  • Tho cherrypick passages of the Bible to justify your political views is despicable.

  • Dave Barton once wanted to "bind" orphans and homeless people to corporations.

  • What's so incredibly ridiculous about this is that the idea of a capitalist society was created by pagans and was rejected by the Hebrews (who were the only ones that believed in the idea of a single god at that time). They also rejected the idea of admiration for the human body, Nakedness, Perfume, cosmetics, and Materialism. The idea of a minimum wage hadn't been invented yet.

  • ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. nuttery. and people atually sit there listen and clap to this bs. . In America? Ha ha h ah ha ha ha. No wonder we are snking and other nations are taking over. Now how do we disengage the stupid button.

  • I am horrified by the Scripture twisting Barton engages in in this video. He grossly misinterprets the Bible and puts things in the wrong context. If you think he is making good points, pick up your Bible and really read it.

  • And on that day, many will say to me "Lord, Lord, did we not fight the minimum wage and fought capital gain taxes for you" and I will say to them, "Depart from me, you doers of iniquity".

  • James 5:1 Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. 2 Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. 3 Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. 4 Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty.

  • 5 You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. 6 You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.

  • In re: loans, the christian bible disallows charging interest to the poor on money borrowed. However, the Hebrews allowed for usury, so the Jews succeeded at banking and business, which lead to the term 'the moneychangers'.

  • Ish. I hate when the whole thing isn't shown..... it makes the presenters of the video look like they might not be honest. Not saying that they are-but it makes it look like they might not be.

  • Jesus Christ Almighty! This is why this idiot thinks Church and Government were what the Founders wanted? That was total brainwashing dogma.

  • If what he's saying is true, then Herman Cain was wrong that Islam is the only religion that is deeply integrated into state's affairs. Time to eradicate this disease.

P.S. Wasn't the same Bible interpretation that suggested raping a 12-year-old black slave while her mother and father shackled in the next room was not considered adultery?

  • This is the craziest thing I have heard for a long time-so Jesus wants the poor to be even more poor & the rich to be richer-does this guy get paid to spout this evil bile?

  • LOL, yah jesus was pro slavery.... you rightwing nuts are all just precious snow flakes. At this point, I actually am embarrassed for the wilful brainwashing you guys submit yourself to everyday.

  • Oh, yes, and since the Bible clearly espoused a government that also permitted freedom of religion, freedom of speech, a fair and speedy trial, and representation through the right to vote for all citizens regardless of faith, skin color or income level, we should definitely accept the type of taxation system it proposed, too. Right.

  • Why would anyone want to pay someone a wage they can live on? That's crazy talk

  • I am sure Jesus would not like the Federal Reserve ( private bank ) either

  • I do not care in the least what the Bible says about anything let alone the tax laws in the US. This guy is ruining America.

  • What kind of dumb hillbilly would you have to be to believe any of this garbage for two seconds?

  • @goethean Authoritarian Conservatives. Read:

The Authoritarians by Bob Altemeyer (free online)

Conservatives Without Conscience - John Dean

  • I'm sure Jesus knew about what a ''minimum wage' is.

  • @Bluedog309 Also there is this thing called the "Spillover effect". Where firms are unable to abide by MW and as a result must fire/lay off workers i order to sustain the firm. Here is a good report of how MW causes unemployment since mises is not good enough for you .ncpa.org/pdfs/st190.pdf

  • @Bluedog309 The mises institute has more often then not been spot o regarding the enlightenment btw. But that is another topic that is not related to this video or texts. I know I'm right and that you are wrong when all you do is dismiss your opponent and just rant away without giving any evidence of anything. Do have anything better to add then "tunnel vision" or claiming that i have not read about chinas "other political factors" which of course is a big claim to make. Back your statements up

  • @Bluedog309 *Sigh* Perhaps you should read the posts more clearly. I am drawing from my experiences and observations around the NYC metro area and see how MW has negative effects on everyone. MW is basically another govt intervention in the private sector limiting the power of individuals, the free market and private job creators. Wages can be compensated by private contracts and agreements. The good intentions of big govt always has unintended consequences.

