A "Rock Anthem", nothing else truly describes this masterpiece. The amazing thing is it never got the attention it richly deserved when it was first released. Kansas is top shelf, unique, and nobody else quite like them. They possess every atttribute of class in the music industry are are truly timeless.
Kansas was true American progressive rock. The motifs, the themes, the melodies and harmonies all communicate American exploration, adventure and sensibilities. American idealism and misadventure. A land of grand contradictions. Hats off to Kansas. I was in Junior High when this came out. Yes, drummer Phil Ehart was always solidly there for the music. He easily navigated the rhythms but never strove for a stand out voice. His signature is in the nature of his support.
