@yopoke190 I agree. A head voice, at least the operatic one, sounds just as strong as the so-called chest voice. This guy is singing in reinforced falsetto, I believe. Have you used this program? It seems like a scam to me, honestly.
i never knew that there is a head voice, chest voice, falsetto... i thought it was all about opening the mouth and soulfully trying to make different noises until it sound good. now it seems so complicated...
can you teach how to use head voice? i know how to do falsetto and chest etc. but i've never understood how to use head voice, and that's the voice i really wanna learn to use. it sounds great and i think would be perfect for a lot of the music i write. unfortunately i don't have the money for vocal lessons; therefore, i come online to try and find the answer. i have been unsuccessful so for. i hope you or someone can help me soon. thanks
How do you get your head voice to sound so much like your chest? I've been trying to get my voice to sound like this for a long time, and you seem to do so very well at 0:48. Unless that's something else. Regardless, I want to make my voice do that at that note, any tips?
Unfortunately this description of head voice versus falsetto doesn't explain countertenors in opera who are men who sing almost exclusively in their falsetto, but are not breathy by any means.
it may be more difficult to tell with counter tenors, but physiologically the difference is the same, the cords come together with head voice, and they don't come together in falsetto. head voice uses less air, falsetto uses more air. Head voice with training can actually go higher than falsetto because of this physiological difference, with head voice, the opening just gets smaller, but with falsetto, it's quite limited with all that air blowing the cords apart.
@89gerardo You just possibly need more practice for not the falsetto or head voice to get into an "ugly distorted vocal fry"... It happens to me alot, but when it happens, I just drink some water with room temperature... If it still happens, I usualy drink a bit of lemon juice, not too much, to get the voice "lighter"... Always remember to eat lightly before practicing, and to practice only like 3 hours after your meal!
Bass/Bass-baritone here, still trying to figure out how to not go into falsetto when reaching a high G. Though the note is hit so briefly in the song only once, so one falsetto note might not throw the whole thing off.
to do it properly, it is made by a vocal fry and then add more air like a "breathy vocal fry"?sometimes i can do it but i am confused, i dont find the logic because i know that for example the head voice is pressure with less air and the falsetto it is with more air and less vocal cord closure and less pressure, but it is possible(to do the vocal fry scream)apply more vocal cord closure and at the same time add MORE air?(2 opposite things)
@XxSomeonePersonXX It's the sound you make when you say "ng", it takes pressure off the chest voice. See his video "Connecting Chest and Head Voice". He explains a little bit of the "ng" sound. The "ng" sound is pronounced kinda like "ing"
@XxSomeonePersonXX Pharyngeal is kinda like the connector in between head and chest voice that nose reasonce thingh you can kinda say your voice is divided into three gears head mix chest , 1,2 and 3 gear, usally most people havn't learned there is a second gear and therefore a break most of the time the phyrangeal has the job of connection gear 1 and 3 so the voice won't break, or if you prefer the cars runs out of gas and stops, hope it helps.
there is this video of a guy singing warming up i need some help to know if it is head or falsetto it would make me understand will someone help me :) i will show you the video
@MeeAndChicken He is singing in the mix. I can also do it. He is using the mix voice. Try singing scale from your low register to your higher register but without screaming or increasing the power and volume. Try to connnect the voices without breaking or cracking. Try first doing that with tongue trill or lip roll ;)
@distortionxoverdrive No. If you go by Brett's definition of falsetto, of course girls can do that too. It's just that girls have a 'longer' range of headvoice (and their speaking voice is often near to or in headvoice) so it's easier for them to connect into 'headvoice', without the whispery sound characteristic of falsetto
@dachampishea He sings in trained headvoice. Countertenors work to make the sound very strong and supported, and work to bring down th headvoice, so that they can sing low notes as a woman would.
@OfficialNickNakama Head voice is out of the chest. The vibration can be felt in the top of the head, and not the chest. Head as connection and cord closure.
Falsetto is more breathy has "Hissss" and can go into whisper. Brett's explanation is pretty clear here. If you listen to other vids on the subject, or better yet test the two voices in your own body, it will make more sense.
I always rely on my spectrogram to help me determine whether I am singing in head voice or falsetto. It was interesting to watch Brett's spectral analysis when he was flipping from head to falsetto. There was a noticeable difference, it was like he lost a lot of his formants when he flipped to falsetto.
@marisolmongelosm It is a spectral analysis tool that shows you the note your a singing along with the formants in your voice and at what intensity. The singer's formant (2500 - 3000 Hz range) is what is considered sufficient to be heard over an orchestra. In falsetto you wouldn't be able to get that kind of frequency response. Go look at my "Crazy" song by Patsy Cline on my videos to see what I am talking about.
After watching more than 20 of these videos, I still wonder what the groundbreaking vocal tip that can't be found on youtube is

Sorry but you are showing a falsetto voice when explaining head voice. A head voice is modular and has volume. The blend was correct, however.