  • @Bluedog309 Minimum wage laws hurt minorities the most. I don't have any sort of tunnel vision on this issue. I am an ethnic minority and live in NYC. In NYC is where the dangers of MW are most demonstrable. With MW only a minority with specialized skills like myself have any chance of employment. read this page mises(dot)org/daily/2130 . Problem is that MW cannot be abolished just immediately. A whole host of other things need to be abolished.

  • @Bluedog309 Most people think that if minimum wage (MW) laws were then employers would pay far below a living standard which is not true at all. Such an employer would be destroyed by the free market as no one would want to be hired y such a person. Others want to over exaggerate by claiming that Americans would end up with similar wages as the average Chinese peasant. But the truth is 500 million+ Chinese have a minimum wage law imposed on them of about $3 a day. MW laws are not needed.

  • We don't need minimum wage laws. If you go to mises(dot)org and type into the search bar why minimum wage laws are harmful to employment and education then you will learn that this is not a "crazy" idea. Minimum wage laws have the most harmful side effects to those on the margins of society, such as none graduates, teenagers ect.

  • If Jesus really did oppose the minimum wage, FUCK HIM. HE DESERVED TO DIE ON THE CROSS IF WHAT BARTON SAID WAS TRUE. For the record, I think Barton is full of shit.

  • only in the USA do you get these perversions of biblical scripture to support the most insane Repug talking points. It's like listening to the Taliban use the Koran....

  • OMG! Barton please crawl back in your hole with Golem. You are lying so much you're beginning to look like him.

  • Matthew 20:1-16

IT'S A FRICKIN PARABLE DUDE - to explain this:

16 “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”

  • Sorry Barton, our country was founded on the Constitution not the Bible.

  • Can I under my religious convictions claim these Biblical doctrines on taxation to righteously avoid said taxes?

  • @altops Yeah. You could do that. But you would risk prosecution.

  • Revisionist Historian/snake oil salesman. The fact that this guy has a large following is indicative of the decline of the U.S. and the increasing disconnection millions of Americans have with reality.

  • Funny he forgets to mention that part of the Bible that says it's easier for a camel to pass thorugh the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom heaven. What a deluded ingnoramus a person must be to far for this guy.

  • @xexixk

What else can we expect from the evangelical wing nuts but misinformation, disinformation, spins and blatant lies. Apparently they overlooked all the quotes in red which are the words of Jesus. Apparently they have forgotten The Sermon on the Mount. Shame on those who would distort the meaning of Christ's life and death to support Big Business!

  • @onesmartgal Yes indeed he is not only a nut, but thoroughly evil as far as I am concerned.

  • @xexixk

His fast talkin' schpiel reminds me of snake oil peddlers!

  • @onesmartgal He is one of the many versions of Elmer Gantry like hucksters. Give it time and like so many he will probably be caught in his own pay for sex scandal or perhaps like George Rekers he will one day be caught hiring a "baggage handler" from a gay "escort" website.

  • He's hit and miss with these ideas. Matthew 20:1-16 was merely an illustration of a principle that the people were already familiar with. He was using it to make a larger point about how God rewards people. Jesus was not endorsing a particular economic structure.

  • This guy is a complete joke. He gets introduced as a "historian", but he's not! He takes the bible and bends and twists the parables to try and say they pertain to life today. He believes the bible gives advice about taxation, regulating homosexuality, and even immigration! He gets on glen beck and and feeds people ignorant, distorted half truths he has created to support republican agendas on capitol hill. David Barton is a historian the same way creationists are scientists. Don't listen to him

  • This is unspeakably wrong on every level. Shameless.

  • I notice he gives the scripture that supposedly support what he is saying, but he never actually tell you what the scripture says and how it somehow relates to capital gaines taxes. You know why? Because it doesn't. Just because someone claims they are Christian doesn't mean they really are. This man's only interest is separating you from your money and being PAID schill for the GOP. Buyer beware.

  • This guy is a scumbag. Twisting the bible to suit his own political views.

  • The bible is too OP and has too much authority. Evidence: This moron running around saying "The Bible supports what I say!" and is certainly getting support despite his references being completely unrelated to his statements.

  • Income tax is unconstitutional. The IRS is an overgrown leech. The Bible is a terrible codex for government.

