Hi, Thank you for posting this. Can i buy this video recording from you. I would very much appreciate it. Love it. Please let me know how much and i will be happy to pay for the recording.
I don't think he was meaning to mix religion and music. He just stated was was true. Tradition wise, what he said is absolutely true. There is still goodness in the world. Relax.
USTAD title goes for muslim's, its pandit if ur a hindu. Just like Ustad Zakir hussain, hence it would be pandit srinivas. but nobody calls him pandit srinivas, just mandolin srinivas =)
You have to be a master on the sitar to do this kind of things. it is very risky in front of an audience, and very complex to follow a different instrument.
Consider the actual distance traveled to play the patterns on each respective instrument. The mandolin has a very small space. Ustadji has the whole sitar length. Speed for speed MAYBE Srinivas is faster. But speed on the respective instrument has to go to Ustadji. Watch his whole arm move verses Srinivas's fingers. This is just a thought that arose while I was watching this. Anyhow, each is a MASTER and
have all my respect. Their dedicated riyaz clearly shows.
The stiffness of mandolin string is about three times higher than those on the sitar. Shrinivas also uses extra heavy gague strings to help with tone and sustain. In the end both instruments present same level of difficulty in playing.
@anaughty Do you know anything about music? Big balls??....WTF? Please don't comment on something you clearly have no knowledge about. The guy in the middle is Ustad Zakir Hussain and he plays the Tabla (North Indian Drum). There, I just added a little more to your knowledge. If you have anymore questions, please Msg me.
Srinivas is the one who started the use of mandolin in the south indian classical. Now it is accepted universally. As for a title, he is more than Ud. Vilayat Khan for sitar, for indian mandolin.
Jugalbandi is a royal-court circus that perhaps once featured between cock-fights and mall-yudh. Shrinivas has come down from a lofty seagull to a fighting-cock, thanks to this format, and this piece shows nothing of Shahid's genius.
Very nice, its a bit unfair with Srinavas's amp being alot louder than Ustad ji's. I would love to hear that last bit without the audience clapping. Please please post more if you have. Peace

dont be silly. there is no religion discrimination here. it is the way it is. Pandit if you are hindu, ustad if muslim.

I've heard shrinivas for more than a decade and i am sure he needs something higher than ustad or pandit for a title.

in all such concerts shrinivas ends up being the lead artist. same is noticed in his album with ustad sultan khan.
