  • You did it again!!!! Scorpio was also used by one of the underrated old school group Tuff Crew for the joint Open Field Attack.

  • How come in all these posts no one mentioned that David McCallum is the actor from "Man from U.N.C.L.E." and more recent "NCIS" on CBS. I believe "The Edge" was a 45 in 1967 and had a pic sleeve too!

  • gracias por compartir tus conocimientos con nosotros ya se sabe que hay que tener mucha paciencia si quieres ser un buen productor

  • translation --"thanks for sharing your knowledge with us now we know that you have to have a lot of patience to be a good producer"

IT WAS ALL ABOUT '" ROLL - PALACE "

    THE BAY ROAD !!

  • cool video.

  • Murs also sampled the MJ song on Can it Be...

  • To funktuall,

    Here something interesting:

"Happy" by Surface(1987) was actually a REMAKE.

The original song was called "You make Me Happy" released in 1984 by Hi-Tension, a UK jazz funk band. although the Surface version had changed the lyrics a bit (though not much) the music is pretty much the same on both songs.

....so now you know!!! : D

  • I am grateful...oh wise one.

    Do stop by again soon.

  • @funktuall Another track that had an impact on the song

Welcome To The Terrordome by Public Enemy

was Psychedelic Shack By The Temptations.

Scorpio was also a sample on

Mama gave Birth To The Soul Children by Queen Latifah f/De La Soul.

MURS used the I Wanna To Be Where You Are sample

on the song Can It Be, from his MURS For President Album.

  • Remember, David Porter had be a writer/producer with Isaac Hayes of many Sam and Dave hit songs...also "I Wanna Be Where You Are" was written by Leon Ware (I Want You by Marvin Gaye) and Arthur "T-Boy" Ross (Diana's brother)...Marvin has a Interlude cover of it on the "I Want You" album....

If you can find T-Boy's album, you could do a feature on Leon Ware (Musical Massage", T-Boy, and "I Want You"...I have Musical Massage...

  • yo funktuall. u kick ass man. keep doin your thing!

  • yoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo #2 made my day funkual

  • That album you have hanging (on my left) is that "Marvin Gaye - I Want You"?

  • nice..Doom sampled the MJ track too..

  • which? he sung that in one of his tracks but he didn't sample it for that song

  • That darkest light sax sample was also on the Wattstax double LP record, I cant remember who performed it on there.

But right before the sax hits and during the sax theirs some PE vocal samples "freedom is the road seldom traveled by the multitudes" etc..

  • MJ!!!

  • As usual, this is a very good installment. Keep up the good work.

  • Funktuall- For me, the "golden age" of hip hop was the early 90's to the mid 90's. What's your take on today's hip hop? I've stopped listening to hip hop because I can't take the simplistic beats and meaningless rhymes. Am I discounting today's hip hop? Is it a case of "things were always better in my day" attitude? What's your take? Because I'm not going to waste my time listening to Soldier Boy or Lean Like a Cholo...

  • Yea its totally wacked!! Southern slang and Reggaton is wacked out, but thats the same thing they used to say aout Hip hop back in the days remember? Peace out.

  • If you ask me. Start listening to underground hip hop. Underground keeps it real. Look up La Coka Nostra.

  • First one was also sampled by Fatboy Slim for Praise You, but that's common knowledge. ;D

  • MURS also used the last sample on his latest album MURS 4 President, track title: Can It Be..

ur stuff is amazing man. peace and love

    Labi Siffre - My Song

( Kanye West sampled it for his song "I Wonder" )

  • Funktuall......you are crazy (in a good way). You startin with Fat Albert? Do you know how many years since I last saw that cartoon?

  • you are really awesome. i watched this video 3 hours ago at 63 views and it is nearing 1000.

  • wat part of that did grand puba sample i cant realy tell

  • He didn't 'sample' it but he interpolates the melody when he sings, "Could it be I've stayed away too long

Seems mc's be wishing I was gone

Because they wanna be where I are..."

  • funktuall are you gonna be running for president next term? cuz if so you got my vote!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • #9 Heaven & Hell Is On Earth - 20th Century Steel Band - The end of Above the Law's song, PIMP CLINIC........EVERYONE'S GOT TO MAKE A LIVIN'

  • Excellent

  • Thanx for that Camp Lo info! I bought the Luchini track off of Rhapsody, and had no idea where that sample came from!

  • Im gonna blast #7 and get into a car chase... you just made my weekend

  • U know, if you go back and listen to mc lyte's poor georgie, on the chorus there was another vocal sample used in addition to the michael jackson vocal. I'm not for sure, but i think it was a sample of the supremes, using diana ross vocals. Couldn't begin to tell what song it could be from, but her voice is almost unmistakeable.

  • Gwen Stefani sang Heaven & Hell Is On Earth to different lyrics for Hollaback Girl.

  • don't forget biggie in the intro to nasty girl

  • I love the T-Shirt. Reminds me of the Geto Boys and Eazy-E shirts I see the kids wear now.

  • Thanks for number 7

  • no 7 was already sampled by Queen Latifah feat De La Soul - Mama Gave Birth To The Soul Children :)))

  • lol the friends ring tone. my ring tone is deep fried frenz by mf doom. loving the vids man, big ups!

  • Also, the GZA sampled the intro to that David Porter song for "Duel Of The Iron Mic."

  • I feel you on being young and not knowing every song on the planet. I miss the days when I would buy a cassette and that would be my only new music for like 2-3 months. Now there's just way too much music out there...

  • very cool, scorpio break been sampled by everyone

  • Nice to see you back in top form. Nice backdrop. Great acoustics. Give your Wife props for her camera work.

I remember riding my bike to the local Marine Base PX to buy my MJ single of I Wanna Be Where You Are. It was 35 cents.
