Continuing on that. I also think religions should NOT be forced to utilize their buildings for civil unions. There just needs to be a clear distinction between civil union and marriage. A much more literal meaning of (though I hate to use) separate but equal. Distinct but equal. I think this would make both sides happy. When it comes to the Bible, I feel that there is still questions as to its validity. Ultimately, nothing has been proven that Christ existed. Caiaphas existed, yes, but Christ "could have" been a product of "historical fiction," set in real places, real times, but with a fictional character.
As for the BoM, what would prove its validity? The cities mentioned, probably. If we found cities, we would know Smith was acting on revelation. FAITH would not be tested, however, making faith pointless

I would just like to point out that the ACTUAL SCRIPTURAL citation in the Book of Mormon, Jacob 2:27-30 states that the Lord mandates ONE man for ONE woman, UNLESS the Lord wants to "raise up seed unto me." Hence, Jacob had some extra wives, which resulted in the 13 tribes of Israel. This is also why Solomon was NOT allowed to have the thousand wives he had. It was not authorized.
I've been through four different religions and their practices in my lifetime so far, and with Mormon, I've always had a weird feeling with the church of LDS. I respect them of course. Just to satisfy my curiosity, there's a flaw in every religion that we all should question, but Mormon most likely is one that I question most.

I actually think that the Mormonism is essentially a Christian religion. I also think it displays numerous hallmarks of a cult:
1. It is run in a hierarchical, top-down way. Local and regional leadership has limited power. Leaders are not accountable to the people they are responsible for.
2. Obedience is expected; there is little room for criticism of leaders' pronouncements.
3. Members are withheld various privileges and "blessings" when they do not give a minimum amount of money.
If you want to blame someone, blame the Gay marriage poster child San Fransisco Mayer Gavin Newsom, who single-handily gave the victory to prop 8 supporters on a silver platter by running his mouth. The often aired "whether you like it or not" TV add is what sold California and the USA 37+ states already have a constitutional amendment against gay marriage. To the rest of the US, this is not a big deal; in the eyes of the everyday non-progressive American, Cali is now just like most of the USA.

I've thought, since the passing of Prop 8, that going only this way or that, marriage or not, is not the answer. We have needed to come up with some sort of compromise. That's what our constitution is built off of anyway. But, I was thinking, give gays their civil rights, like hospital visitations, etc., but don't call it Marriage!

A much more literal meaning of (though I hate to use) separate but equal. Distinct but equal. I think this would make both sides happy. When it comes to the Bible, I feel that there is still questions as to its validity. Ultimately, nothing has been proven that Christ existed. Caiaphas existed, yes, but Christ "could have" been a product of "historical fiction," set in real places, real times, but with a fictional character.
As for the BoM, what would prove its validity? The cities mentioned, probably. If we found cities, we would know Smith was acting on revelation. FAITH would not be tested, however, making faith pointless

There are so many inaccuracies in this video, it's rather sad. I would just like to point out that the ACTUAL SCRIPTURAL citation in the Book of Mormon, Jacob 2:27-30 states that the Lord mandates ONE man for ONE woman, UNLESS the Lord wants to "raise up seed unto me." Hence, Jacob had some extra wives, which resulted in the 13 tribes of Israel. This is also why Solomon was NOT allowed to have the thousand wives he had. It was not authorized.

1. It is run in a hierarchical, top-down way. Local and regional leadership has limited power. Leaders are not accountable to the people they are responsible for.
