  • I loved this the other week when you played at the Sale Folk club, is this your own tune? It's so beautiful! I love your music.

  • This is beautiful!!! The orchestration, the tune, the way you sang, absolutely gorgeous!!!

    Congratulations! :)

  • I think you did very well in bringing the song of tuniviel to life. I can almost see her.

  • Mr. Rudd, what were the instruments used in this video? Thank you for your energies!

  • Beautiful. Rare to stumble upon depth these days.

  • I think you've captured the essence of Tolkien's words with that instrumentation. It's just perfect.

  • does anyone know what happened to colin? he disapeared

  • Also Mr. Rudd i hold you in the utmost respect and love your music. well done

  • Furthermore i would like to say that i still wish he had done better

  • Although a little later than the past discussion i would like to add that as a Tolkien fan i agree with mr. rudd to an extent . Although Jackson did not do the works justice he did not ruin it or claim it as his own story. Jackson's movies have increased the fanbase of Tolkien's works. These movies have encouraged others to read. that right there is great. Even better, they are reading one of the greatest works of all time. After reading they now become enlightened and brought into the magic

  • Tolkiens best tale. Everlasting love. Amazing.

  • beautiful. definitely one of my favorite tales from silmarillion.

  • Epic my friend just epic!

  • Mr Rudd, i am a huge fan of tolkien and all his works (and of yours). i do realize that peter jackson has not followed the books exactly when creating the movies but you have to admit, he did one hell of a job.

  • Your music and words are so enchanting. I have been a Tolkiem fan for 35 years and now have found something further to add to my Tolkien world. My focus is collecting all things Tolkien, and my first and formost passion is his stories and the books. I will be at the Festival in Wales as a presenter and am looking forward to listening to your performances. Beren and Luthien is my favourite of Tolkien's stories.

  • Awesome!

Imaginarium of Toliens World - captured.

If u could pass some tabs for guitar, it whould be very cool!

  • Very nice, the guitar following every third line with similar rhythm to the voice could add a really traditional Irish melody to the music. Really well done though, worthy of a Tolkien tale by any standards.

  • I've wandered the wilderness a hundred times and heard tales from the men and women I've met there. Still a tale of such beauty and love I've never heard portrayed with such a sense of wounder.

With Tolkien's words and your voice a great service to the world has been done.

  • @shadehiker3 well said.

  • Yea,Long Live the minstrel and his beautifull songs!!!

  • One of the last true bards on this Earth!

  • Colin, am I right in thinking this is the skyline of trees in betws-y-coed?

  • I, well, love this song. Amazing...Closing my eyes, I can imagine walking beneath the boughs of the trees in Doriath, hearing bards from Menegroth playing on flutes and harps, hidden amongst the leaves and shadows. No but honestly, it's beautiful. Your voice and the music bring this song to life. Is there any way to get your hands on a record you've made (if you've made any)? As moonMoronMadman said, it would be wonderful to listen to your songs somewhere else than in front of my computer.

  • The flute was a very nice touch here. I love it.

  • The Tale of Beren and Lúthien has always been one of my favorite poems and I really love the way you've set it to music here. Thank you!

  • i agree with you, 'fire...'. its so beautiful. truly, it is. if only we could find the song to listen to on a cd or summat. thank you dearly, colin rudd.

It makes it even more magical, finally hearing the song as well as reading the words

    ^_^

  • Colin, I hope you believe me, I love you man... Truthfully.

  • BTW I think the song is a great interpretation, thanks for your hard work.

  • Fantastic. Beren and Tinuviel has always been one of my favorite tales from Silmarillion, along with the Tale of Turin. Turin's tale is more of a tragedy, ofcourse, but none the less amazing for that. either way, truly well done, you're great at bringing Tolkien's songs to life. merely wondering, have you ever made a record or so with your songs? it'd be wonderfulto be able to listen to the songs somewhere else than in front of my computer

  • When you dilute magic the magic is gone RMC1989, there is no point in turning Tolkien's work into a blockbuster as it is no longer Tolkien's work! We're talking subtlety,pace,imagination...art as opposed to mass entertainment, why dilute the message because people cannot feel it......may as well play bingo in a holy place and destroy all meaning... may as well "dumb-down" the whole planet which is exactly what's happening of course!

  • I respect your opinion, but the fact that there are people out there that would love to see it made into a movie warrants anyone that's willing to try. I personally do not agree that the "magic" would be gone. It would merely become something new, and uniquely inspiring. Just as your music is a subjective interpretation of the books, so too are the movies meant to inspire a new vision an interest in his works. It is an artist's right to envision it as he will, whether or not you like it.

  • How refreshing to hear someone articulate precisely what is so wrong with pj's awful movies. If it took those silly movies to introduce you to Tolkien - then all I can ask is, were you living in a cave?

  • maybe we were quite young before the movies?

  • as fantasy films they pass, but as an accurate retelling of Tolkien's most well known epic, they fall far short

  • @colinjohnrudd Do you play professionally, Colin? Love the way you write music!

  • As brilliant as it is, a lot of people find The Silmarillion very difficult to read. What's wrong with sharing even a diluted form of Tolkien's magic with as many people as possible?

  • the problem with making every good story into a film is (in my opinion) that nobody reads anymore. Most people don't buy books if there is a film about the story now. Me and my brother are an example of this. If you come to my place the shelves are filled with books (I do own films, but they are outnumbered by books). If you go to my brother's place there are about 5 books in the whole flat and he hasn't read one of them. I'm not saying that nobody reads any more but it seems to be a dying art.

  • In my case, this is not true. I would not know Tolkien at all, if there was no film of The lord of the rings. For that I am forever thankfull to PJ!

