  • How do you mess up a harmonica? I don't understand. I just bought a 5 dollar one. Music store is out of my way but I'll still go if it breaks.

  • @sker214 no point in customising a 5 dollar harp anyway, and you mess it up by overmanipulating the reeds mainly, but also by breaking the seal around the reed chambers.

  • Phew Jase. I've been playing for years and your demonstration of putting the harp way back in the mouth is a breakthrough for me - an immediate difference, and my tone wasn't bad before. I've been to lots of workshops and noone has put that across like you just did for me. OK, I should have been able to work it out for myself, but I didn't - nnnng!

Must get you over for the EBA Blues Week in Northampton, UK one of these years! Many many thanks :-)

  • Hi,

awesome lessons! Thanks so much for sharing the knowledge.

I was wondering where the first part of this lesson is..

  • holy moly! that fast zhit at the end is hot.

  • I loved your talk about the reason why you don't make videos on customizing harps. People always want to get stuff for free. If they want to learn the basics via Youtube they can via Dave Payne. If you really want to learn an art it is best to learn it in person the way you did (part of the dues you paid literally with time and money). I hear the Rupert Oysler DVD's are totally worth the 55 bucks. I plan to eventually buy mine from Dave Payne so he gets a cut rather than Coast2Coast Music.

  • Your lessons actually made me want to find my old harmonica I got for christmas a few years ago and start seriously learning how to play it. Thanks a lot for the best lesson I could ever possibly find on the internet, I'll probably be replaying it a few times, even if just to hear you playing! :)

  • Ji I have a really hard time too! But listen to Dennis Gruenling, Kim, or mitch Kashmar for some beautiful examples of it's actuality.

  • Thank you for your answer. I think if I'll live until 140 years old, I'll maby be able to pratice Harmonica like you ( I'm 50) !

I'll look for those players on the web.

Thank you again and hope you'll play over 140 years to and continue to play in your amazing way !