    Pshaw.

  • He who shuts his ears to the cries of the poor will be ignored in his own time of need.

    Proverbs 21:13

If you give to the poor, your needs will be supplied! But a curse upon those who close their eyes to poverty.

    Proverbs 28:27

  • Jesus commanded, "Love your neighbor." When asked to define "neighbor," Jesus expanded the traditional meaning of the word--defining our neighbor as anyone who is in need, including social outcasts: "But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed."

    Luke 14:13

  • What is this, I don't even.

  • Fuck your bible and your god, hypocrite.

  • Maybe this guy should read Ephesians 4:28

"Let the stealer steal no more, but rather let him do hard work, doing with his hands what is good work, that he may have something to distribute to someone in need."

A minimum wage is simply a provision of money to cover a person's life needs. Ephesians 4:28 is clearly saying that if by your work, you can provide for the needs of another, then you should.

  • For crying out loud... you guys are retarded and/or ignorant beyond belief (the ones who believes one word in this video)

  • For crying out loud... you guys are retarded and/or ignorant beyond belief

  • Hands down the craziest bunch of nonsense I've ever heard!

  • I love how darkly sinister this conference looks: it's really spookily lit, like a scary trick at a magic show? Is he going to put Michelle Bachman in a box and start thrusting swords through it?

  • Raptor Jesus does not approve

  • Protip: Jesus was (or would've been, had it existed) a socialist :3

  • This is a joke, right?

  • What a tit.

  • "Give ALL to the poor" - Jesus Christ

  • Be very afraid. These people want a Theocracy, not a representative republic or democracy.

  • lol

  • yep this guy is just another christian trying to use the bible so people will do what he say's

  • Comment removed

  • Prov 13: 22: For once, it backs up what he is saying.

    1 Chronicles: Also surprisingly consistent.

Ezekiel 46:18: Dont give your own family other peoples stuff.

Matthew 20: 1-16: Not about minimum wage but rather about pay. Essentially, Someone who works an hour is paid the same as someone who works 5. This is different from an actual limit on how low a pay can be.

Conclusion: This guy is nuts. I am ashamed to see someone using Jesus as a political promoter when its not at all what The Word means

  • @Omega13Shadow Kudos to a member of the sadly vanishing minority of Christians who are able to think critically about their religion.

  • @Zenthik I'm honestly fairly new to it. I was an atheist, but I decided I needed a change in my life. My friend helped me. It's certainly the best decision I have ever made, and I plan on serving a mission in a few years (I'm LDS btw)

And to everyone else: I agree, no one should push a religion on others, its directly contrary to what America was founded on. But, there is no need to hate on those who willingly choose their faith.

  • @Omega13Shadow It is interesting that the the quotations from the Bible that are consistent with his argument are from the Old Testament and not the New Testament. As for his commentary on Matthew 20, it is a "Kingdom" parable and explicitly states that the established order of "compensation" will be overturned. To argue that it is a parable against the minimum wage is preposterous, ahistorical, and possibly fascist.

  • @Omega13Shadow actually the bible backs up NOTHING. it's a book written by ignorant by (today's standards) nomads who had no concept of life sciences.

to rely on such a book by any of today's standards is ignorance. but some how the ignorant rely on it as if it was the answer for everything. and, it isn't, they reinterpret it to make sure it is.

give me a break, i prefer many other texts & references to back up life than the bible. anyone with a level of intelligence should too!

  • Ive actually looked up the passages. Okay, heres a breakdown:

Matthew 25: 14-29: Its about taking what you have and using it. Those who use what they have will gain more, those who don't use it are imbiciles. That really has nothing to do with the CGT

Luke 19: 13-26: same as above. Nothing to do with taxes.

Leviticus 27: 32: Basically, accept whatever is given.

Numbers18: 28-29: Give your best offerings...or, more is better.

Deut 14: 22: Pay money to your churches. NOTHING to do with tax...

  • @Omega13Shadow Just more bullshit lies from the right wing! They take random quotes from the bible and on PURPOSE takes them out of contexts! They're a disgrace to both their religion and their country!