I read very much and I love it, but I also like watching films. I think they are two different kind of Art to tell a story.

And, I must say, these song is very, very beautyfull!

  • I was introduced to Tolkien to by PJ. And for that i am gratefull.

But this storie can not be made in a movie....Then you get a hollywood love story between two milliondollar actors.

  • Well stevenash2300....you say they "need" to be made into a movie!!... why destroy the imaginative dreams of Tolkien with some CGI inspired rubbish which will be adapted for cinemagoers with their popcorn and drinks? And before you say it....it's not elitist to preserve wonder, wonder is precious and subtle..it lives in our imaginations not some money-obsessed directors!!

  • I agree with you SO much.

Steven2300 - why on earth do you want a movie to be made of Beren and Luthien? So that they can be worn out and action-packed to death by hollywood celebrities and dollar-raking cgi? That would truly ruin such a story. Godbless Tolkein.

  • :)

It is hard to find words that describe what I feel

  • I was actually reading this poem today again for the upteenth time.wonderful melody, thank you

  • what happens at 00:56?

  • Thank you very much, Colin. Are these songs available as an album anywhere?

  • dude this is awesome!

  • Jackson pwned

  • verry Celtic! nice done .. thx for Sharing

  • an applause to this man... he deserves it

  • don't ever forget Luthien the beloved, cause from all firstborns, she's really gone...

    sweet sadness...

  • Wonderful!!! You did honor to Tolkien's work. Well done!

  • Znam ten ból... To znaczy też uwielbiam fantastykę, Tolkien jest oczywiście w Panteonie Najlepszych i kocham muzykę irlandzką, o tematyce z moich książek i większość twórczości Enyi. A ja się bałam, że tylko ja tak mam! Dzięki Ci za to, bloomerko, że jesteś na tyle wrażliwa, aby taką twórczość docenić:) Pzdr!

  • A mówiąc w moim języku.

Pochodzę z Polski i nie mówię po angielku (zbyt dobrze) Ale kocham książki i wiersze, które stworzył Tolkien... Ten jest moim ulubionym. Świetna piosenka.

  • I from Poland and i don't speak english (verry well) but i love Tolkien's books and poems... That is my favorite. Great song...

  • Beautiful. One of my favorite poems by Tolkien. Great.

  • Definatly my favorite song by Tolkien. Melianatara is right about picturing Bilbo telling stories. In a way though personally I am much younger then Colin so he is like Bilbo also. Good job Colin

  • Beautiful song!

  • When you sing, I picture Uncle Bilbo telling stories to the younglings. Good Job.

  • I just hope that Jackson leaves The Silmarillion alone. I would DIE if he touched it!

  • Maybe....but I want SOMEONE to touch it. Either the Tale of Tinuviel or The Tale of the Children of Hurin need to be made into a movie imo. They're the best of his works if you ask me and if they could make a movie HALF as good as what he wrote it would be amazing....Idk maybe they could make a trilogy: first movie with Beren and Luthien,

2nd with Turin(tragedy of course), and then the last about Tuor and Earendil to finish it.

  • Master Tolkien would be proud!

  • nice....

  • This was absolutely gorgeous. That is one of my two favorite poems of all time and I love the way you set it to music.

  • Beautiful. The son of Barahir and the daughter of Melian live on between the Halls of Mandos

  • I love it! Wonderful,thanks.

  • its beautiful! How'd you know i wanted to hear that???

  • Here I am listening to it for practically the hundredth time! :D

  • Thank you Collin...the song is very beautiful

  • WOW! That is so beautiful. Thank you. :)

I love those books so much...

  • Makes me want to read the Silmarillion again.

  • Wow, this is amazing! I've always wondered what tune that song would have! LOTR for ever!

  • It is written in the "common tongue" so Tolkien approves!

  • god bless my friend middle earth forever mae govaneen

  • I really like this alot but only if you would pronounce it GlimmerinG.:)

  • Say again ''annielovessean '' - we want '' Colin Rudd's Song's Must Live '' tatoo's. :) I've listened to this song about 10 times this morning already. Hauntingly lovely, spell-binding.

  • Me and my mellyn [that is friends], discovered you over at a website and we adore your Tolkien recordings! You have the perfect voice for the lays of Middle-Earth... what would I have to do to get a high-quality copy of your recordings to save down to my computer? More than anything, I would love to be able to listen to them end on end!

Great work and beautiful... just beautiful music, Mr. Rudd!

  • awsome absoloutly awsome

its a sad story - beren and luthien(Tinuviel)

  • This is really beautiful. I love how used text from the actual lay. It sounds so sad and beautiful, just like the story itself. Thank you for sharing this with us.

  • hey, when i got ur msg i really didnt think this would work but its really beautiful! good job!

  • great job!

  • cheers for this ur a star!! this is a great interpretation!

  • Beautifull.

  • Reading it for about the mmmmppphh, 70th time, and this song takes me right into Doriath, into the First Age. Poignant, beautiful, I am using this to write to, I can '' see '' this tale, as I listen!

  • A sad, joyful song. Tolkien know how to pluck at our heart-strings, and so do you.

  • Beautiful tune :) I'm listening to all your vidz in chronological order by the way.. ;)

    Kris

  • Feckin Great song Col.Sublime whistle playing :)

  • Absolutely beautiful. Thank you a thousand times!

  • Very very very good. Love it.

  • Lovely. Thanks to your interpretation I've decided to learn this song myself.

  • Agreed!

  • A beautiful interpretation of one of Tolkien's most poignant and moving tales.

  • Beautifully done! I'm re-reading Sillmarillion 4th time.
