So how's the reliability so far on the 3900 engine? My '05 Impala's 3800 was really reliable. Got 210k out of it..then oil sending thingy popped and drained before the light came on - damn. Anyway, just got a '09 3.9L Impala!
@90Mrknowitall Send proof of that to Motortrend, and Car and Driver. According to them, the 3.5L takes 8.6 sec 0-60, while the 3.9L takes 7.5 sec. Then there's the 2007 police car comparo, which has another 3900 engine for the Impala that they document as 7.5 sec as well. Unless someone who owned your car before modded it, I'd like to get your luck in having a smaller engine kick butt like that. 7.2 is pretty nice.
@Thilindel the reason why MT and motorweek got 8.6 is because of either 2 things(higher elivation or they had the A/C runiing) come check out my vids my impala 3.5 does 0 to 60 in 7.2 sec with A/C off on a flat surface and down here in the south our elivation is below sea level wich explains alot the slowest time i have on my vids of my car is 8.1 and that because i had the A/C on i got 11 vids of my 3.5 up on my channel for proof and none of them were" DOWN HILL" i swear bought it as a rental.
@Thilindel one more thing, word of advice. NEVER take thier word for performance because it varys and i dont think anybody modded it up as for as my knowledge goes all i had don was a simple oil chance and new filters
i have black 06 monte carlo ltz wondered what u know about sparkplugs good performance cold air intake and stuff to increase torgue?would it be smart to put e3 bosch platium spark plugs, cold air intake with electric fan in it to push more air in it?
I just bought the 2006 LT today, 3.5V6,,i couldnt find a cold air either so im getting the short ram intake, as their is not much room for the full rod. hopefully with all the monthly payments i can get the dynaflow and magnaflow not too far from now, the short ram i got it in a deal for 125.00$(canadian),,post a vid soon wen i get the car decked out. for now if anyone wants a sunfire 2000 let me know(as seen in my videos here).
HEY guys i have an o7 lt 3.5 v6 monte carlo... and its making a weird noise like a slight robotoic high pitched noise when i accelerate do you have the same prob? if so you know wat it could b? im trying to get a vid footage on here.. thanks
I've had several Chevy's and I currently own a Trailblazer... Its hard to say for sure but I would check your alternator, belt and pulleys. Knowing GM cars I'd say your alternator is probably going bad, my cars have all had that replaced at some point it starts as a high pitch sound only audible inside the car then gets worse until it dies and your battery doesn't get charged anymore... If you notice your head lights are dim or it isn't starting as fast as before take it in or test it yourself.
my Acura tl-APSEC deos it in stock form of 0-60 5.7 and 1/4 mile of 14.1 STOCK. if u know a j32 motor it responds really well to bolt ons. mine isnt stock cai, exhaust and j pipe. i can run 13.6 1/4 mile budyour car stock with 5.3 liters should smoke nmy car causeofthe size of the engine. imnot saying your car is terrible by any means but in comparison i dont think so. besides nomatter what you do you still have a GM= Government MOTORS
Government Motors? seriously, your beating a dead horse. i've heard that so much its sooooooo old... plus, the camaro was created BEFORE the whole bailout bullshit. but yeah, stock, my impala would beat you. all i got to do is CAI and exhaust and i'd take you with ease. and if i put radials on my car, id be like 13 flat. i really do like the 04-08 TL a lot. i hate the new ones tho. i just want a V8. yeah V6's are fast and all but they sound so damn boring. i love the deep rumbling sound of a V8.
@milo814 Sorry, but your V6 Impala/Monte will not hit 13 flat with a CAI, exhaust and radials. You can hope for high 14's at best. 13 second cars are reserved for supercharged v6's, turbocharged v6's, and the v8's.
@Quatermain98526 i don't have a v6 impala. i have the 5.3 v8 ss. i will do 14.2 w/ a perfect 5.6 second launch. i have since gotten better tires which have definitely helped the acceleration. i guarantee with no work done (other than new tires) i could easily hit high 13's. if i did CAI and Exhaust that would be knocked down even further.
sts turbo...that's what im doing to my 06 3.5l 1LT Impala in a few months....no engine mods needed, just hook it upin place of ur exhaust and intake and feel the power lol. if u've got the 3.9l V6, then 3-5psi should get u right at 300hp at the crank, maybe at the wheels. $2000 tho for the universal kit. But the stock engine should be able to handle up to 9-10psi, which would put u around 350-375hp...much better than SS models at 303hp
i dont think anyone has actually tried to tune these PCM's. I hope they are not hard to crack, cuz im getting the STS turbo kit for my 3.5l V6 Impala in a few months and id really like to be able to get it tuned lol.
Gotta use your ears too Sideburns2009. The sound of his open throttle starts at 0:03 seconds and hits 60mph at 0:11 seconds. Mines from 0:42 to 0:50, that makes our runs even. I need to update my run cuz I added more mods to it.
Man that was a nice run... I have a 3.5 liter Monte Carlo LT 06, and I get from 0-60 mph in first gear..didn't know why yours changed to second at 50mph???
I have the 5.3 is well but I respect a fast car and this is a fast car like brown said considering the weight of our Montes!! Sounds good as well! Lets get it tuned, intake and exhaust and eat up on some rice!!
i just posted my 0-60 video of my monte carlo, ive looked all over the place for a cold air intake but cant find one for my 06 monte carlo. do you know where i can find one?
good video man. 0-60 in just over 6 seconds. Very nice. :)

0-60 in about 7 seconds, 0-100 in about 20 seconds. Not too bad for a V6

my 94 sunbird 3.1 is much quicker than this. that modification you did to air box slowed it down. for sure

pureadrenaline25 2 years ago
lol you win? doubt it. the 3.5 is only capable of 5.5 to 60. my impala can do it in 5.4. with the 3.2 your doing 6+ seconds to 60.

its a K&N cone on the stock tubing, i just left the other half of the stock box in place that covers the PCM so the cone sits inside of it.

you dont count the brake torque that is pre-launch as the 0-60. The car begins moving at 4seconds.
sideburns2009 3 years ago
There's no brake torque bud. This is getting old, I'm done here.
Impala3lt 3 years ago
Right thats why the car revs but doesnt go anywhere, cuz there was no brake torque. Ur just mad.
