at first i didn´t understand that part too, when i watched the movie.

but then i´ve read the book and it was clear.

it´s hard to explain, but if you read the book you will understand.

I saw this film and was thrown back, it is a great film but I cant help but think how much more of an impact it would have had on me if I had understood it, im confused....

why does Alexander (grandfather) kill himself in the end??? I have my opinion but Im not sure its correct. and if he was part of the people in that town. how is it he had no idea where it was and they spent all that time looking for it?? can someone please clarify my confusion and then some....?

well see, the grandfather was "at war" with himself, like the old woman asked, if the war was over, and he paused, and said yes. What he meant by this is he was a jew and survived and ripped off the star of David so show that he wasnt a jew and just kinda left Judaism and the girl saw him. (when he was young) and thats why he didnt want to drive that "Zhed" at the beginning, but he heard Trachinbrod so he took him there. I lvoed this movie cuz im from Ukraine and i understood a lot. Lol!
