargantua regenerated from the hand because in one of War of the gargantuas video where the green gargantua eats a woman I saw a comment that the hand regenerated into the brown gargantua but I still don't believe so your right.

  • @Shawnster65 and I also think when Frankenstein battle Baragon when Baragon fire some fire breath on him some of his flesh fall off and was left in the forest so maybe after the giant octopus kill him and the humans leave the mountain the flesh regenerated into the brown gargantua and 1 year later some scientist found the child size brown gargantua and take it too the laboratory and while they try to fight the green gargantua it grows and goes back to the mountain with the green gargantua.

  • Very good idea..Brown Gargantua grows from Frankenstein's flesh, and escapes and goes back to the mountains where he meets Green Gargantua, and he continues to grow.

It's possible they knew each other beforehand, because Brown Gargantua rescued the Green one in the movie, it wasn't something they just wrote in the script.

The Gargantuas are more like clones, as they are born from Frankenstein's cells, as they have identical cell structure. Very interesting.

  • I think the Frankenstien creature looks like Michele Obama

  • @cmomgonutz Michele Obama is Dennis Rodman in Drag.

  • The brown was from the hand left in the lab. It regenerated into the mutated brown monster that grew up around people, and grew and Grew and GREW. The green one was the regenerated mutated body of the Frankenstein monster that died underwater. That's why he goes after the octopus right after he is reborn because the brain damage and 'resurrection' of sorts left him with only the primal memory of its killer. First revenge, then FOOD!

  • I feel the same about the green one

and his evolution: he IS Frankenstein.

His body lay dormant in the ocean, and

a survival mechanism caused him to adapt, as he isolated and absorbed the Oxygen molecule in the water, although it wasn't in enough time to save his brain from permanent damage.

He physically changed from being underwater, and as he continued absorbing protein-rich plankton, he became strong enough to arise from the sea at full strength, but lesser mental capacity.

  • You also bring up a good point on the brain damage of the green one...

Universal's Frankenstein monster was brain damaged too, when Igor dropped the brain and replaced it with the "criminal brain."

Naturally the circumstances for the brain damage are different as per the two movies, but the concept of a lesser functioning creature due to brain damage is there as a side coincidence.

  • I might disagree I think that the green monster is created from Frankenstein's cells and the brown one from his hand

  • Some think Frankenstein couldn't have become Gaira because he was too benevolent. But I have a theory:

He was never seen again after being dragged away by the devilfish. Some say he "drowned," while in reality

he MAY have became comatose as his body evolved..that said, he may have suffered brain damage (and therefore personality change) as a result of the lack of oxygen from being underwater.

So yes he IS Frankenstein, but not the one we knew from the first film.

  • The Frankenstein Monster doesn't actually "die". His body/heart survives, and regenerates/mutates into the brown gargantua, while his severed hand regenerates into the green one. Odako gets no love, but he's a kick-ass kaiju. The only monster to ever fight both King Kong AND the Frankenstein Monster, that I'm aware of.

  • Actually if your meaning the Octopus Odako it also faces off with the green gargantuan at the begining of the movie.

  • Right on. He should have had his own movie.

  • Question though-

IF Sanda is Frankenstein, how does this account for the "baby brown Gargantua" that they had in captivity? Frankenstein was already full grown.

The skin was also capable of regeneration\formation into a new being also, right? Could Sanda have been an offshoot of the skin cells of Frankenstein?

    Just a thought.

  • @UniversalHammer when did frankinstein fight king kong?

  • @mrblabby1000 He's talking about the giant Octopus "Odako"that fights "King Kong"in "King Kong vs. Godzilla" and this one with the Frankenstein Monster(at 75 ft tall).

  • @mrblabby1000 he didn't kong was supose to fight him well first godzilla was but then kong was and then baragon did kong was then suppose to star in ebirah horror of the deep but godzilla took that role and thus kong stared in king kong escapes featureing gorosaurus, a serpent, and mechani kong and kong himself i just love kaiju.

  • @UniversalHammer it's not the same octopus

  • @joerouleau54

    it is

  • @UniversalHammer the gargantuas names are gaira the green one and sanda the brown one doesn't odako also fight gaira in the beginning of war of the gargantuas or is that a different giant octopus.

  • Cool, I know that one.

  • now matter what any of you all say this was a good movie and I enjoyed it greatly. the war of the gargantuas was a spin off from this movie.

  • Totally agree with this statement!

FCTW ties in one of horror's greatest legends into the monster genre in way that was truly original and somewhat gruesome as well.

Toho was in their element when they created movies like this, as the weirder they got, the more potential they had for cult status.

FCTW is a very moody, brooding

and surreal piece that plays almost like

a bad dream, and is a film truly apart

from Toho's normal mainstream giant monster movies. Well done!

