@mmafyasco Monson is a great fighter and no matte whom he fights he will oppose problems to him. I am not saying Fedor should be raised to the sky for beating Monson of course because most of his PRIDE FC opponents were much much better than Monson(including some of them beating Monson), but that doesn't make this victory of Fedor "irrelevant" it just makes it less impressive than his past wins.
Especially when we consider that Fedor's out of prime today, this was great win IMO.

Cormier will never be a force at the elite level of heavyweight. His size and inexperience in striking will hold him back and this fight is a good example of this. He couldn't finish Monson because he has decent striking defense with a grappling base. Monson himself is held back at heavyweight for that very reason and should go down to lhwt. That wouldn't be a bad idea for Cormier either. Cormier has no chance at winning the Strikeforce GP as long as Silva/Barnett are in front of him.

I am not saying Fedor should be raised to the sky for beating Monson of course because most of his PRIDE FC opponents were much much better than Monson(including some of them beating Monson), but that doesn't make this victory of Fedor "irrelevant" it just makes it less impressive than his past wins.

@secutorclaudius yes, but Cormier is a much more studied pupil of wrestling than Monson. not to disrespect Monson who himself was a PAC-10 champion, but Cormier trained in wrestling while Monson went on to study jiu jitsu and submission wrestling.
he is a higher caliber of wrestler than Monson and probably the entire heavyweight division. he also is comparatively short than most HW's which gives him lower center of gravity increasing the difficulty to take him down.

Cormier will never be a force at the elite level of heavyweight. His size and inexperience in striking will hold him back and this fight is a good example of this. He couldn't finish Monson because he has decent striking defense with a grappling base. Monson himself is held back at heavyweight for that very reason and should go down to lhwt. That wouldn't be a bad idea for Cormier either. Cormier has no chance at winning the Strikeforce GP as long as Silva/Barnett are in front of him.
