I can't decide, now that I've seen it, whether I've ever actually beaten this game or not. I know I've gotten to world 8 many many times (it's easy with the whistles, so not really an accomplishment), but I was starting to think I hadn't beaten it when I realized I didn't really recognize the last couple challenges. But then I recognize the boss... well, that iteration of Conflict With Bowser. Odd. I should just go beat it and be done with it.

I remember staying over at my friend's house in 90-91, and either playing or watching someone play this game until sometimes 2 or 3 in the morning. They had a huge room in the basement, and we'd always have at least 10 people over. Great memories. Just hearing the music brings me back. Never again will we see a video game as great as Super Mario.

I'm sure you've been asked this before, but how long did it take you to master the game like this? I've been playing it every other year for the past 6 years (I'm 14) and it still takes me almost a week (maybe a few hours every day) to defeat the game.

@Spoonular Yeah, I've been asked this before. I played video games since the age of 9. I learned to play the hard way. No internet, no clues, etc. Played all kind of games, easy ones, difficult ones, different ones with different controls. My ambition was to finish the games I played, so I would often rent games to play them, especially in the week-ends. Didn't play all the time, but the best way to master the controls and play well comes in being relax, know the games, and enjoy every minute :)

@HalDanGhor I agree with not using cheats and being relaxed. The games are no fun if you can't figure it all out on your own - which is why I waited to watch all these videos until after I knew the game very well. As for being relaxed, I have to have easy-listening music in the background to stay calm :P It seems like especially in the ship levels for world 8 it was just a test to see if you could keep your cool long enough. If not, then you'd die over the simplest parts.

@pk22cm Thank you for all your comments buddy! No, I never use any tools. I really don't need them. However, each of those 26 vids were done separately, using a save state at the end of each video, and that's all. So, I could practice some of my play, so the whole run would look greater. In a whole run without doing so, sure I'd lose a couple of lives, but nothing big. Some of my play could have been better, but I am human, and legit. :)

This was great to watch, I learned a HELL of a lot about this game XD Like you can kill fire with a statue, and a nipper shoots fireballs, and so many secrets man, I never knew.

Seen the entire run tonight and i really enjoyed it, however some questions. The Coin ship you summoned in world 1, can you only summon it once or can you make it appear several times?

And about the hidden white mushroom thingy, it didnt appear in World 5-6-7 iirc, how come? You took all the coins in the right levels did you not, or did i miss something?

@laigar Thank you very much!!! The Coin Ship can be summoned in Worlds 1,3,5 and 6, as long as there are still Hammer Brothers on the map, and, of course, some opened Stage to do the coins and points combo. ;)

White Mushroom Houses exist in Worlds 1 to 7 included. However, because I did not remember what Stages were the right ones for the last Worlds, I did not manage to get the other White Houses... No biggy there though. :)