  • @spudrocker86 i watched this like 5 times and its awsome the fight with baragon is great and nick adam's does a great job just like he did in monster zero. baragon is awsome i don't see how theres at all a problem with this movie it had a good run time the fights were good the paceing was good the actors were great. the film is just good.

  • @spudrocker86 Acordding to imdb is actually a sequel.

  • frankenstein is a mutantion he fight baragon almost ending and he fight's giant octopus named odakko and frankenstein died. and giant octopus killed him in ending.

  • how can I find that version? I can only only find the one where frankenstein is standing there triumphant.

  • And Matango

  • One of Ishiro Honda's and Toho's true masterpieces; along with Gojira (1954), Rodan, War of the Gargantuas, Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964), Ghidorah (1965), Mothra, Dogora and Destroy All Monsters.

  • how could the octopus kill frankenstein rember frankenstein was in the water with the ocean-liner, then vanished under water, think about it

  • how did frank become a giant anyways I have to buy this movie

  • bottom line frankenstien sucks

if he got taken down by a octopus then theres no chance that he would win against Gamera or especially GOdzilla.

  • cool u put the frankensstien vs octopus deleted scene in it dude

  • it was really suppose to be king kong that fought frankenstein and godzilla was suppose to fight baragon

  • Not entirely correct, the King Kong part you are right about, but Godzilla was also originally the monster Frankenstein fought in the original script. They scrapped it because Toho felt Godzilla and Frankenstein fighting together would be too unrealistic and ended up making King Kong Vs. Godzilla instead. Then, they simply replaced Godzilla with Baragon for the Frankenstein movie in the script revisions.

  • why is baragons voice different on this trailer. but in the movie he has varans voice

  • Probably because the trailer was made while it was still filming or being edited and they hadn't settled yet on how Baragon was supposed to sound.

  • who played frankenstein

  • A guy named Koji Furuhata, who never did another movie.

  • is he still alive

  • I would presume so.

  • who do you think would win between baragon and barugon from gamera, the deep freeze monster

  • he dies the director said

  • who died?

  • who do you think would win in a fight between baragon and barugon? barugon is the one from gamera the one who shoots a rainbow from his back

  • Since Baragon is the more popular of the two and has been in more movies, I'd say Baragon.

  • Barugon would destroy Baragon!

He did defeat Gamera and put him out of action in the first part of their battle. With his Rainbow Heat Ray and Freeze Tongue Ray he would destroy Baragon!

Baragon couldnt even do much damage against Frankenstein even with his heat breath!

    And who defeated Frankenstein?

A plain old Giant Octopus what an embarassment for Baragon.

  • the octopus? i thought frankenstein was pulled underground with baragon

  • In the American version he was pulled underground with Baragon. But in the Japanese uncut version hes killed by the Octopus after he breaks Baragons neck. The Octopus drags him in the water and kills him.

  • how were they able to do the two different versions? when he was pulled undergroung with baragon and then killed by octopus? where did the octopus come from and is the same octopus from king kong vs godzilla

  • thats not even what baragon sounds like, he sounds like he dranked beer and have a belching problem

  • As clunky as the plot for Frankenstein Vs. Baragon was, at least it tries to do something a little different with the Japanese giant monster movie genre, which by this point was starting to get more than a little predictable. Believe it or not, this movie originally was going to have Frankenstein battle Godzilla and be released in 1962 before Willis O'Brien's King Kong script came along, but Toho ultimately felt having Frankenstein battle Godzilla lacked realism.

  • I wished they'd left the giant octopus ending in the original release,it was cool!

  • I personally thought the octopus ending was silly. The only good it could have done was provided a more obvious link between Frankenstein Vs. Baragon and its sequel The War Of The Gargantuas.

  • This is well said-if you look at Sanda,

he looks like a direct relative of the Frankenstein monster.

IF my memory serves me right, it was theorized that a piece of Frankie's flesh grew into a whole new creature, (may have been why they found Sanda as a baby) and that the original monster from this movie became Gaira (makes sense since the monster was dragged underwater and never seen again, he could have been dormant and evolved underwater since he really couldn't die.)

    Fun stuff.

  • Shawnster65 i dont agree whit you. In the movie "FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD" at the end, Sueko Togami, who took care of Frankenstei when he was chained, was about to be eaten by Baragon when Frankenstei came to rescue her.

I dont think that Frankenstein could turn from a protector to a killer.

  • how is this movie a sequal to war of the gargantuas explain? it has nothing to do with baragon or frankenstein

  • No, this movie came before The War Of The Gargantuas. Sanda and Gaira were formed from the surviving cells of Frankenstein and in the film's Japanese title, they are both referred to as "Frankenstein's Sons".

  • um i know this movie came before war of the gargantuas. but cinemasacars monster madness said the gargantuas were fighting for frankensteins body parts
