  • Thank you very much! When you go to Korea to teach someday, you will surprise your students by telling them you already know how to cook some korean dishes. : )

  • I made this today but I only used one eggplant. It is so delicious and I ate them all with rice & the kimchi paste. I made a picture of them and I am going to send them to my oldest brother to prove that I can cook now ha ha ha... I will try to make some more food you teach people =)

  • havnen't seen you in awhile, funny video. I'll have to try that new dish

    Thanks!!

  • yum.. this looks really good.. I love eggplant.. so I can't wait to try this out!

  • That looks really delicious. I am going to make some this weekend. Wait, I'll be in JejuDo. Any suggestions as to what local dishes I should indulge in?

  • You should try black pork in Jejudo.

  • seafood of all types. they have great octopus dishes (very fresh) like nakji bokkeum (octupus stirfry). the best i tried was there. plus they're famous for their abalone and ppretty much any other seafood dish.

  • What a great video! That looks so yummy!

  • Normally I'm not an eggplant fan, but I've had some 'Asian' eggplant like you have here, MUCH better than the traditional 'Italian' eggplant... I might just try this dish if I can find the eggplant.

  • Your videos make me hungry, as always^^ Thanks again for posting all these recipes and instructions!

  • OH~~ so this is how u make them! lol...i always take them in the restaurent with rice.

    best dish ever....

  • is eggplant and Aubergine the same thing or Aubergine is the western eggplant with the thicker skin?? great dish!

  • im not sure, but i think that aubergine is eggplant for French

  • aubergine really means eggplant in general. but if you go to a grocer, ask for 'chinese eggplant' for these long-lean ones.

  • Love your videos Maangchi and will be making this as soon as I get some eggplants. Why the wig? Halloween? Definitely brightens the vid! =)

  • You might want to warn people that when you crush the garlic the way you did that they need to keep their head away from the knife... you never know what kind of accidents may happen.

  • You amaze me with your natural passion for food, and make all these dishes look great!

I'll have to try this one as well....

keep up the great work.... :)

  • love the wig

  • I used to HATE gaji when I was a kid. Now it's one of my favourite ;) some interesting facts about eggplant (Aubergine). Eggplants are in the same family as tomatoes, potatoes, and chili peppers. and it's a fruit. BUT it's also in the same family as tobacco and YES, eggplants contain nicotine :( but less than tobacco :) If you have arthritis, avoid eggplants as they may worsen the symptoms. Italians call eggplants "melanzane" meaning crazy apple xD and finally eggplants are 95% water. hehe

  • haha I'm happy to learn about all interesting facts about this vegetable. Thank you very much!

  • :( you didn't even read what I wrote... eggplants are fruits, not vegetables

  • oops sorry! I need time to get accustomed to the fact it is fruit!!!

  • yum yum yum!

thanks for another great veggie dish!

    hoo-ya sesame oil!

  • ooh! that looks good! and it's great. I have all of that stuff in my fridge! :D I think I am going to go make it! I made Hobakjuk the other night. It turned out great! :) I added some honey and nutmeg to it. It was so delicious! I was also wondering if you had the recipe for Agujjim?

  • I have a great idea on what you can make a video on next :) you could try gae chigae its really good during the winter reply back please.

  • Looks yummy, am going to try making this for my lunch side dish one day

  • yes, its red and spicy. yes! thanks!

  • Darling Maangchi, How about an EGG... stuff in an eggshell,, colorful and yummy for all the tummy? Waiting.

  • You're so professional when you're cooking food. The way you cut and create dishes makes me want to become a chef as well. Thanks for another wonderful dish that i can try at home

  • did the song sings "dinner in the bathroom"????

if i am hearing it right...

  • haha, It's 'Mirror in the Bathroom' by The English Beat

I posted the title of the song under the recipe on my website.

  • lol.

  • the eggplant is now named as "chinese eggplant"

you can now find it in some western supermarkets.

  • very nice i think this must have been one of the easiest recipes i have scene can't wait to try it.

  • looks yummy!

hi maangchi. i had a question. my friend from college was korean and he used to invite us over to eat korean food. there's this one dish that i like and i was wondering if u knew how to make it. i think it was made with dried cuttlefish and sesame seeds in it. and it was sweet.

  • it is cuttlefish and a sweet spicy marinade.

It is easy and better to have sesame oil Gochujang(red paster pepper) and dried cuttlefish

  • Can I ask where did u get the steamer? It looks so handy!

  • Eggplants are good for the liver. And they're tasty.

I noticed that you didn't season the eggplant before steaming it. My girl friend sprinkles salt and some olive oil on the eggplant before steaming.

  • I grew up in an Asian household and never heard of salting eggplants before cooking them. Honestly, I can't tell the difference when I do it now, but maybe every little thing helps.

  • LOL i love 2:25 Hoo yah sesame oil.

  • It's look delicious and so easy, but i don't like eggplants, maybe i do this to my mum!

    MERCI

  • Oh my god!! my favorite korean dish!! ohhh i might want to try this! thanks maangchi! Nice hair! You look sexy! keep it the whole day!

  • yummy!

  • Hmm. Not sure why I can't post a comment on this. But this looks great, and I love the wig and "The English Beat!"

  • Looks DELICIOUS as usual! Plus, I do love "The English Beat, as well as the wig! nice touch!

  • Maangchi,

This side dish looks almost as delicious as your pink wig. Thanx

  • I didn't know how easy that dish was! I will have to try it out! Thanks!

  • this is one of my fav side dish~!!

  • Thanks for the video, it looks delicious.

  • oh maangchi i love u for this one! i never pictured eggplant to be made in a way like this and it looks great!

  • looks easy , haha i always think her sesame oil is mustard :)

  • Love the hair

  • Thanks for posting another vegan recipe, eggplant! I tried making an eggplant dish the other weekend & some were bitter. Found out there are male & female eggplants. The males (rectangular on the bottom) instead of round, are LESS BITTER from what I read! Now I'll try these long type ones. Happy Halloween! You're definitely a treat!

  • oh, interesting! male and female eggplants? lol

    I should look it up.

  • does this mean that eggplants can mate? =\

  • eggplant plants have flowers, so they can reproduce with the spores. not like people >.>;; lol

  • lol, funny!

  • ROFLL

    thats funny..

    but i doubt it lol

  • male and female flowers
