He's really cramped in the box, so no there is not enough air for 10 minutes, realize that 80-90% of the box is filled with a human that takes in oxygen and replaces it with nitrogen, that would cause him to die once his heart requires more oxygen and is forced to take in nitrogen. SO, he has to have those few times he breathes in and find out how to hold it without dying.

I’m not surprised that he didn’t break the record, as it was clearly not a case of someone holding their breath for 10 mins.

It’s actually not as hard as one would think. Back in 99 I wanted to snorkel off the Barrier Reef in Oz, & trained holding my breath. I got it up to 3 mins, just over a 6 month period. Obviously, if Ur not moving, Ur not using as much O2, so can sustain it for much longer.

Incidentally, it cured me of chronic long-term asthma. :)
