  • Isn't sulfer useless? If so, why is there so much of it in gunpowder?

  • there is a misnomer that sulphur smells. actually its odourless, only when its in the form of hydrogen sulphide is when it smells of rotting eggs

  • HIS FRIZZY HAIR IS A RESULT OF CHEMICAL EXPOSURE OVER MANYYEARS

  • I like his coffee mug! The periodic table is on his coffee mug, and his tie. I want to get one of those coffee mugs. That's pretty cool. I do have the periodic table of elements memorized though. It's easy to learn, especially if you know isotopes. That makes it much easier to remember the periodic table, if you want to remember it by heart. Anyways, sulfur can smell quite pungent, but many elements do, especially when they react with the air. Tellurium, Osmium, or even Silver are some examples.

  • does someone noticed that his tie is the periodic table? haha

  • Note the typo on the label @0:03!

  • I love that guys hair it's EPIC

  • i see "suphur" @0:02

  • It's spelled both ways. Just like Cesium and Caesium.

  • solojam is wrong

  • 0:32 i don't think he told his wife hah

  • when u fart u release sulphur gas, no shit! lol

  • thats actually hydrogen sulfide.

  • @hash1212 yep, u can distinguish it cuz it smells like shit

  • No, you release hydrogen sulphide.

  • technically still releasing sulphur just not pure

  • Its not sulphur gas though, that being elemental sulphur in the gas phase. So technically you are still wrong.

  • na still sulphur

  • Yes, it is, because it isn't sulphur gas, but hydrogen sulphide!

  • lol we are learing anout elements in class rofl it suks but sulfur is my fav. element >:D

  • Lol, the bottle at the beginning said "Suphur"

  • Sulfur and cheese in your eyes ain't nice...

  • I love the Professor's hair!

  • woohoo yeh go afro hair

  • i like his tie

  • and the mug

  • I still prefer sulphur, anyway still a great video!

  • ¿ɹɐɾ ǝɥʇ uo ɹnɥdns ʎɐs ʇı sǝop ʎɥʍ

  • Sulpher ? :/

  • notice that they like saying sulphur twice!

  • I love how the glass in the beginning says "Suphur" without the l :D

  • i didnt notice that

  • Ye and what about the smell eh?? HAHA!

  • Yay, time to make some Pyrite =)

  • I'm sorry, but this was not particularly informative as far as S reacting to other elements. Why is S used in tire rubber? Why is it needed for gunpowder? Why will its presence in steel cause the metal to be brittle? Why in certain cases does S cause metal to be more machinable? Is it poisonous? Are there traces of S in a typical human diet?

  • they can't really talk about all of those. they are more about the chemistry aspect of the elements, not it's industrial uses.

  • Chap with fluffy hair has a Periodic Table tie.

  • " Chap with fluffy hair has a Periodic Table tie."

He has two versions of that tie, one of which was featured in a previous video.

  • he has four periodic table ties now, and they will be featuring across the elements... keep an eye out for them! ;)

  • "he has four periodic table ties now..."

If you guys ever have "merchandise", now you know what to include.. =)

  • I want one of those ties!

  • honestly, I just spent ages looking for "periodic table SULPHUR" only to find we have gone all american on the spelling. Could we tag this video with the English spelling as well?

Are the scientists all using the US spelling now?

  • spelling of element 16 was adopted to be "sulfur" by the iupac in 1990

it's not particularly the "us" spelling any more

    but rather, the iupac spelling

  • I'm surprised you are talking about the PH versus the F when the biggest error in the label is that it's missing an L. :D

  • check the bottle when the 1st talk about sulphur. its spelt wrong. and they call themselves scientist.

  • well spotted... though you didn't spot that this was discussed in the commentary about a month ago! :)

I'm sure the label was not created by anyone from the POTV team, of course.

  • haha thats the first thing I noticed.

  • about showing sulfur formation near volcanoes. lots of sulfur in my city.. (live close to volcanoes here)

  • if u breath in sulfur does it sting

  • This explains a lot about the surface of the moon Io.

  • i burnt sulpher once and sniffed the smoke , i nearly died

  • genius

  • LOL!

  • Sulfur has a bad reputation for smelling up the joint and being a rough character. I mean, H2O is just fine, and we all enjoy a glass now and then. But H2S? It'll kill you as soon as look at you. Go down one row on the table and suddenly you're in a bad neighborhood.

  • Add four oxygen to H2S and lookout!

  • what the heck is "suphur"

  • Sulphur is the correct spelling.

  • Depends on what part of the world you live in.

  • Sulphur is the correct spelling.

  • I tend to use "PH" and that spelling has doubtless been around longer. The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry which decides "official" element spellings has opted for the "F" so I went with that for the title of this video. All this aside, the sample label in the video is more seriously mispelled as the original contributor was probably noting!

  • Thanks for the inphormation. :)

  • Sulfur is used to vulcanize rubber, as well.

  • mmm, interesting
