I WENT TO ATS 6 YEARS AGO AND PLEASE LISTEN TO ME DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY.the best way to get into this field is to just start out as a laborer and work your way up.trust me there is a very small chance you will be hired to be a operator because 9 weeks is nothing as far as seat time goes. there job placement is just a list of a bunch of company in each state, not much of a help.i stayed in contact with my 20 classmates and i think maybe 5 of us stuck to it and actually got jobs.save your 12,500!!
I have to say that its a false statment to say that when a student graduates there will not be a job that they couldnt do. 2 weeks isnt going to be enough time to put someone in the seat of the equipment or a few machines and be able to hold a job. At best they could spend couple weeks in a loader. but loader opearators are a dime a dozen.
It really sucks so bad that ATS only caters to the needs of U.S residents and citizens , i called ATS hoping to get access to this school cuz my home country doesn't have any such facilities . i'm from the caribbean and i wish to become a heavy equipment operator and don't mind traveling to the u.s to get proper training , can someone out there please give sum advice ? All these schools that i've checked out only seem to cater only for u.s citizens , just sucks!!
Ive been doing heavy equipment for awhile good luck getting a job anywhere after just taking a heavy equipment operator course. You need at least 3-5 years experience getting a job anywhere.
We offer a school in Wisconsin which provides housing assistance while you attend training. I'm sorry that we are not located in Indiana. If you have further question or details regarding housing please call us at (800) 383-7364. Thanks, Andy.
First grader I operated was an Austin-Western master 99,four wheels drive, four wheels steering. Also I operated 2 Caterpillar d-6 dozers with those "pups" to warm-up the main engine.....I was 6 years old in 1968 and I think that if I could do it at that age, anyone could do it. The bonus was the machines belonged to my Grand-father. he was a road builder in the 50's.
please i have always wanted to operate a cat as a career and well i just don't want to have to leave my family to do this i am located in Coquille Oregon is there any where close i can go to get training and how much would something like this cost i have no maney and i have been unimployed for almost a year i am getting to the point where i feel like i am worthless and that is not who i am i work hard at everything and always have please contact me thanks.

@FrenchyDuckbill You could try OETIO.They have a campus in Oakville which are specialized in cranes and the other campus is in Morrisburg which has backhoe, excavator, dozer, grader and amenities on 165 acres of water front along the St. Lawrence which I will go for a grader operator course (6 weeks course).
@FrenchyDuckbill still sucks theres work but not like it use to be not a lot of dirt work mostley highway work, so since theres not a lot of dirt work means the big eqipment is siting at the yards lucky my companie got a good work load all 300 + peices of eqipment are out there working. but it is geting better out there more people are starting to put jobs out for bid also depends on where u live u will get laid of in the winter here in pa we will be geting laid off around chrismass time
I'm currently hiring new operators, and for everyone who sees this and thinks its a great idea, just remember, the minimal seat time you'd get going to this school is nowhere near enough to call yourself an operator. Just because you know how to run it safely, doesn't mean you know jack shit on the site. I never hire these kids.
Training gets more and more important! The technology in the machines are more advanced today with GPS control systems etc. Employers also demands operators with high cost-efficiency. Decreasing fuel consumption and wear&tear, and at the same time - increased productivity...!
at work i operate 03 john deer 270 and a hyandi 130.....Now that cats are all backwords arent they, im thinkin about taken a course here in november 8 for excavator....Im just scared that they will have all cats and all my controles will be backwords, i heard its easy to switch....you think they will have them set up for both ways?? Thanks...
Hey Nick - Thank you for contacting us. Depending on location you are interested in, the equipment will be different. At each location we offer few excavators and so you should be able to operate either way. If you want to stick with what you are use to then we will let you do that. I hope this answers your question about the controls if not please give us a call and we will be able to answer in details. Thank you again, ATS.

Job market is great. We offer career assistance and it places about 85% of graduates.