  • @Omega13Shadow THANK YOU. It's fundamentally dishonest that this son of a bitch would cite passages without reading them, and the knuckleheads in the crowd just accept his word for it.

But not one word from this son of a bitch about James's warning, hell, THREAT to the wealthy in James 5: 1-6

  • The bible also says that divorce is wrong and is totally cool with polygamy and slavery, sooooooo... yeah.

Really, the bible is outdated in a lot of respects and to pick and choose and interpret some of the more vague parts as you see fit is just silly.

  • @protogarrett whenever i nedd guidance on how to beat my slave i just look at the bible it is a great place to learn how to rape and beat slave's XD

    Exodus 21:20-21

    Timothy 6:1-2 NLT

  • Only in America. What a fucking joke.

  • Reason #100 why I'm glad to be an atheist.

  • @cmotdibbl3r damned right !

  • did not cite a passage for the minimum wage disagreement.

  • @OIObserver That part got cut off - it was Matthew 20: 1-16

  • That doesn't sound like an argument against minimum wage, it sounds like the vineyard owner overpaid 90% of his staff.

  • @RWWBlog Well... if thats the passage, he is a moron. Clearly, the minimum wage was a denarius per day. He paid others MORE, but paid no one less than the denarius.

  • This man is a fraud.

  • LOL. WHAT?? Show me the exact verses where Jesus "spoke out against the minimum wage." I must've missed that, and I read the Bible quite a bit when I WAS a Christian.

These jackasses will twist the Bible to mean ANYTHING that fits with their ideology! It is NOT a reliable source for economic policy. I mean, hell, the combined state of Israel (including after it spit up into Judah and Israel) was actually pretty small compared to its neighbors.

  • There never WAS much of an 'empire', esp. in the Solomonic sense.

  • An economy that small couldn't POSSIBLY offer us any meaningful advice on 'proper' economic policy anyhow.

  • This is the same clown who made a video - which you can find on RWW's channel - just before the 2010 election informing Christians that they were biblically required to vote on "moral issues" not on "economic issues" and that God would judge them if they gave priority to economics in their voting. Now he decides that economic issues are moral issues.

  • I am confused. The scripture cited regarding the estate tax seems to indicate the estates of sinners go to the righteous. That sounds a lot worse than the current estate tax. Search Biblos for Proverbs 13:22...he must be reading a different Bible.

  • @jlb20 The Ezekiel cite only forbids a "prince" from "taking by oppression" the possessions of "every man" to give to the prince's sons. By contrast, the US estate tax hits the "prince" - Presidents, senators, and reps - and benefits the public. The Proverbs cite would let the govt. seize the entire estates of sinners. Since the Bible tells us that all have sinned and none are righteous, that means that the govt is authorized to tax all estates at 100%. The Chron cite is just irrelevant.

  • I bet this guy is investing in the currency exchange market.

  • Render unto Cesar what is Ceasar - render unto GOD what is GOD's.

Amazing all these scriptures are OLD TESTAMENT which was before Jesus..... These people are idiots. (Minimum wage)

  • Render unto Cesar what is Ceasar - render unto GOD what is GOD's.

Amazing all these scriptures are OLD TESTAMENT which was before Jesus..... These people are idiots.

  • This guy says Jesus preached about minimum wage and then references the old testament???? The only New Testament sources repeat the same parable...PARABLE which is not actually about money.

Supply side Jesus - what a perversion of religion.

  • This is Michelle Bachamnn history teacher. Really! Barton came to Minnesota in 2005 to help Bachmann shape the state’s “history standards.” Bachmann wanted to make sure that references to religion in historical documents were taught in Minnesota’s public schools. Barton came to the Minnesota Senate to give a presentation at Bachmann’s invitation.

  • American Christians are redefining their Demi-god! Jesus hates the poor, disabled & elderly!! LOL! Jesus loves the wealthy & corporations!! LOL!!

...I wonder how many people in this lunatics congregation are nearly starving living paycheck to paycheck yet voting Republican? Religion is truly a cancer on society!!

  • @Viracocha711 They may be starving, but he still wants donations.

  • I love these posts; keep them coming!

  • That's why Romans killed Jesus.
