Hey, DUFUS, get to the point, quit your idiot attempts at humor, and tell us whats wrong with a high sales tax. No country on earth taxes new houses or medical cost a high sales tax. ANd you morons, you cant have govt paying itself a high sales tax, you idiots.
Quasi intelectuals like you never cease to amaze me! Consider the fact that most low to middle income americans by used cars, existing homes and other previously owned items and would not be taxed at all, consumption tax, get it dumbass!! And everyone would receive a prebate of the taxes they would spend up to the poverty level, novel idea detax the poor. The Fairtax is a fantastic way to improve America and get the government out of our private lives.
You've got it all wrong. Fairtax actually saves a home buyer money. Currently, we pay a lot of hidden taxes in the purchase of a home like payroll tax for example... it is just figured into the price of the home, and we don't get to deduct it or anything. Also, the government taxes the lender, so the lenders up the interest rate... under fairtax, payroll tax and that interest rate tax is gone - so the price of the house is roughly the same, but the interest rate is lower.
Bravo! I'm glad soemone thinks the Fair Tax is a bad idea. The strength of our economy is determined by consumer spending and if you increase taxes on consumer spending by 25%, it doesn't take a genius to see that our economy is going down the toilet. I recommend Fred Thompson's and Ron Paul's plan of going to a Flat Tax and then reduce federal spending so the Flat Tax rate could be reduced.
Brak2002, You dont know much about taxes & you do not know anything about the FairTax, like this Chris guy on the Video. We have had a Flat Tax before in 1987 and look where it is now. If we get it again, in 20 years we will be pushing for the Flat Tax again & again. FairTax is 23% noy 25%. Get it right. FairTax is the way to go.
Oh I'm sorry I was off by 2%. My bad! I live in Florida so I'm going to have to add another 6% anyways so I guess I should have said a 29% sales tax. Why don't we just cut spending so we can cut taxes instead trying to implement a new system of taxation? The reason why Huckabee supports the Fair tax, like so many Liberals do, is that it will actually increase government revenue from taxes so Washington can spend more of my money for their costly special interests.
Finally, I think America needs a tax on consumption. We are never going to stop spending money regardless, but maybe a consumption tax would force Americans to look at the big picture and start spending a little less and saving a little more.
$11,629.20 dollars were withheld from me for federal taxation. Under the fair tax, I would have that in my pocket to spend, plus a $458.00 monthly prebate, which equals $5,497.00 dollars in prebates annually to cover the "Fair Tax" on necessary consumables.
Furthermore, we know that it costs American tax payers 250 billion dollars a year just to pay the IRS to take our money. In addition, we know that American tax payers pay anywhere from $50-$1,000 dollars annually to have their taxes prepared.
They're actually already in place, only they're not federal. Most states already have a sales tax system in place, so Fairtax relies on the states' already established expertise and manpower to collect these taxes (and keep businesses accountable). In most cases for these states, its simply a matter of just increasing the tax rate.
Regardless of that, we know that the 11-20 million illegal aliens are not paying taxes as well as the underground business world (prostitutes, pimps, drug dealers, organized crime, etc.). Under the Fair Tax, they would pay whenever they buy something. Under a flat tax, only legal citizens who follow the laws pay taxes.
Our country has been keeping track of consumer spending for years. We know what Americans spend annually and it would not be hard to figure out what our revenue from consumer taxation would be.
Actually, for the most part, people in the lower income levels are there because they have a habit of spending all their money... Fairtax actually puts more money in the hands of these people... therefore, they'll be spending more money than before... which only helps our economy (since it is inadequately gaged by consumer spending).

I am glad the Flat Tax is supported by such well-spoken, thoughtful points of light.

Check out the scorecard, you'll see that very few liberals endorse Fairtax.

Do you know there federal agents are going to be required to enforce the Fair Tax just like in the IRS? That costs money too!
